You know that there's either a problem with your team, or with the Gym Leader, when you only beat Pryce by PP burning his Dewgong...

You burned his Dewgong's PP? Sicko!
There is a USB device for backing up the save specifically for HG/SS (you put the cart into it) but it ain't cheap. Haven't found a european dealer yet (although in all honesty I haven't actually looked). <snip>

Alternatively you can crack the casing of the game open and solder a wire to one of the pins, then use the standard backup methods. Something to do with the IR emitter and how it's accessed means that they've moved the save address or something like that.

The same can be said for other series with toy spin offs marked at the male 10-15 year old market, Yu-gi-oh, Bayblade, or that Bakugan(is that what it's called?). Only thing is Pokemon has a wider audience as a lot of fans (read posters here) grew up with the series. In Japan they also target older players, 151 T-shirt anyone?

Spending two hours running around the Ice Path in HG - and then noticing that they didn't put Sneasel back in there like they did in Crystal...

For days I've been wondering why my Geodude wouldn't evolve, and then it hit me... "Maybe he's in that slim 8% of Geodude that are holding Everstones when they're caught."
I checked, and wouldn't you know it... He is and all. Bloody hell, level 30 Geodude, soon t be level 31 Gravler.
Might have a Golem by the end of the night. :D

Is he actually shiny? Either way, good choice! Just keep him away from fire.

Woops, he's not actually shiny, but he is brand spanking new! :pac:

I've no idea where to ask this but here I go regardless:

Anyone have any idea as to where one could pick up legitimate
copies of the generation III games for GBA? Obviously, I wanna
    upload'em to my D/P/Pt + HG/SS or any auld hack would've done.
On the subject of which, even the most reputable of online retailers
are dealing in'em, completely unintentional but still, how the hell
d'you get your hands on a proper copy of this game?

I found'em on gumtree a few months ago, the whole of generation III for
fifty quid and I thought "ah I'll have a bitta that", so I emailed the guy
and just when he was a fine hair away from floating off with me fifty,
he turns around and offers me the Chaos Black version. Busted.
Then goes on to spend a further few emails trying to convince me that,
in my spite of my protestations and the knowledge
that it is indeed a hack (and not even a good one), he insists it's a real game, it was only released in America and that I would know of it, if only I was a real fan.
It reminded me of one of those kids who swear on their mother's life that Bill's secret garden can be accessed and then, will accuse you of
ignorance when anyone with the web can suss it.

Turns out, they were all hacks. Fo'Shame.

Jumbletown.ie - two weeks ago someone was giving away Fire Red (which is sort of gen III) and Emerald for nothing, and they looked legit (they gave away a GBA and a tonne of other games too) and it's not the first time I've seen that happen.

Ebay is reliable enough if you don't try to get the lowest price. Just look at the other auctions the seller has going, you'll get a feel for whether it's a legit product or not, then ask for close-up in-focus pictures of the front, back and up-the-skirt of the cartridge, you'll be able to see if it's got a trigram screw, the right sticker and a nintendo-branded board on it. Now if the guy sells you a fake you can report him to Ebay, get your money back off pay pal and move on because what you get will not match the photos if he sends you a hack. Legit sellers have no problem sending you photos (other than having ****ty cameras :)). Fire Red and Leaf Green are easier to get legits of than the Gen III games though, cause you just buy them with the ninty GBA wireless adaptor...

Ask on Wiffy.ie - it's a small community but there're a lot of ninty heads on it with big collections and empty pockets that might need the money :)

Read the Pokemon Championship thread on this page, look for someone who says they can't afford to go. Offer to pay their fair for a copy of sapphire :)

BTW it is possible to Pal Park using non-retail cartridges (which, as the owner of the retail versions of those cartridges I think I'm legally if not morally allowed to do, for scientific purposes only of course) but it's a pain in the arse... Not hack carts though (unless you know exactly what sort of memory and save type it's using and where it's located), flash carts. But winners don't use drugs or flashcarts!

I'll have to just nod with you on that. I don't drink, I find it funny to made loads of noise when there's someone in the house with a hangover :pac:

Barry Pah!!!! Its all about Lyons!!! But there is only one be all and end all hangover cure and thats ****in! sweat it out!!! :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Not sure what's behind the *s - when you're as old and out of shape as me, everything makes you sweat, * or no * - but I'm a big fan of the Fraggle Rock cure.
Edit : I got the lyrics wrong. They don't mention riding once! Makes sense, now I think about it. It must have been a dream. Come to think of it, there's no way a doozer would have done that to a gorg before the watershed.
So I edited out all the needless details about using endorphin-releasing physical activity to manage hangover aches and pains.

So does anyone besides me play the Harvest Moon series? Thinking about getting the new one 'Sunshine Island'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

    Love 'em!
Played the old snes one and the first one that came out on Gamecube - mindnumbingly boring and yet incredibly compelling - the drive to make your crops as good as they could be just kept me coming back and the roughly 20 minutes of gameplay required to finish a day in-game was just right for a short blast before I left for work in the morning. Tried the DS one, but the dreadful attempt to cobble together a plot involving witches and sprites and god knows what other ****e destroyed it for me - a 5 minute press-A press-A press-A cutscene at the start that couldn't be skipped set the miserable tone.

Ever try Rune Factory - it's a dungeon-crawl Harvest Moon (it's actually made by the same people and subtitled "a fantasy Harvest Moon" I think) where you can capture creatures and make them work on your farm to free you up to kill more stuff... again, somehow not as good as Harvest Moon, possibly because it freed you from some of the drudgery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭SamIAmNot

Yeah, I've played them. Not as good as Harvest Moon tho! I really like em. Just not sure whether or not to get the new one from EBay.
