Yeah the logistics seem hard. Mithril how did you get there mate?

mentioned this to my wife - who didnt give the expected sharp look. She said that there is a fast train from madrid for sure. Even said she could check train timetables for me even. Fair play to Mrs BB :)

Will see what she comes up with.....

PS savage mileage oisin. Iron legs.

might be easier to get by the missus alright ;) weather can be a bit on the hot side I hear
    Barcelona: Average temperature February / March: 9'C / 13'C
    Sevilla: Average temperature February / March: 18'C / 21'C

Oisin: I think it sells out around February. Aer Lingus flies directly to Barcelona (pretty cheap). Ryanair flies to Reus (about 60 minutes away by train). There are other direct flight options too. Fantastic marathon.

Hmm just checked and while the difference isnt so stark in wiki - it does indicate that the average highs in barcelona are lower than seville. And it would give more time to prepare and could fly direct [rubs chin]

might be on for that.....any chance of forwarding a link to your report if you have it handy?

    thanks a mil

They're just the first results returned by Google. It did snow the day we flew out! Here's my race report (more about me than the actual race, I'm afraid!). They also hand out bottles of Powerade during the race (which was a big bonus for me).

Ryanair flight to Madrid and then fast train down to Seville. Train is enjoyable but cost more than the flight.
I think flights to Faro or Malaga plus bus might be a cheaper alternative.
Its pretty chilly early in the morning in Seville and the majority of the race will be in ideal conditions. Then you have a sunny, warm afternoon to bask in and explore the numerous historical sites.

One other thing -bring your own food for the night before unless you plan to carbo-load on pork.

    cheers krusty

had a look at the reviews on marathonguide.com. A few years back it was 22-24 C after 3 h, but that might have been a freak day. Does look like a good, well organised race though. Thanks for link to report too.

Yeah thanks mithril and krusty for the info. BB The Lower temp and more direct root sways me towards barca but extra month and flatter course in seville. Honestly im easy:D.

7 Miles this morning at 8.40 in the gym.
woke up after a kip and felt great so headed back down the gym. felt fantastic after 3 rest days so decided to try a 5k timetrial. after a 2k warmup i started. my 5k pb is 19.33 from march so i decided to try for 15.1kmh/3.58 pace. i reckoned i might struggle to hold this pace for the whole 5k but id give it a go. 1k down no probs, 2k no probs, it was at 3k i realised i war very comforable. the pace went up and up and up till 5k was us. finishing speed was 18kph and time war 19.29.
cant get my head around that, sub 19 soon hopefully.

the breakfast run the day before the marathon is very enjoyable. The route winds its way from the race expo / race start, up the hills into the Olympic Stadium. It's quite hilly, so mighn't suit Oisin ;), but at 4k, is a perfect little trot the day before the race.

No. It's a medium-tough race. I was pulling your leg. You can't really do these races in standard running shoes, particularly in winter. Might be better to start with some easier races (like the winter league) or at the very least to a 'recce, so you know what lies ahead of you.

Been a strange week for me. 36 miles with about 10 under current 5k pb pace at ~6.10 including my first sub 20 treadmill run of 19.29.
Rounded the week of today with a 10 mile easy run.
    8.20
    8.12
    8.02
    7.58
    7.56
    8.06
    7.50
    7.47
    7.45
    7.33
    1h19m34s
Average pace 7.57. Felt very easy.

Good week oisin - interested to see the effect of the faster running on your race times. Are you targeting any shorter races over the winter?

Im thinking of doing the rathfarnham 5k this month, that one around dublin on the bank holiday weekend ;), then a 10k in november and hopefully the half in waterford in december (maybe the aware 10k and jingle bells as well)

Yeah ill deffo do a couple mate. Given the right course i can deffo lower 5k pb(19.33 in april) and 10k pb (41.55 last september). The 5k time was off the back of a decent marathon programme when i set my 3.13 pb in april but did no speed work. The 10k was in blessington last year with a big incline near the end. Would be interesting to see alright.
