Eyjafjallajökull is looking very active now...

Yes, I've been looking at the webcams occasionally all day and it's spewing out the most ash and smoke now.

What i think is the plume itself is clearly visible right by where the sun just set. So the South West?? I'm out by Tallaght. Looks cool

(only the second aircraft to pass today)

Yes there was a really funny looking formation near where the sun set...though I had it at north west...couldnt have been the plume though??! Also saw a plane landing at the airport about 8.15pm coming from the west..must look it up as cant be many.

Ha just looked it up...a flight from Malaga. One of the 3 flights arriving tonight.

Not sure if old, but the IAA has reimposed restrictions on Shannon, Cork, Waterford etc. because of the risk area re-encroaching on the south coast.

    http://www.iaa.ie/index.jsp?p=93&n=96&a=864
Mr Philip Hughes, Director of Technology, Irish Aviation Authority, said "The indications are that the ash cloud will present a serious risk to flights in and out of Cork, Waterford and Kerry Airports and Shannon Airport to a lesser degree. As a result we have no alternative but to impose these restrictions until further notice.

Irish Airports and Irish Airspace, with the exception of a block off the south coast, have been operating without restrictions since 10am this morning. However, airlines were unable to capitalise on this arrangement because of the severe restrictions in UK and European airspace.

The UK NATS has again extended the airspace closure over England and Wales till 1pm tomorrow.

Great shots :) Saw only 2 myself today; the sky is usually awash with them.

Yes isn't it class you can actually see the part of the moon which is in a shadow! The moon is keeping it bright enough here for a blue tint in the sky and you can still make out kintyre!! Don't see Venus though weres it??

Looks like the eruption intensity has calmed down a bit in the last few minutes. It was really belching it out a little earlier.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,659 ✭✭✭Darwin

You may have spoken too soon! A fresh eruption is taking place now

Quite a big surge now alright. I think upper winds are increasing a little as well above the volcano.

Should see some great colours reflecting off it as the sun sets.

Pics have been posted in After Hours of what's claimed to be the plume visible from western Ireland:

    (photos from kpatrick)

It sure looks a bit suspect...if it's not the plume it's doing a good job of looking like one.

Ok!! What just happened I went to look at the moon there now and it ain't there did it move?

The sky was very much like that this evening even here, but nothing out of the ordinary at all under these hazy conditions. If there was a bit of cloud it would have been a spectacular sunset.

Edit: Big surge now on the cam http://eldgos.mila.is/eyjafjallajokull-fra-thorolfsfelli/

Yeah I saw that from Dublin and was intrigued. It was in the north west also...can't possibly be it though I never saw cloud like it before!

That's just a plane contrail in the pic from the west.

Wind direction seems to have changed in the last hour. This plume seems to be going higher than before too.
