Exam papers are not to be posted. This includes any exam paper from the current year, including "mocks". No hints, either. Don't ask and don't tell.

Thank you for the effort in putting up your timetable!!!:):D

It's great that the English papers are spread out so ya don't have to be writing loads all on the one day! Geography is a nice one-although in the Mocks last year, my examiner forgot to mark one of my pages:mad: But there was only a few lines on it anyway so it didn't matter much! Maths 2-don't worry if ya see a question (generally a triangle) and don't really know what to do! They usually always throw in a remote question to test your understanding of certain things-I hate when they do that!!:(

History-short questions are all the time repeated-moreso than any other subject! Also, they're very fond of Hitler in the long questions! I remember getting more or less the same question in my mocks last year as I had in the actual JC-How do the actions of Hitler lead to the outbreak of WWII? My teacher said to us at the time, to be guaranteed full marks, include the Holocaust! If I can find my Mock papers from last year, I'll post up some of the questions because teachers usually only work from the exam papers and they don't include the Mocks!

English, despite the amount of poems some teachers do, if you learn 5 poems, covering: war, love, school, memories and death-you will be grand! Mid-Term Break by Séamus Heaney is a favourite, even though it makes me sad:(, but it so helpful for exams! Lake Isle of Inisfree is another great one, but the best of all, a poem you can use for a lot of themes, and especially imagery is Dulce et Decorum Est!'

Science, Learn your definitions! Atomic number nearly always comes up! Physics-know your formulae! Chemistry, experiments dominate this section!

Irish, Is aoibhinn liom Gaeilge!:) Love nearly always comes up in the themes for poetry! Subh Milis is simple and easy to do for that! Last year in the Mocks, I think Athair was one of the themes, and I used Subh Milis!:) If you learn a few useful phrases for the Irish essay, that will raise your marks! The examiners have a particular grá for seanfhocail! Is Maith an scéalaí an aimsir is a useful one-time will tell! I might put up a few Irish phrases on here soon! The aural isn't too bad-learn the spellings of Gaeltachtaí!

I'm not sure what DATs are:o:o

    Hope this helps!:)

Don't worry, one year a question came up to write out precautions you would take in a science lab! You can do it just from your own knowledge!:)

Caroline: Just make it up as you go along. If you give me a minute I'll get you some notes for speeches.

    General Notes

In Functional Writing it is important you focus on accuracy, clarity and structure.

It is worth 30 marks, so it is a good idea to spend 30 minutes on it.

It can include; letters, reports and speeches.

    It is marked on:
    • Content
    • Structure
    • Expression
    • Mechanics
    • Register

    Writing a Speech
    • Address the audience (be creative: particulary when talking to other students).
    • In each paragraph: "Say what you're going to say, Say it, Say what you said."
    • Link paragraphs

    Techniques;
    • Repetition (of either a word or a phrase)
    • Deliberate use of certain pronouns (we, you, us)
    • Stories (personalization) ("Imagine if . . ." etc.)
    • Facts / Statistics
    • Key phrases (as above "don't let it bog you down!" etc.)
    • Metaphors (apparently a cage and fishing are good to use)
    • Rhetorical Questions
    • Lists
    • Alliteration
    • Single Clause Sentences for emphisis
    • Connective/Link Words

    Please excuse any typos! :)

Thank you for the effort in putting up your timetable!!!:):D

And thank you for your effort in replying to it!
It's great that the English papers are spread out so ya don't have to be writing loads all on the one day!

Yeah, I was delighted when I saw that.
Geography is a nice one-although in the Mocks last year, my examiner forgot to mark one of my pages:mad: But there was only a few lines on it anyway so it didn't matter much!

Yeah, I find Geography very easy, although that said we only have maybe 65% of the course done?
    That must have been infuriating!
Maths 2-don't worry if ya see a question (generally a triangle) and don't really know what to do! They usually always throw in a remote question to test your understanding of certain things-I hate when they do that!!:(

Maths I'm not worrying about; I should be ok (I love triangles by the way :D, theorems . . . not so much!).
History-short questions are all the time repeated-moreso than any other subject!

