Yeah well the price for the 3DS is €270 in Gamestop. They said that they will have a trade in deal for your old console but they haven't got the details for it yet, but they are taking pre-orders on it.

I'm definitely going to get one! Maybe not on release but at some stage :P the only thing that bothers me is the region locking. Theres a lot of great US and Japanese exclusive games on the DS but not so much for Europe :( so I'm probably going to import a foreign one then buy a cheap one here a few years down the line

I'm still clinging to my lite, using the bottom screen to play the GBA games I still have (damn top screen and its LSD effects). I use my little brothers DSi for DS games. I dunno if I'd get the 3DS, I'm really not gone on the whole 3D thing. Hell, I haven't even gone to see a 3D film yet.

Yeah but there is a few nice changes with the 3DS, like a universal friend code and that pass by thing where if you pass by another 3DS it will automatically trade information for all your games! Not just the one you have in! Plus some of the launch games look wicked!

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

I'm hoping that at launch there's an application that uses the two ext. facing cameras to generate a 3d image on the screen so you can view the whole world in 3D...

Actually, given that the porn industry has inexplicably given 3D a miss even though the two were tailor made for eachother, maybe the 3DS is the break that the amateur scene has been waiting for?

eh dunno about that but I do know it can take 3D photos....

So my local HMV has revealed their prices and deals for the 3DS. Released on 25th of March for €259.99, pre-book with them before 19 March and you can get extra on trade in offers. DS lites usually gets €50 they will get €75 before the 19th. DSi gets €71 or before 19th €96 and DSi XL gets €91 or before 19th €116.

Seriously!? I paid €60 for mine. I'll actually make €15!

    Hmm...

    1. Buy a cheap used ds lite for about €50 online
    2. Trade it into hmv for €75
    3. ???
    4. Profit!

However for those of us wanting a DS lite, HMV will end up with a mountain of them and thus might have to sell them off cheap. Win-win situations all round!

So here is a link to details on the Argos promotion of the 3DS

Did anyone else get the email link to the 3DS Sneak Peak Events (UK only)? If you are planning on going to the one in London, drop me a line in advance and book a bed :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Got the invite mail from Ninty but have no plans to take it up. Maybe it's the expense, maybe it's the timing, maybe it's not wanting to explain to the wife that some girl off the internet said I could drop her a line and book a bed... ;)

Andy! Chris! Save me a seat on the bus to Sexist Hell!

Just back from the demo of the 3DS and thought I'd post up some notes if anyone is interested:

    3DS Notes

    Battery Life:
    3-5 hours with 3D
    Approximately 15 hours 2D

Littler than a DSi, roughly a little more than a DS lite

3D slider feels a little small, but locks nicely into place

    SD slot

Headphone slot in the center of the bottom lid
Charm slot moved to the bottom lid on the extreme right

R and L buttons are a little smaller than the DSi

Volume control is a slider in the same place as a DSi

The top screen is noticeably wider, the bottom screen looks out of place when you look at the two together

The Start, Select and Home buttons need a firm press to work

The Home menu looks a little like the DSi menu, if the 3D is on and icons are selected they have a 3D animation on the top screen

There is a little 3D LED on the top screen under the right speaker, even when the 3D is turned off this light is on, it's unknown if this can be turned off

The thumb stick feels very natural, I hope it works with the DS games

The 3DS has a wireless switch located on the right edge of the bottom lid. Flick the switch and an orange light comes on, flick it again to turn off the light and wireless. Very useful for Pokemon trades

The buttons seem to have a gloss feel to them, while the shell on the bottom lid feels a little matte.

Even though the event is booked out, not all the attendees show up. If anyone happens to be in London tomorrow, there is a chance they could get in without a ticket...

Oh yeah, it's fudging AMAZING, but will drive your eyes mad after a while. Ocarina of Time was the one demo I HAD to play and that is EPIC in 3D. I nearly wanted to chop Deku Plants with the stylus. Link has never looked so droolish :)

Oh I'm a bad girl for double posting, but I've just found out on the Ninty website that the 3DS tour is going to *drum roll* Dubland on March 18th-20th. Doesn't say where, my guess it may be the RDS during the Mind, Body and Spirit event, maybe?

