Legs have no soreness in them this morning and no fatigue. Bodes well for the double down in longford.

Well done Oisin. Great to be able to do that in training. You could launch straight into an ultra no bother, if you wanted. You've really clicked into another gear, as far as endurance is concerned.

    Yeah thanks bud.
I feel comfortable at that pace. I have the training in me for 3.10. Its just logistics now. Ive been planning for a while to branch out into the ultras and multiday events. I would feel comfortable pacing 3.30 to be honest. Thats 6 times ive gone under it this year and my recovery is getting faster.

    3h24m42s in an 7.48 average.

Seriously? Why would you do that? I can understand not taking gels or sports drink but i'd be interested to hear your thinking behind why you dont take on any water. It's impressive that you can repeatedly knock this kind of run out in training.

That's great training for an Ultra but if your immediate focus is a fast marathon might be worthwhile considering running the final third of the run at PMP?

The reason i started doing the long runs without water was that i hate hydration belts and also stopping for water. I noticed that the water i was taking on in marathons gave me a great boost. I think this training technique enabled me to finish blackpool and edinburgh marathons in a strong way . Both were very very hot. The 26.2 i did in that run was meant to be a 20 but i felt good after 20 so i continued. This sort of training would not suit alot of people but seems to suit me.

My main goal for the year was to run as many marathons as i could. I had time goals of sub 3.30 and sub 3.15. The aim was to try and pick up these time goals while running all these marathons. 3.30(3.24)i got in january and 3.15(3.13) in april so i went for 3.10 in edinburgh and missed it because of the heat. Im coming into a busy part of the year for races and doing alot of miles so ive decided to not go for anymord time goals. Maybe in the new year things will be different:D

No water at all for a 26 mile run is fairly unusual. You must take a good amount on board before the run.
I don't know what your run route is but could you not place a few bottles of water on it before the run? Easier if it is a loop you are running and a bit more work I know, but I have never heard of no water marathons being good for you.

And if you are finished with goals for the year you could just enter the Dingle 50 for a taste of the ultras. Looks like you have the training done for it.

Yep, would be good to see you at the start line Oisin. Would be the bogtrotter line up all over again. I could use the same photo of us all. lol.

Whatever about the ins and outs of your hydration regime, your results are very impressive, keep it up man.

I was going to do Dingle but cant get the time off work. Used it all for races at the start of the year. Yes i drink massive amounts of water before running long runs without water, probably should have stated that earlier:D
I find i dont need water for anything upto 20 and after that its just mind over matter.

7 miles this morning on a treadmill in the gym. So boring but wanted to get in the sauna and the hydrotherapy pool so i just did it.

Dingle is on a Saturday morning. You could drive down on the Friday evening.
The 5:05 train gets into Tralee at 9pm. I'm sure you could thumb a lift to Dingle from there. Wear your Arnotts Dublin jersey and you are guaranteed a lift:D

I'm the same as you. I never bring water with me, any LSR I do is water and fuel free. I don't feel the need for it, I can count on one hand how many times I've felt dehydrated in training.

I wouldn't bring water either but I would bring money with me and make sure I pass a few shops. That way I can get the water if I need it.
On a twenty mile plus run I will need water. I might get to 18 plus without but after that I will need it.

Sorry to hear about the food problem, hope its better now. Have you decided what the story is for longford? PB attempt or pacing the 4 h? are you still doing one the day before?

Yeah doing a marathon on the friday now and then the main one on the Sunday. Not quite racing but a whole different challange. All the miles im doing at the moment are slow enough so its handy enough.

    5 miles today
    8.40
    8.20
    7.54
    6.59
    6.49
I like to do a couple of quick enough miles at the end of at least one session at the moment. Reminds me that legs are for running at high speed sometimes.

Ill start winding it down a bit from now. 5 miles tomorrow and the next day and maybe 10 friday and saturday then maybe 5 tues and wed.

Yeah spot on what myself and tom were looking for. We set out looking for 3.49 and got 3.48.52
Didnt bring anywhere near enough fluid with me and got dehydrated and started cramping badly near the end. Wasnt enough to stop me and to be honest it was my own fault. Im going to stop and have a bath at every water station on Sunday:D
