A few of us on campus, who aren't paying the €35 for rubbish rubbish acts, are thinking of holding our own open air party on the green area between village and river appartments on the day. Stereo with proper tunes from Daft Punk etc. with beer of course. Could get a good rave going!!! If anyone wants to come you're more than welcome!!

Not a bad idea but I wouldn't go offering up my stereo if I were you. I'd say it wouldn't last half an hour to be honest. The security are much stricter this year when it comes to drinking on campus even if that means being no less than 10 yards from your apartment

Stereo? We're all friends on campus and someone would keep an eye on it! Yeah they are but I doubt they'd do anything during the day and given it's rag week. My friends and I have often drank over at the tennis courts, drunken tennis is great craic btw, and nobody has said anything to us.

I admire your optimism but given the numbers expected for the event and the fact tickets can be bought so readily on Ticketmaster I reckon security will be hitting hard on any drinking outdoors thats not inside the fences.

Just my feeling and I could be wrong but I rarely am haha

Haha ok. We'll still do it though and if we get moved from there, we'll find somewhere else!

Got a ticket today and it was still only €29.50

I thought all the cheaper tickets would have sold out on the first day :o

    Apparently not

Yeah I got two at that price at about 2pm today. I thought they'd have been gone too. She said she had about 30 of the cheaper ones left and then it was on to full price.

    You'd have to wonder...
Hope it all ends up alright for them, i'd say a heck of a lot of work has gone into this, be a shame for it to fail

The Scottish band The View were confirmed today, decent enough band but can't see them attracting that many more to buy tickets

The Magic Numbers have been announced today, can't wait to see them. Top band with top music

Would just like to add to my post, individual events, such as the Silent Disco will require an additional fee alongside the €35 required to enter the festival.

This comes from a pretty reliable source who works within the S.U.

To be honest, I really hope it goes off without a hitch, but I've emailed the SU asking a few questions:

To confirm that lectures have been cancelled from 12 on the day and why they did this.

How many tickets are on sale for this event.

Where exactly they are planning on having it.

What time they are planning on it finishing at.

Again, I really hope it goes well with no problems....I suppose the unknown nature of a brand new event is making me unnecessarily uneasy about it.

Did you get an answer to any of these questions yet - particularly about the lectures?

I asked in college today and nobody in the department (Education) seemed to be aware of it - certainly they were not aware of cancelling lectures. As it is they are insisting on making up lectures from St Patrick's Day so this will just cause more rescheduling.

That said, I hope the event goes well. I hope it's well organised and there aren't any disasters.

Just what I was wondering, if it also affects PostGrad lectures? would just be biggest headache for us to have to reschedule more when they are already talking about rescheduling Paddy's Day cancelled ones (which I find ridiculous as they obviously knew about March 17th being national holiday from start of yr and it is afterall supposed to be a day off not a pain in the ass)

PGDE has lectures that week - we're only off on the Wednesday and will have to make up the lectures.

I'll be seriously pissed off if they're canceled as Wednesday is my busiest day, and I'm not happy about missing out on a chunk of final year lectures. Grrr.

Also, I think it'll be a failure, from what I've read about it. Between the overpricing, the inconvenience, the fact that it's mid week means even "normal" people will be hard pushed to justify going.

well the lecturers will be canceled for everyone, so you wont miss out.

    Hey guys,

I'm the First Year Rep for the SU so I thought I'd give a hand with a few of the questions you have. Unfortunately I didn't even know that much about it until the details were released so I'm not a fantastic load of help!

Lectures have been cancelled from 12 o' clock, partly because a lot of lecturers have bought tickets as well as students and the college wanted to facilitate them as much as the SU did.

How many tickets are on sale for this event: 4,900

Where exactly they are planning on having it: Not sure!

What time they are planning on it finishing at: 12- it's a 12 til 12 event.

I'm really sorry that's all I can answer! I have to admit that I was disappointed that RAG week was no more when I heard about it- being a firstie I had only heard great things about it, so I was quite annoyed when I realised it was a no-go. However, when I looked into it I found out that the Gardai are putting a complete stop on RAG week and wouldn't grant any licenses etc for it. That was why the term Raise and Give was so emphasised- but it still didn't work.

As far as I know, there are going to be other events during the day and in the evenings during Charity Week. It's basically RAG week but with a different name.

I'm not just saying this because I am part of the SU (and running for Ents next year) but I have to say I'm willing to give The Gathering a chance and see how it rolls out.

If anyone does have any other questions, if you email me at firstyear@nuimsu.com I'll try and find out some answers for you. I won't be in the office at all this week (I have to step down as I'm campaigning for the elections) but give me a shout at that address if I can help.

    Love,

    L x

It's on in the carpark beside the SU.

Let's judge after it happens, I say.

Kewlish about the Gathering placement. The car park would have never occurred to me
Madness how it only just over 2 weeks away though
    I've gotta start saving

    P.S.
I don't mean to be cruel, but we're all bitches posting on the wrong forum until it's election time lol :p

I heard today that only 600 out of the 5000 or so tickets had been sold as of last week? Any truth in this? Sounds like it could be an absolute disaster...

Well I bought mine on the first day and there were only 50ish of the cheap tickets left and they were the first 500 so I'd say more than 600 have been sold so far.

I know quite a few people won't be buying one until the end of the week/next week. I can't afford it until Monday anyway.