Err... it says it's on in the Ilac Center? Though I'm damned if I know why (other than pedestrian footfall maybe...)

They have a Facebook page for the Dublin Event, not too sure if you have to RSVP to it, but it can't be a bad thing to do Facebook ahoy

Long time no post in here but I still lurk a bit. Anyway, trying to figure out - how many series have they released on DVD?

What region can your DVD player play and what languages can you understand? In France you can get the up to Galactic Battles series (2 behind the B/W series, I think) and those are readily available. I was in France recently and found Pokémon DVDs up to the Arceus movie in every DVD/Music shop

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,320 ✭✭✭Teferi

I use a Mac so any region is grand. I cannot speak any language fluently other than English. I'd know enough French to get my way around France and have a conversation with someone in it but wouldn't have a clue about what was being said on a dvd I don't think.

So to give fair warning this rant is totally unrelated to Pokémon.

I've a serious problem with Nintendo lately and the way that only the real kiddie games are being released over here in Ireland, where as in America, and sometimes the UK, they get titles like Devil Survivor Overclocked and we get Club Penguin or Monster High: Ghoul Spirit.

But to make matters worse when a game they claimed was being released today never arrived into ANY of my local shops I have to say I was more than a little ticked off. One shop even have no record of it on any of their systems!

The game in question I know is not altogether extremely popular but it still annoys me that Nintendo go and let down their fans like this. I now have to go and order my game from somewhere like Play Asia or Amazon and make sure its compatible with my region locked 3DS, another altogether stupid move by Nintendo.

Can someone explain to me the value of region locking a console and making us wait to play their games when all they have to do is shut up and take our money. If we want to import a game from America or Japan to play let us!

Also for anyone thinking of buying a Nintendo 3DS XL it does not come with a cradle or charger in Europe, which means you will have to buy them separate and brings the total cost of purchase up to somewhere around €245 not to mention any accessories like; carry case, game cases and maybe the circle pad pro that you may want/have to buy further down the line for some games that are reported to be in need of it i.e the supposedly upcoming Monster Hunter game for the 3DS .

Might be more at home in the Nintendo forum... I take it this is about Spirit Camera rather than Harvest Moon?

Is it nintendo or is it the shops? The retailers decide what they're going to stock and what's going to be available to order in regional outlets, and neither of those games have Mario, Pokemon or "Beach carnival sports puppies" to put on the cover so it's unlikely that either will be that prevalent in most major outlets - there's a recession on, why take a punt on something that you'll end up putting in the bargain bin in 3 weeks?

Can you order it off Amazon?
If Yes then it's being distributed to European retailers. But they're not biting.
If No, feel free to bash Nintendo, though I didn't think Spirit Camera was a first party title so are they really to blame?

    I blame the consumer.
Too many parents buying shovelware. To many gamers buying off the internet. Retailers caught in the middle, with their prices inflated by ridiculous site rent, wage demands and import taxes. Those poor bastards...

So, since we're off topic and all that... There's a bit of a movement going right now to get a My Little Pony forum going here on Boards.

As a huge Brony, I'd personally appreciate it if we could get some support for that. Especially considering how much effort was required to get this Pokémon forum up and running. We're a thriving subculture and here to stay, so this would be epic. Even if the haters won't just let us have a good time.

You can help us to get votes for the forum here. Also, we're trying to get a social group going too, which can be found here. Sure do both! You'll get it done in ten seconds flat.

And finally, if you don't really get it, watch the first 4 episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. You can thank me for making your life 20% cooler later :D

Am I a Brony? Maybe. For one thing I'm braiding princess celestia's hair right now. It's really therapeutic. I don't like the way they've sexed up the toys though. I mean, I don't routinely make sweaty love to pegasunicorns but the day I start I'll be on her like smog on LA. And that upsets me.

    You have my axe...
