Waiting makes me sad. I've just been offered a job with much higher pay, with a great company car, and excellent bonuses. It's too good to turn down. Money isn't an issue, so I'd much rather join the police if I get a choice, but one of the stipulations in my new contract will be 3 months notice if I leave before a 2 year entrance period. Does anyone think the PSNI will have a problem with me deferring IF I get the call?

Havent a clue. I dont think they would though. Maybe tomorrow you could ring appointments and explain and see if they could shed some light on when you would be offered training.

I'm in the exact same position. I'm either going to go on the sick until they get rid of me or simply break the contract - any notice period is more suggestive than the law; employers have no right to 'enforce' that you stay with them; you may lose money, benefits, etc that you had with them - but unless you are contracted to finish a specific project (eg. building a shopping mall) it's not worth their while to take you to court.

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place..

I applied over 1 year ago but my last correspondence is dated September 08... I passed the IST and role-plays etc however I have NEVER been called for a medical. I rang 1 month ago and was advised that my vetting was ok, my merit position is 400-410 (non rc). They told me that not everyone gets a medical, is this true?? I know people that have had a worse merit position, have had medicals but not got in....

I know my position etc probably means I will be unsuccessful however it would still be nice to know.. is anyone else not had a medical yet????!

    Help me please!:(

    Hi.

Ok il try and keep it short and sweet, so here goes:

Im non-rc 350s, and have only just had a medical. However, my dear chum MrsGeneHunt from on here is 390s and hasnt had one. General thought is that 300s is the highest that is likely to be offered training. Sorry to say that, I could be wrong, and lets hope for your sake and MGHs that I am. There are still a lot of non-rcs waiting on 'the call' with merits from 300s-370s. All I can really say is hang on in there.

Ps- I edited your exact merit number due to the fact that you could be identified via it.

Thanks for the swift reply. I knew the position was probably not good enough however was just more concerned ref the medical as the more people I spoke with the more everyone was saying that I should have had a medical regardless! Thanks.

If you look back at the 'Medical Thread' you will see that medicals started away back months before Christmas, then there were months of no medicals at all until us non-rcs 340s-370s got called for one back there in May. Seems they only call people as and when needed.

Same here. Its a path i chose 15 months ago and its been a tough wait. Often unbearable. Work situations change for sure and there have been big changes where i work. In a very short space of time too. Unexpected and I would be better off if I stayed put. When my call (pack) came I had no qualms whatsoever. Even though i have a lot to lose I figure I'll be a hell of a lot happier doing what I want to do in the long run. I want to be a police officer. No doubt about it. Track. No sick leave. It may come back to bite you. Four weeks notice is enough for any employer but check for smallprint. Periods of notice may be waived by mutual consent..

Hey, i was going to do the sick thing but i believe in karma and didnt want to risk it, jst in case PSNI requested references etc. I decided to hand in my notice and was going to give the place 6 weeks notice but they started making life quite difficult for me as a result of me leaving, tried to retain me with promotion etc but i turned it down and i think there were a bit pissed. I then went to speak to the "big boss" and said that due to unforeseen circumstances i had to terminate my employment and only give 2 weeks notice! They were fine with it and preferred me being honest than if i had of went on the sick. I know that being a Police Officer is all i have ever wanted to do and it was a no brainer for me.

I havent handed in my notice yet but I really have no problemo with it. Bit of an awkward situation due to recent changes. It doesnt suit employers to have someone leave, have to replace them yadda yadda. I know Im going to have the life of a dog when I hand in my notice. Its going to hit the fan big style. But everyone can be replaced. Its just a pity that after being there for the majority of my working life that they cant say well done and wish me well. Saddens me. Then I think of whats in front of me and I am no longer sad. YYYEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAA.:D

Ya, you are both right; I actually have never taken a sick day in my life and forgot about the repercussions. I'll just do the 'due to unforseen circumstances' line.........with a big smile on my face!!!!:D

Now, back to reality......waiting for the 'call'........

If they give you a hard time just remember me and karma (you will be the one that they end up getting pulled over by in a years time) then im sure they will be nice as pie to you. Also remember that out of 10,000 people you are one of the best! Chin up! Consider it endurance training practice for GV, and if you need me feel free to PM me, im extremely wise for my age. (not to mention a bit of a bimbo). Im kinda like Dianna troy (the male version) from the star trek enterprise lol.

    Ok, its maths time.

So being non-rc 350s im clutching at straws. Was el nino (290s) the highest non-rc to get the (may) call does anyone know?

If there are another 3 intakes at roughly 60 people per intake do you think i'll make it? Say each intake has 30 rcs and 30 non-rcs thats 90 more non-rcs to get the call. Meaning the merit of the highest would be 380-390s.

As you can see im desperate. Do my calculations seem logical? Bearing in mind that the highest non-rc to have had a medical is 370s-380s and the good old MGH in the 390s hasnt had one (booo, hisss!!)

Anyone want to comfort me and tell me it will be ok?

    PYG,
There's a very good chance you will get a slot this year (albeit not on my course - your far to needy) Being in the 350's should be ok.
There is defo a course in August, then prob one in Oct, Nov Dec/Jan and possibly 2 more in 2010 - courses for c13 ran well into early 2009.
approx 349ish people have lower merit numbers but some will be dropping out or waiting on vetting to clear therefore you could be bumped down a course or two as your sitting ready to go with everything cleared.
I know how depressing it is to wait and wait for what seems like ages - but it will come when you least expect it and probably when you stop fretting about it.
its only June now - calls could still be going out at xmas - look at that positively if you can, it gives you loads of time to get in.
I have a hunch you will get Aug or Oct, but like i said your a girl and your very needy so i won't be identifying myself to you when we cross paths later in the year.
Be patient, its a very good trait to have.
