it's not a horrible attitude. tell it to that guy's family. http://www.rte.ie/player/#v=1072327 1:15 minutes in.

i got mugged when i was very young by one dangerous ****er. i got over it, i learned a lesson, i'm still here today. i don't think 'oh why didn't someone help me?' if they did, they'd have been a marked man.

Yes it is to apply that to every situation without question. Whatever keeps you safe.

Slightly off topic but is it true that the murder rate tripled in the year after we got rid of capital punishment in this country? (1990 iirc)

Never heard of that myself. Anyway, a capital option does absolutely nothing to reduce the murder rate in a jurisdiction. The states with the death penalty in America generally have a murder rate that's equal, if not higher, than states that opt for life without parole. Indeed, there's evidence to suggest that it can actually lead to an increase in the number of killings per incident, because those who may have intended to target only one individual, know they face the death penalty if caught, and feel they have nothing to lose by killing any potential witnesses too.

The more I think of it, Davit Curren has all the hallmarks of a serial killer, I honestly don't think he should see the light of day again.

Yet some on here think we would be better served analysing what went wrong for this poor chap - social deprivation, no outlets for him, not held enough as a child.

The convicted man, wasn't even involved in the altercation, yet travelled quite a distance, armed himself with a lethal weapon and murdered two men, over what appeared to be just some Argie-Bargie outside a take-away at 7pm on a Saturday evening.

He was clear, purposefull and precise, he assassinated the two guys, there was no wounding, straight stabbing into their brains. Chilling.

Amazing that you need a licence to drive or have a TV but anyone is allowed to breed these feral brats. All satellite telly and Dutch Gold but of course society is to blame as always

Throwing away the keys for good should make scumbags think twice of carrying out such atrocities.

    you're assuming he thought.

The bottom line is that little scumbag will spend the next 10 years behind bars costing us(taxpayers) a fortune...he will probabally get out recieve SW have a scatter of children and get a free house, there is a very strong case for the death pen when you look at (1) the crime (2)cost of keeping him in prison (3) future cost of maintaining the scumbag ....he is no benifit to the world

The Death penalty would probably cost more than his combined life time locked up with legal fees etc unless its carried out Chinese style.

Kevin Myers: 'It is obscene that these two teenage she-thugs are free'

HERE we go again: two good men are dead and two of the participants in the events of the night that brought Mariusz Szwajkos and Pawel Kalite to their terrible end in Drimnagh two years ago have gone free.
Those culprits are both teenage girls. Subtract their contribution to that terrible evening and our two Polish visitors might be alive and well, at home with their loved ones. Despite garda wishes on this matter, the two girls -- who could at least have been charged with common assault -- have been allowed to go free. And the message to teenage she-thugs elsewhere must therefore be that different rules apply to them.

    How can this be true?

They instigate the horrific terrorism of an innocent man which ultimately leads to his death and they just walk free??

    Repugnant

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 685 ✭✭✭Carlos_Ray

Filthy dirty scum. The government should introduce "late abortions" for the filth that killed these two men ( and I include those scanger girls that got away with murder simply because they are female). That would satisfy the anti death penalty brigade. We'll just call it late abortion.

Kevin Myers is totally correct. Where are all the feminists when murderous women get way with things like this??? Are they campaigning for them to be treated the same as their male counterparts?? Of course not, they're complaining about a crisp advert. imbeciles.

As for the sentences, they should be free for their 21st Birthday celebrations knowing our joke of a legal system.

Imagine if even 10% of the public outcry over the evil headshops was directed at this. They'd be locked up by night and rightly so. People need to get their priorities straight. Where the hell is public outcry over these two thugs walking free? Probably more dangerous to the public's health than any smoke product.

I wish Joe Duffy would dedicate a whole show to these two girls getting off scot free.

'Where were the feminists when this was going on last week'? Well, I was here posting that I hoped the girls that started the mess got something too. Where were all of the people that were complaining about the feminists? Did they do anything? Did Kevin Myers? Or is it up to us superhero feminists to fix everything.

    Well according to Nationmaster:http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_pri_fem-crime-prisoners-female
only 4.4% of the toatal prisoners in the world are female. It just seems to be the norm that women get away with things that Men just wouldn't,and even if they are found guilty the punishment is much less severe.

Ok feminist theory aside, how the hell have these 2 not been arrested for assault at the very least?

Didnt one of them hit him with a bottle, surely thats assault with a weapon???

    There was witnesses FFS.

Well done Kevin Myers. He's 100% right on this subject. The hypocrisy of some of these overfed State-kept wasters is breathtaking sometimes.

The Gardaí wanted to prosecute these c#@ts but the DPP in their infinite wisdom decided against. They would have been prosecuted had they been young boys imo. You may have had 4 people being lumped into the joint enterprise murder charge instead of the 2 who were, it actually makes far more sense it should have been 4 rather than 2.

They must not be let get away with the role they played in fuelling the murderous scenario.Too often is such criminal behavior ignored. This matter must be revisited.Anti social behaviour is a pastime with many of these mindless,directionless,soon-to-become state assisted breeders of the next generation of mouthy, mindless, aggressive dope headed wasters, unless we have a bad old fashioned, social cleansing war scenario. If the law or the state can't fix so be it.Let there be wipe out!:(

Unfortunately Irish law still considers women to be 15th century maidens. You merely have to look at the sex crime law in which women cannot be prosecuted for rape or for underage sex.

normally i cant stand myers but this time he is completely 100% right....women get away with criminal acts why because they are women

Fore further evidence that women get away with stuff men wouldnt, look at the story yesterday in the Indo of the Roma mother who beat her 3 year old to death, and is looking at a suspended sentence??
Mr Vaughan Buckley, who asked that his client be given a suspended sentence, said she accepted that she "flipped" on the night of the attack but she hadn't planned to do so and she didn't want to kill her child.

    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/courts/girl-3-died-in-hospital-after-mother-flipped-and-beat-her-2177901.html

Wether she gets it or not, could you imagine a man getting a suspended sentence for beating a kid to death? There wouldnt even be a mention of it. Equality me arse.
