    Yeah, by posting this in the PS3 forum it sounds like you know what you want and are just looking for purchase validation.

    If not, I'd recommend the 360 over the PS3.

    You should start a "Liverpool or United?" thread in the soccer forum, and follow it up with a "Dublin or Elsewhere?" thread in AH. You'll get the same insights ;)

    'Real' gaming? You mean 'slightly superior visual quality' gaming. Not worth the hassle.

    I've got both myself.

    Both can have up to 250gb hard drive. The PS3 has either a 120GB or 250GB but I'm led to believe that they're bringing out a 350GB console.

    I've got a 60GB Xbox and a 250GB slim PS3. I'm never gonna fill the 250GB. Not in this lifetime anyway.

    Both consoles are brilliant but if most of your mates have a PS3 then get a PS3 or vice versa.

    Both consoles have their own exclusive titles but the majority of games released are released for both Xbox 360 and PS3.

    Both are able to run at 1080p if you're into your technical shtuff.

    PS3 can play Blu-ray's whereas the Xbox can't. But that's not really a big deal. It's just a nice bonus.

    Xbox is cheaper than PS3 at the moment. Both have slim/quiet models out now so there's no real difference there in size or hard drive storage.

    I personally have no preference over either console. Both have great exclusive titles on them but that's about the only thing different really.

    Online gaming on both is solid. I suppose the only downside is that you have to pay for either a three month or year long membership for Xbox Live to play online but it's a very good service for the money you're paying.

    PS3 has free online play.

    If you're really getting down to the nitty gritty stuff then I suppose it comes down to controllers.

    Personally the Xbox controller for me is better. Feels a lot more comfortable in my hands.

    I had my Xbox first before I got my PS3 and it took a little bit of getting used to the new controller but you'll get a feel for it and there is always the option of buying unofficial controllers which are a lot more comfortable than the official one.

    And that's about it really. Some people will have you believe that graphics are better on the PS3 or vice versa but to be honest, I've not noticed any difference at all. They're both pretty much the same. They do the exact same thing but it'd be better to go with what the majority of your mates have.

    hastle? buy a gpu. put gpu in computer. thats what you consider hastle? you arent the brightest are you???

    Anyway, yeah real gaming, vastly superior visual quality, much more fluid and dynamic controls, better online community (mods etc)

    If you want online gaming, whatever your friends have.

    No intention of online gaming. Pick up each controller and see which one fits.

    Maybe I see it as a waste of time and money? I'd rather get an xbox for modern games and spend my hard earned cash on 'real' gaming items like JAMMA boards for my arcade cabinet. I'm not a graphics whore who needs to **** off over the latest high res textures running at a nauseatingly high FPS rate.

    Visual quality does not make a game. I find I get much more dynamic control out of a seimitsu arcade stick than a keyboard and mouse.

    What 'real gaming is' is completely down to an indivudual's perception of gaming. In other words, you're attempting to be a PC snob and talking out your arse.

    Have a look at each consoles exclusives and have a feel of each controller. They are very similar when it comes down to it. I would lean towards the ps3 tho

    jesus i hate these threads its like how long is a ball of twine?????

    buy a deck of cards if you wanna save us a headache with a thread like this lol..

    i recommend xbox 360 just as its my favourite but everyone to there own.

    just buy both though for the exclusives, and buy any multi platforms on the xbox as ps3 seem to get the bum deal with those:)

    FFS what does a ps3 v xbox thread have to do with pc gaming? get over yourself

    These types of threads should not be allowed. Both are great consoles. It all depends on what exclusives and controllers you prefer. What console do your friends have? (so you can swop games with them).

    In any case, a "PS3 or Xbox" thread should be free of PC snobs banging their drums -- make your own damn thread. Nobody asked about PCs.

    Using the words "real gaming" is ignorant and purely inflammatory and should be warned immediately. Boards is a tolerant, reasonable (and awesome) community, and it's imperative we outlaw that sort of douchebag snobbery in here, p1ssing everyone off.

