I think they want to just create a festival atmosphere but I really can't imagine walking through any mud.

So far as I am aware, that is the case.

    *Sigh*

You do NOT HAVE to bring wellies. If you want to have a bit of craic and get the festival vibe going, get your tent out, bring your wellies and your sunglasses and whatever else....

Otherwise, wear WHATEVER you want as long as it doesn't breach any laws.

I could have the day off, the office is closed, but I'm gonna be in working my ass off to make sure everything goes well and I'm gonna have a damn good time doing it. Come say hi if you see me looking manic and tearing my hair out.

Most of all, if you are coming, have a blast!! You're part of something new for Maynooth.

tbh I'd be pretty pissed off if they started selling them off when I've paid full price for my ticket.

I'd be pretty sure though that the su would have to get paid b4 any money was given to a charity

Taking a break from the gathering,
Everyone seems to be having a good time,
I'd say it's been a success, although we'll see how much it made.
I think ticket price is a major issue though and needs to be reduced some how.
Tired, oh so tired, and cold....
Heading back for the riverside guy.

Me and my friend drove past the SU a little while ago, it looks pretty cool! I kinda wish I'd bought a ticket now :(

I like the shiny pointy stick things :D

I'm just after coming back from it. Being honest, I'm of two minds of the first attempt of The Gathering.

Firstly, the positive. The lineup, catering, atmostphere, etc. was fantastic. The acts were all in good spirits, performed well (at least the ones I seen (Duke Special, Neil Super-something (he played 80s synth pop and rocked), The Magic Numbers and Japenese Popstars)). There was no lack of food either, and the staff (security, bar, food staff) did a good job. It was nice to see the SU out in full force too. Don't recall not seeing any of them, and I'm including the full exec here.

Secondly, the negatives. There was just so much room for so many more people. It was really odd to have so much free movement throughout the day. My friends and I all throught that the day that it would get busier throughout the day. Actually, it stayed pretty much the same. People did leave and come back (like myself) but it was so dissappointing to know so many students and staff chose not to come. I'm personnally, gonna blame the price of the tickets. E35 (there's no Euro symbol on this keyboard :P) was just too steep for so many students.

If The Gathering happens again, it does need to lower it's admission price. I'd like to think next year's SU will work to either reduce the ticket prices or at least reduce the cost of running the event to make the tickets cheaper. But don't do the same lineup for 2011 and get different artists/bands to show. If you have even a few of the same, it'll kill the event before the tickets even go on sale.

    Just my two cents......*phew*

I was listening out the window, but i couldn't really distinguish any of the *coughs* music that was coming this way.. but i don't think that's the point!

It sounds like it was fantastic in every way: music, acts, administration, except for a sub standard turn out...
o O (sounds familiar to another gig I know, lol:P)

I was there from around 4:30 to 8 today (i only found my ticket at 4:p)

I bought my ticket early enough as i thought they sell out quick, but absolutely none of my mates bought tickets.

Their reason was firstly the price and they didn't figure the bands were worth it even though some are big popstars fans.
I'm starting to think now that people couldn't really see how it was all going to work. Like today I just popped in to see what it was like and I was suprised enough about the whole thing.

Top quality setup, really seriously good stage and lights. They seemed to have everything there that would make a good festival except the people of course and also I was disappointed with the lack of shops selling festival goodies too(silly hats, glow sticks and inflatables). :D

Anywho, I didn't think the atmosphere was any good. Most people were kind of like "where the hell is everyone else" and seemed disappointed with the whole thing(either that or they were incredibly drunk lol).

The performances of any bands I saw were really great, Mundy really suprised me and jeez I can't really remember who else I saw :p

I honestly don't think that they could have marketed it better. Although I think that anyone who did their market research was way off. I left the gathering at around 8 and headed to a party on campus and then went on to Mantra afterwards and something struck me when I hit Mantra and I mean theoretically.
Maynooth just doesn't have enough people in it to support something like that. It's Ireland's "university town" and even though I'm sure more people would have come if the ticket price was lower, I don't think that many people would have to balance the books.

Mantra and O'Neills were empty at 10:30 and although they did get busier(and packed), I'm pretty sure most of those were just from the gathering. Think about it although The roost and Mantra are big they're not 5,000 people big

    That's what I think anyway

lot of antisocialism on campus last night....was walking a girl back from a birthday party back onto campus around 3 in the morning and there was a group of guys trying to knick a motorbike that belongs to someone who lives in the apartment block next to me...shouted at them, ended up tryin to run with it, stumbled, dropped the motorbike, scraped it along the roadway by the apartments. i get up this morning and i see at least 20 damaged windows....one of which is PACR (where i am now)

Moyglare Road is a dump this morning. But it's like that every RAG week, can't blame it on The Gathering.

I am shocked to see and hear about the damage done around campus and the surrounding areas today, but I am not surprised. It was to be expected and we can only be grateful that there was a poor turnout for the event, otherwise a lot more damage could have been done.

Can anyone confirm or deny whether tickets came down in price towards the end of the day? This maybe an indication as to how many tickets were actually sold - infact if anyone has those exact details it would be a lot better! :D

Hopefully the SU-elect will see the failures committed by the current SU and adopt a more pro-student series of events for next year's RAG Week.

I was chattin to a group of around 15 lads at around 10 who had gotten free tickets(they didn't bother goin even then :().

I'm not sure how it worked, but people were convinced that the tickets were half-price I asked on the door and they said they were €35 so I don't have a clue.

Update on the whole vandal situation. At around 8 last night someone pulled a cistern off the wall in the Arts building which sprang a "bad leak" apparently. In Mantra people were getting kicked out every ten minutes because of Fights. Oh and someone like pulled down some sign on the wall in Mantra and managed to break some wires connected to the speaker system so the music just stopped for around 20 minutes. Thinking about it now...

I guess it was all pretty messy actually wasn't it :o lol

Some girl collapsed in the toilets too, she was wheeled away fully strapped to a wheel-chair by paramedics. She looked awful, but I'd say she was just really drunk. Hope so anyway

I saw a guy trying to climb in through a second story window in the apartment across from mine yesterday afternoon. His friends like pushed him up and he made it to the windowledge, only to discover that he couldn't fit through the window, nor did he know how to get down. Hilarious.

I didn't personally see too much wrecking going on, and Bradys were strictly NUIM only so the scumbags couldn't get in.

Was fantastic! :D shame there wasn't a larger turn out, it was a really great day / night.

I didn't get a chance to go as the 35yoyo ticket was a bit out of my price range, I had planned to pick one up once the Magic Numbers were announced but then I discovered that not all lectures had been canceled so I had to attend mine, (damn you MASTERS!!!). While I was on my way to my lectures I was really surprised by the amount of drunken, and I don't mean merry drunk I mean falling down the stairs drunk, people wandering around JH, holding cans and bottles and so on. I've no problem with people drinking around Rag Week obviously, but I was surprised that the SU didn't make the lecture halls an off limits area!

But from what I hear it sounded like a great day and I was sorry I missed it, but then again the 35euro that I saved kept me in cigarettes for the week!
