Hello everyone!! Iv heard that Faithless have been confirmed for the event from a solid source. I cant promise they'll be there, all I was told is that they've been confirmed - whether they turn up or not is a different story! Just letting you all know!

Yeh Declan is correct here..... Line up published and that is it....
I'm afraid whoever told you Faithless were playing has been misinformed.

Rumour has it, SU needed to sell 2,000 tickets for The Gathering to break even, and only reached 400 sold yesterday...

    Can anyone confirm?

As recently as Saturday last week, i105 were running radio ads advertising Maxi Jazz from Faithless was playing the Gathering.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying Shmick and Declan are wrong, just that this is probably where people were getting that information from

hopefully next years exec will scrap this disaster of an event and put students money towards something people actually want

You do raise a good point - Did the majority of students want that event? Doubtful.

As per normal the SU is still a big clique, everyone's mates. And they'll try push the next big fad on the rest of the student population and then wonder why it's unsuccessful.

Just my take on it - Never heard anyone utter "I hope there's another one of those" after last year...

Well it could be because I'm only a first year, but I thought it was great like... pity more people weren't as into it like

I originally only went to see the Rubber Bandits and The Coronas but some of the other acts were great like! :D

    Was there anyone at it?

I haven't seen the sales figures yet but anyone who wasn't there seriously missed out. It was absolutely epic! I seriously mean it, for people who didn't go it was their loss.

Only for people who liked those bands. Otherwise it's like paying €25 to go drinking with friends.

You mean it was an epic piss up. Like one you could have at a house party. Nothing involving such drivel as the Coronas could be classed as epic.

Nope, you're wrong. The atmosphere, especially from The Rubberbandits onwards was absolutely electric. A night out could in no way rival it and I'm yet to speak to a single person who was up front that point onwards who would disagree with me. If you weren't at an event you can hardly give an accurate criticism if it can you?

friend of mine of mine was at it said there was between 400-500 people at it, the whole not being allowed to come and go may have put some people off but i cant see people getting behind it next year either.

Unless of course you like The Coronas.

I was at it with a friend from around half 10 'til sometime coming up to 12. Looked like The Coronas had a good crowd but then we went to see The Minutes on the Venue stage and I'd estimate the most present they had at one point was around 10-15 people. At one stage there were literally 3 or 4 of us standing near the front. It was disappointing and the band did not look happy by the end of it. Their Twitter confirms they didn't enjoy it. It was really awkward to be there :(. The crowd wasn't too great for Mr Hudson when we checked him out either but it might've gotten better when we left.

I really don't think they should hold it again but that's just my opinion (I went last year as well for the majority of the day and didn't think it was great either).

Aw that's crap about the small crowd for The Minutes. They were the only band I'd have liked to see at it.

I seriously can't imagine it will happen again next year.

And we know what should happen to those sort of people ;) Anyway, even their mams thinks they're crap. And no, I can't quote a source, I made it up :)

I was there last year, I can't even begin to describe how awful it was. Plus who said I was giving accurate criticisms?

Who's talking about last year? A lot of people poured their hearts and souls into this event for no personal gain other than the satisfaction of knowing they had worked their arses off for the students who elected them. If you want to pi$$ all over their parade then feel free but do so in the full knowledge that you are aiming at people who gave up countless hours to attempt to put on an epic days entertainment for our students. Was it perfect? Of course not. Did everything go according to plan? No it didn't. If the SU wanted to just have some craic for the "clique" then there are ways to do it that would cause us a lot less stress. If you think you can do better then feel free to run for election. If not, you're just another bitter eternal student with a problem for every solution. Grow up.

How much money did the SU lose on this venture? That's all I care about to be honest. Why was it even necessary? Cue no response from any of the SU heads who frequent this forum.

I haven't seen figures yet. The event was on last Thursday and tickets were on sale at the gate so I haven't seen the figures yet.
