Tunnels is probably the wrong word, more like passageways, I imagine that alot of old hospitals had them.

Some info on St. Finbarr's

One of Cork's major hospitals, St. Finbarr's today contains only a number of specialist units - Blood Bank, convalescence, psychiatric, alcohol / drug dependance units, etc. This was formerly the Cork Union Workhouse - a 19th century institution where those in extreme poverty would go - or could be held against their will. Many deaths here during the Great Famine of 1845-1848.

It was also called Cork Fever Hospital before and used to take in people suffering from diphtheria, typhoid and tuberculosis in the early 20th century. Maybe that spirit of the nun was working in the hospital around then when she was alive to assist in givin people the last rites and all that ?

Btw, that whole Our Lady's complex had 941 patients in 1986. Outside of a prison situation thats a lot of people to have locked up n one building at one time. In 1995, there was only one psychologist, 2 occupational therapists and 1 social worker employed in the whole place. Thats fcuck all. Not a good place to be in, no doubt

id say they had the tunnels/passageways originally because they needed them to cart out bodies more easily when fever epidemics were happening in the county years ago. Like,if they were to take those diseased bodies out the normal exits that patients and visitors and staff used, theyd have made a right mess of things.

Everyone is always talking about Cork City Gaol (old women's jail) being haunted. I've been in there several times - at night and during the daytime - over the years and I never saw or felt anything in the place. I don't know what all the brouhaha is about, tbh.

On the other hand, St. Kevin's Hospital also in the Sunday's Well area is haunted. It's that huge, red-brick building to the right of those Atkins Hall apartments (which used to be the infamous Our Lady's Hospital/Eglinton Asylum/Cork County Asylum).

If you can manage to actually get inside St. Kevin's Hospital (which is prohibited, I'll point out), I guarantee that you'll experience something unpleasant of an 'otherwordly' nature within about 40 minutes - 1 hour.

There are several other places in Cork that have a haunted reputation as well, but I'm looking into those places more thoroughly to come to a definitive conclusion..

I suppose its a matter of opinion on that place..... A friend of mine went through the
whole place at St. Kevins from top to bottom photographing it for his Web Site and saw or felt nothing, he admitted thats its not a nice place at all, long, dark errie corridors that go on for ever and that but nothing strange happened while he was there, and he was there ALONE in the day and night!!!

What kind of nasty stories have you heard about the place.....curious

Well i suppose if someone is only goin into there to photograph it for artistic purposes,they arent gonna be too fussed about any 'ghosts' popping out. depends on whether they 'believe' in spirits and all that as well, and if they knew much or gave a crap about the buildings history and the stories about it. If i was in there and i was concentrating on gettin decent photos at good angles i know wouldnt take much notice of weird ghostly sensations and the like

ive read that spirits need the earthly energies of living people for them to appear and cause a ruckus but that the 'best conditions' of all is for a group of young people (esp. kids or teenagers,or near enough) being present. I think its supposed to be because theyre more 'open' to all that and have much more uncontrolled energy and hormones (except the kids,like) coursing thru them. i know that most of my own paranormal experiences happened when I was a kid and a teenager myself. Same for a lot of other people i know who have talked about their experiences. The only thing that would be flat out against this theory is someone being a full-on medium or psychic throughout their lives, but for da average Joe,there are less and less consecutive and notable paranormal experiences from approx. mid-20s onwards

and he was there ALONE in the day and night!!!

why was he photographing the place at night?? Youd get fairly sh!t photos at night and itd prob be dangerous walkin around w/ equipment n a rickety old building at night as well

The Maldron hotel n Cork is supposed 2 be haunted too. it was called The Quality Hotel when I lived n Cork tho. Remember hearin a few stories bout it. Has anybody ever stayed there overnight? theres supposed 2 be one floor in particular (either the 3rd or 4th one) that are supposed 2 b deadly and ive heard the gym is a freak of a place wit all the equipment breaking constantly and mirrors smashing by themselves.

any former guests of The Maldron/Quality Hotel who can confirm any of that? ?
