Cool, any examples? There are some cool shows from the US that would be good this side of the pond especially from HBO and Showtime.

    There is their site.

I will not be impressed if Select customers don't get FX, I was assured a month ago by UPC customer care that we would get it.

FYI: Watch, Good Food, Yesterday etc are are all still due to be added in the coming months as per conversation with a UPC sales agent today. They are also in negotiation with Sky over Sky Sports HD but said it probably won't be for another 6-12 months. No more HD channels to be added anytime soon though.

    :o

All I want at this point is HD versions of the channels I have. I have more food/travel/home/leisure/soap channels than I ever wanted (i.e. more than zero).

I can't even think of any other channels I want. Perhaps some European (non-English language) channels, but that's about it.

I'll be pretty annoyed if the UPC price goes up any time soon due to adding channels I'll never look at but I can't opt out of.

well... I don't want HD Channels. I want just one, decent, food based channel! Not asking for much really.
Don't get me wrong, I've got a KICK ASS HD setup, but there isn't enought HD Content being broadcast for me to warrant the upgrade of my box. I've got blu-ray, 360, PS3 and plenty of other HD content to keep me happy!

Well, that's the problem with UPC, Sky and all the rest. You don't subscribe to channels, you subscribe to packages; which means you end up paying for channels you'll never watch and not being able to get channels you want.

Wouldn't it be great if you could just sign into the website of UPC/Sky, select from a massive list of channels just the ones you want, and get a price just for those? (Or, it could probably now be done through the set-top box).

Of course, they'd never, EVER go for it!

    +1

Also, technicaly FX is not a new channel. It's a replacement and IMHO just as bad as CBS Reality...

Btw, why did UPC get rid of CBS Reality? Aren't they somehow connetced to the station?

not sure I would agree with that, but the reality is there are no new channels, just repackaged programmes targeting a new market segment for advertisers. Digital tv will turn out to be a complete con, getting us to pay for channels we never watch or the same programmes replayed in loops on other channels.

Is this available country wide sorry for a stupid question but its on my epg and when i rang with the intention of upgrading to be able to watch it was told its not available in my area bray. Its bad enough we cant get broadband or phone but now even certain channels!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,438 ✭✭✭DingDong

danois you should be able to get the new channels in Bray. If you subscribe to the max package you should recieve all the new channels bar the HD line up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,410 ✭✭✭danois

I would of thought so dingdong but not according to the upc customer service guy on the phone, then again they don't always know what they are talking about!!!

Maybe I will try again on thursday and see if i get someone else.

Is there anyone here from Bray that has it so I know for sure before I go shouting at them

    thanks

They have a note on the side of the bill on the first page, not sure how it works but they have acknowledged it?

"Chorus ntl will pass on the full benefit of the recent VAT reduction. To keep it simple you will see a 25c a month reduction which will be shown on bills from the end of Jan 2010."

Anyone see this credit for incorrect VAT applied on post 1st January'10 bills? Its not on mine.

Not me, but I did notice the bill had gone from EUR 34.00 to EUR 33.75... Well to think of it, it has never been exactly EUR 34.00 - never over but always a few cents under

Anyway, sent my notice of termination of UPC digital yesterday :)

noticed this evening that Hallmark Channel as well as the music channels Kerrang and 4music have been added to the digital cable line-up, in Cork but seem to be for max pack subscribers. This seem to standardise the UPC packs in all cable regions(Chorus/NTL) for the first time? Can a full rebrand to UPC be far behind?

edit: just saw Wayne's post beat me to it.

Heard a lot of talk so I rang and asked.

The extra Itv channels a food channel and a number of other channels are being added after Christmas.

just off the phone to a csr in UPC. the additional channels to the itv's are; FX, Watch, Yesterday & Good Food. these won't be added till later in the month.

So it seems like people have been told at different times that a Food Channel would become available, but so far, erh, NOTHING!!!

    Typical UPC.

They are coming to pick up my receiver in exactly 10 days :)

Oi UPC/ChorusNTL are still as big a headache as they've ever been.

They're website is just the pits! And well...I used to work in one of the call centre's selling Digital upgrades for NTL to customers about 4 years ago, and again about 7 years ago! HA HA! God I HATED that job with a burning passion! Soul destroying!

    Hello is that Mr ________

Ah, hello Mr __________ it's ________ here from NTL your cable TV providers, I'm just giving you a very quick call this evening to let you know we've just finished upgraded the cables in your area on _____ street. So we'd just like to give you the opportunity now to upgrade to our new Digital tv package for only 5 euro extra per month, would this be something you'd be interested in Mr _________@

    haha sound familiar to anyone?

So before I can possibly face ringing one of those suicidal tele sales agents...I thought I'd try and get the answers on here....

What package is Animal Planet available? On the website it appears its only Max package....which is a total joke! It's the only channel I really want! Select package suits me perfectly apart from missing Animal planet. I dont want to have to fork out a fortune on the Max package for ONE channel. We have 3 boxes, so our basic package is already like 40 quid a month.

    Unfortunately Max pack only.

Well bit the bullet! subscribed to the whole 9 yards! Compared to sky, UPC was still working out a fraction cheaper when 3 boxes are taken into account. Going to split the bill 3 ways in the house so I guess that softens the blow. Anyone know how long it takes for channels to appear after upgrading.

I Upgraded over the phone via the automated system, which doesn't seem all that secure for all they know I could have been a teenage boy ordering playboy channel without the folks knowing, all you needed was the account number.
