Just off the phone to a very nice UPC sales rep. I was shocked by her enthusiasm & helpfulness. Apparently UPC are releasing areas for HD every quarter, so some areas such as Sandyford can get phone (or HD), but other parts of Sandyford can't.. "..yet", she said. Very annoying. She also informed me that UPC ARE in negotation with Sky for getting their HD movie channels.Their HD service isn't going as well as planned & they need to get more HD channels to attract more customers, obviously. They are expecting to have these negotations sorted before summer. I'll wait till its in writing, but still, nice to know they're making some effort & there are some decent reps out there.

would love sci-fi hd and sky1 hd

I'd be very happy if we had Sky Movies, Sky Sports and Sky 1 & 2 HD, in addition to the existing HD channels.

There are (IIRC) 10 HD channels with UPC, but only a few that I'd watch regularly. BBC HD has the occasional good programme. Disney Cinemagic HD shows lots of the Pixar movies in HD. ESPN HD and Eurosport HD are ok, but don't have a huge amount of content that would appeal to the typical Irish sports fan (not a lot of football and rugby).

A question and a bit of info .
Rang UPC last night and moved from Digi Select with DVR (32pm) to Digi MAx inc DVR and am now paying 39pm which is 34 (TV)+ 5 (DVR). Queried the existing vs new prices and was told that after 12months new customers will also be paying 5 for the DVR as it is only an introductory offer . Like previous poster said , i'd take it with a pinch of salt and it may just have been said to pacify me :) , but thats what I was told .

Now to the question , i'm missing some channels , I thought I would get on the max e.g. Hallmark , Kerrang , Sky 3 , 4Music . I havent rang them yet , just wanted to seeif anyone else had the same probs and if it is just a matter of manually adding them or something .

    Cheers

I did this too but the extra €5 per month really galled me so I complained stating that this is not evident on the UPC website (there is no mention of existing digital customers) and as usual it seemed that long-standing and long-suffering NTL/UPC customers were getting a raw deal.

Got a call back yesterday from complaints/loyalty dept and they've waived the extra fee. She told me that the salesperson should have offered me this. I suggested that it's shouldn't be left to the disgression of the salesperson, it should be a policy to offer existing digital customers the same deals as new ones - they shouldn't have to haggle for it.

I believe Hallmark, Q, Kerrang and 4Music are not available on boxes outside Dublin, I could be wrong on that, however, they ain't available in Cork which sucks.

Dublin network must have more bandwidth on the system.

I was down at my parents house in Portlaoise the other day and the only extra channel added is ITV2. ESPN is still showing up as requiring to call and upgrade. They told me they are paying €28 a month and don't have the DVR so I assume that is the Digital Select pack. Is ESPN to be part of this pack? At the very least I assume that they should get ITV3 and ITV4.

They are in an ex-CMI cabled area so should have the full service available to them.

    Yup that's true.

Discrimination if you ask me ;)

They are more then likely on the MMDS network in which case they only get ITV 2, If they want ESPN they would have to upgrade to the Select extra pack for the extra 2e

Remember as a kid when Sky went from one channel to four Cable in Limerick got all four and we in Dublin did not.;)

There were two networks in Portlaoise that wound up as part of UPC. CMI which was cabled and Irish Multichannel which was MMDS. Do you reckon they just offered the lowest common denominator MMDS package to both and that the ex-CMI areas have a load of unused bandwidth.

see below which I posted on another thread yesterday

I was on Max,with Movies Sports,ESPN,HD+Recording,& Multiroom.Spoketo their customer Loyalty team today to complain about new customers getting better prices than existing customers and they gave me same deal as new customer.
Family Sports Pack (includes Max Pack, Sports,ESPN,Multiroom& Free HD) for 64 euro
    plus Movies 10 euro extra

Toal price 74 euro (great deal)

Website says Digital +,but HD + is included as it is now same price as Digital+

In addition to the ITVs and the ESPN channels which finally showed up (yay!), the HD DVR package has now disappeared from My UPC. I haven't checked with them to see how much the next bill will be, might be interesting to see if it's exactly the same.

Just looked at my bill for what I am paying as an existing customer. I am paying 49 including VAT (40 exc VAT) for the Basic TV Pack with DVR....seems excesive?

Looked at the similar pack for new customers, 25 euro (not sure if that includes VAT), so I am paying 15 euro extra as an existing customer...the way I look at it I would be better off paying the 100 euro to cancel my subscription and then re-apply, saving 80 euro over the year and then beyond...

Tried to phone them but I can't get through, as usual...also my statement for Jan still shows the old vat rate?

^^ The NTL bill comes bimonthly, so it may be the case that you are only paying €25 a month.

If you are really paying €49 a month then why not give them a call and ask them to transfer you to the customer loyality department. Explain your situation, I think they will sort out the things for you.

I did the same and they sorted it out for me. Although I was well over my contract period.

^^^^^what cold fire said you are more then likely paying every 2 months so you are paying 25e a month but if not ring them

Ah bingo, did not spot that, just shows how much I look at the bills online...however the same thing applies, if I upgrade I still get charged more than someone new, I guess a complaint might do the trick...!

Does anyone know what packs the new channels Watch, Yesterday, Good Food etc will be on? I know the ITV's are on all packs & FX will be on max, but the others?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 767 ✭✭✭Odats

Rang UPC sales last evening as felt I am paying too much for what I have (Digital Select,20mb Broadband,Sky Sports & ESPN pack). Works out at €110 p.m. Pack on offer for new customers Digital max pack with 15mb broadband Sky Sports and ESPN (not too bothered about 5mb difference in broadband) is only €96 with more channels. Asked could I go onto this and said it would be €30 downgrade for BB & ESPN. If they want too retain loyal customers who have been with them since day one they should do better.

PS Everyone check their VAT rate on this months bill. It hasn't been adjusted for the VAT change back to 21% (still @ 21.5%). Every cent helps these days.

They have a note on the side of the bill on the first page, not sure how it works but they have acknowledged it?

"Chorus ntl will pass on the full benefit of the recent VAT reduction. To keep it simple you will see a 25c a month reduction which will be shown on bills from the end of Jan 2010."

no Hallmark and Anamail Planet are on the Max pack an extra 2e

    Yes and No.
According to their website, Hallmark is only on the Max Pack. But Animal Planet should be in the Select Extra pack - see here http://www.upc.ie/television/selectextra/

As with the previous poster, I rang and got a very obliging guy in customer service who activated ESPN & ESPN America. But despite sending various refresh signals to my decoder, he couldn't get Animal Planet working (I'm on Select Extra with +)

Sky 3 on 133 and Sky Arts on 141 have appeared on the UPC EPG in Dublin this morning....

What has happended to Watch,Yesterday and Good Food which the UPC CS said where to be added....

Btw - EPG is a mess with the latest additions - an overhaul is badly needed

Sky 3 is a waste of a station just another shopping channel and old Keith Floyd shows.

I rang them and they said the bill was printed before 1st Jan (its dated 14th Jan), they'd have also needed to miss listening to the budget which was on 9th Dec'09:confused:

They said I will get it back on the next bill, i.e. Mar'10

Do the maths everyone, 25c covers me, but I'm on the basic analogue

To clear up confusion, the budget was announced on Dec 9th, but none of its changes come into effect until after they are passed by the Oireachtas usually Jan 1st.(except for cigarettes, alcohol and petrol, where any increases are voted on the day and come into effect from midnight) The Vat. reduction was considered an unexpected move but the company has confirmed to you that the changes will be passed on on the next bill, so I don't see much of a problem. Of course, it would have been better for the economy if a more meaningful reduction had been made.