    Great! I didn't know that!

That's good to hear because I know Hitler inside out! And thank you! :)

I've actually only done about 6 or 7 poems, including Mid-Term Break, Lake Isle of Inisfree, Daffodils, Limbo and a few more Seamus Heaney. I actually really need to look over those!
Science, Learn your definitions! Atomic number nearly always comes up! Physics-know your formulae! Chemistry, experiments dominate this section!

Science is one of my best subjects; we've been finished the whole course sine November maybe? So I know it very well!
The aural isn't too bad-learn the spellings of Gaeltachtaí!

Thank you! Irish isn't my best subject but our teacher gave us a few pages with phrases and such (I'd say maybe 90 phrases in total  ) and a page of words that often come up. I know those quite well so I should be ok! I don't know the poem you're talking about though; we didn't do that one.
I'm not sure what DATs are:o:o

They stand for Differential Aptitude Tests. There is some info on them here.
    Hope this helps!:)

    It does. Thank you!

We did a ridiculous amount of English Poetry! I think this is the complete list which covers poetry work by both my second and third year teachers.

    2nd Year
'from the Prologue to "Romeo and Juliet"' by Shakespeare
'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening' by Robert Frost
'The Road Not Taken' by Robert Frost
'Dulce Et Decorum Est' by Wilfred Owen
    'The General' by Siegfried Sassoon
    'The Soldier' by Rupert Brooke
'But You Didn't' by Merrill Glass

    3rd Year
    'Mid-Term Break' by Heaney
    'Digging' by Heaney
'Shall I Compare Thee' by Shakespeare
    'The Spring' by Thomas Carew
'The Old Stone House' by Walter de la Mare

EDIT; Both my English Papers are on Tuesday! And I forgot a poem!

I realyy don't want to do this music mock tomorrow.

But it's more tomorrow after school that I don't want to do.I have to revise basically like all 12 or so poems and my Merchant of Venice.

Both papers are Thursday:(Paper 2 is before paper 1 for some reason.

Irish Aural and Paper 1 tomorrow.

Blue don't worry about the Music it was fine! I would revise everything.

Make sure you have your general study well learned as you know it comes up each year. And have a good idea of set and choice songs works ect.

Oh as well be ready to answer the next question after the one your doing, as the CD's move sharply and out of the blue. There are ones with the proper timings on examinations.ie

You probably knew this all ready from practicing but anyway. And the above is not in anyway connected to the 2010 mock. No hints are above.

Thank you Wandering Soul and Padocon for your posts!

Some of the course in most of your subjects wouldn't be fully covered yet(just as you were saying in Geography Wandering Soul), and so, your grade will be that little bit lower than if you had all the course done! It's annoying, but don't worry, ya can always calculate your 'real' mark by not including the question that ye hadn't covered!!:p

Remember as well, these will be marked harder than your actual JC! Also, if you're doing Science, your project won't be marked for the mocks, only for the JC, so when you do your written paper in Summer, that will count for less! My teacher said to us that you can mark yourself up about 10%! Of course, that doesn't mean you view the written paper with disregard-it's still important, just your grade is helped with the project-provided the project is good!:)

Would any of ye like me to put up a few Irish phrases? And if any of ye need help with any subject areas, just post your questions here!:)

    Irish phrases would be nice,

Would it be a good idea to have a thread and maybe have it stickied with a list of Irish phrases on it that we all compiled together?

    Just a though!:o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,347 ✭✭✭Closed ac

Btw, if you finish an exam that you don't have to answer all questions (Business, Religion, Geog, etc) and if you have lots of time left, you could start another question and you'll be marked out of your best! :)

That is a good idea! It would be helpful for future JCers! We could also do Maths theorems, science formulas, etc. :)

Guys is it ok if I wait until tomorrow or something, as I'm feeling a bit sick now-I came home from school early today:( Tomorrow maybe? So Sorry! I'll do it though, I've been meaning to put up a thread of Irish phrases for a good while now! They would have been very handy for me last year!:)