    I know i've left out your favourite franchise, but this is from my PoV, the main reasons to buy one over the other.

    PS3

    *Better media player than the 360 (allows playing of HD mpgs, allows you to copy videos/music onto your hard-drive easily)
    *Blu-Ray player
    *I hate gaming online but free online gaming
    *Move coming out this fall (that new Star Wars game)

    * 3D Dot Game Heroes
    * Demon's Souls
    * God of War 1-2-3
    * Gran Turismo 5/HD
    * Heavy Rain
    * Infamous/2
    * Killzone series
    * The Last Guardian (and probably a HD remake of ICO and SotC somewhere down the line)
    * LittleBigPlanet/2
    * Metal Gear Online/4
    * MotorStorm franchise
    * Ratchet & Clank franchise
    * Resistance franchise
    * Siren: Blood Curse (terrifying survival horror DLC)
    * Uncharted 1/2/whenever they bring out 3

    ================================

    Xbox 360

    *Excellent version of multiplatform games (eg Red Dead Redemption)
    *Allows installing on your hard-drive <- shorter load times, less pop-ins etc
    *XBLA regularly updated with some great games (that I want to play)
    *Natal coming out this fall (Dance Central)

    * Alan Wake
    * Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
    * Castlevania: Harmony of Despair DLC
    * Crackdown/2
    * Dead or Alive series
    * Dead Rising
    * Fable II/III
    * Forza Motorsport series
    * Gears of War series
    * HALO Franchise
    * Mass Effect/2***
    * Limbo (DLC)
    * Lost Odyssey
    * Shadow Complex DLC

    There are many more but i think this list doesn't include games that came out on PC or was later ported to PS3 (Dead Space, ***Mass Effect 2). But there ya go

    Anyway, almost all of the heavy-hitters (Modern Warfare 2, Rock Band/Guitar Hero, Batman etc) are all multiplatform! So whatever console you buy, you'll be spoilt for games!

    I would implore you to watch Technobuffalo's "Console Wars" videos which pits the Xbox360 against the PS3 in every detail. There are 12 videos and they are superbly researched, well written, unbiased and with a good sense of humor all thanks to the excellent Lasse Pulkkinen. Very entertaining. In fact, everyone should watch them. Here's Round 1:

    UnholyGregor infracted for insulting other member.

    These threads always descend into fanboy territory, with neither side giving way.
    Please keep it civil or I will lock it.

    Keep it on topic too (no PC talk).

    My preference is 360 simply because of the social aspect. All my friends are on there and even if we're playing different games, we can all be in the same party chat, which is handy.

    The PS3 is a good console and has some great exclusives. Uncharted 2 was my favourite game from last year, but generally multi platform games play better on 360, and thats what I mostly play.

    Pretty much this. I bought a PS3 for the excusives and it didn't disappoint. Uncharted 2 + Heavy Rain FTW. But that's all I use it for. I get all my xbox games for free so I generally use that more. Oh and I don't play online.

    Agreed! (although I don't get any games for free, ya lucky sod! -- unless a mate has finished playing his copy :pac:); i bought the PS3 when those heavy hitter exclusives came out - God of War III, Heavy Rain, GoW Collection, 3D Dot Game Heroes (and soon to get uncharted 2) .......they've all been excellent and really justifying the purchase, along with Blu-Ray support.

    Besides exclusive games, I only use the PS3 for watching films; it's an excellent media hub, so easy to copy over and sort your films and music.

    Hilarious, one of my mates bought a 360, and i have a free month's XBL card from when my 360 Red Ringed, offered it to him, and he politely declined :pac: but the ability to swop games with your mates it huge!

    I also prefer the XMB (cross media bar) to 360's new Xbox Experience but that's a matter of preference.

    For anyone buying a new 360 now, sound isn't really an issue with the new SKUs.
