Great news fellas. Thanks for going to the trouble. Getting warm fuzzy glow now (could be the beer).

<<mental note to self- quit drinking red wine now and open a beer. Krusty, carbs, fuzzy glow, lots of reasons...>>

Thanks Lads for helping sort this out, good news with the gates ...Hope they have plenty of Lucozade. 800 is a small field, shouldnt be too bad ...

Have a great evening and enjoy the beers

Got an email from the RD last night, to a list of questions, mainly to do with the pacing group, but the general relevant ones I can post here.

    _____________________________________________________________
    1. Will there be starting and finishing chip mats and interim mats? Where? yES..10KM, HALF, 30KM

Target Times race numbers pinned to the pacer's back? ..GOOOD IDEA CAN YEAH DO THIS
    Balloons?...YES
Size and Number of balloons? Target times printed on balloons?...2 BALLLONS EACH TRYING TO GET TIMES ON
How will these be attached to the runner - is it up to the pacer?...UP TO THE PACER HOW AND WHERE THEY TIE THE BALLOONS
Any special route conditions to be aware of? Low wires / bridges / other?! NO EXCEPT FOR THE AFOREMENTIONED GATES..
    Other mechanism?

    6. Does the race have starting blocks/pens?...NO

    11. Will all junctions on the route be marshalled / marked / cordoned off (rural marathons)...ALL MAJOR ROUTES YES

    17. Is there a seperate area for pacing gear bags, or do they go to the same locations as everyone else's gear?..same as everyone else...20 meter from entrance gate

    19. Are there any hills or features along the route that would give reason to suggest that an even-pacing strategy may not be the right approach?...i don't believe so....steady I would suggest

Also, he sent me a map, more detailed than what is online.

    Hear Hear KC,

Thanks RedB, much appreciate the information and attention to detail.

They dont have to give out Gels as long as we get isotonic drinks - that will suffice but its awkward running with powder to mix your own especially if you are only getting cups, the volume will be incorrect.

I cant see how we will cross onto the path if we dont go thru the rowing club ... its the only logical point ... the other is past the pump house and there are deep ditches on both sides. Also the 2nd bridge arrives near the rowing club and I understand we are crossing the old black bridge.

Do you know if we are crossing the new bridge ... if so ... its going to be hilarious, as its a semi-suspension ... good luck to those with dodgy tummies ...

Wots that you say ? Stop adding to the problems ... :p This is going to be fun, and as I was planning a PB I am giving up on it and Im running it like a fun run ... ha ha

Thank you again for sorting all these queries out. What group are you pacing?
Hi OS, I don't think it will be the black bridge as this has been blocked off since December for safety reasons. As I understand it we will be going over the 2 new brdgies from UL, foot bridge and road bridge.
Starting to get nervous and giddy now, can't wait want to start this morning....

    Hi DP,

Thanks for all the hard work, just to confirm ... there will be now water or lucozade before 9 miles?

Would it be good strategy then to run with own water bottle and fill at points? Rather than fight with cups.

Thanks for advice on pacing, didnt want to do negative split and this is great.

    Have a great day,

    Ciao

Noticed the green lines around town yesterday marking the route....starting to get that almost undefinable pre-race nerves/excitement feeling now. It normally only kicks in the night before a race so god knows what i'll be like by the weekend

There is one short steep climb on the route afaik....the flyover near the Crescent. It's not particularly long but could not the stuffing out a few people I'd say....might come to be known as Heartbreak Hill in years to come if this race ever manages to establish itself.

Good to see the numerous medical/madical stations too:)

    Good luck ;)

    Hi Cartman,

There is also a little killer coming out of Annacotty towards Castletroy, was my old training route and nearly killed me every time.

I take it we are not slogging up the dublin road but following the uni road which is also kinder.

Im just not sure about all the to and fro around and about the city, its going to make it all feel like miles, maybe it just cos I spent so much time caught up in traffic jams there.

Good luck with ticking the legs over and keeping your giddyness under control, LOL

This has surely been and eventful pre-event, we may possibly all be gibbering idiots by the time it starts ... :D;)

    Hi MarieC,

According to the FAQ on the website, there's water stations every 3 miles....could be tricky having a gel at mile 6 without some Ballygowan to wash it down
    "Water stops will be positioned every 3 miles along the course. At mile markers 3, 6 , 9 ,12 ,15 ,18 , 21 and 24."

I have to say I am getting very nervous/excited/giddy about the whole thing. I have a couple of runs to do this week and I am taking them very handy and enjoying the meandering journey my mind goes on while I run. Last run will be thrusday evening. Not worrying about time in these runs so just daydreaming. i always seem to think alot about the Boards forum, different people, their approaches to sunday etc. Getting v.philiosophical the past few days. Im realising that doing this marathin is just another way of me finishing off my PhD time in UL, so Im delighted about that.. Just want to enjoy it first and foremost, and the goal after that is sub 4hrs....

I dont know why it popped in to my head but Take That's song "never forget" popped in to my head just now (Im not even a fan). Look up the lyrics - quiet apt for sunday I think! except we are invincible, and we are super people :-)

Just noticed now that it goes by Donkey Ford's chipper at 12.5 miles, right when you need it. You can't fault that organisation.

Anyone here targeting sub 3:15 for this race?
Weather forecast is looking pretty good 8'C-11'C (except for some strong gusts of wind).

Just called in to marathon HQ there an hour ago. Things seem to be all sorted! Had a good look at the map to kind of get an idea for it. no water station at 6, gels are at 12 and 18, isotonic drink at 3 and 15. Emails apparently are gone out, I still have not got mine though, he was going to re-send that. Has anyone got their email?

Water is in cups as that is slowly becoming standard for marathons (apparently bottles are dangerous).

Total numbers are looking at 5,400, about 800 of which are for the Full, the rest are split between the Half and 10k.

Ok, just entered. How long is this marathon again?;);)
Seriously though, would anyone be able to pick up my number for me. I'm hoping to do the trip in one day.

Thats a fair enough point. I've slipped on discarded bottles loads of times.

If you pinch the sides of a cup, thus making an figure-8 shape of the top, I find it easier to drink more from.

Yip Ive found this definitely makes a difference.
It was good to get a look at their giant map, have more of a feel for the route now, everyone v.helpful in there.

Folks when are ye doing yer last runs? Im hoping tonight and tomorrow night for a 4.6miler loop each night, Im done then.

Also, it is fine for anyone to collect a friends race pack, all they need is the email that was sent out to them.

Build up the training slowly HM, no more than 30 miles in the first day. I'd let the mileage peak at no more than 55/60 by Fri, before you begin your taper on Sat.

Also, you should probably have a step back week on Friday afternoon, before your final long run on Friday evening.
