I'm 19, applied there the other day. Dropped out of uni in november and need some advice. Would it be better for me to go back to uni in september and get a policework relevant degree and apply again after or if I'm succesfull join now?
Also does anyone think I'm too young to join and will I be rejected because of this?

Well Fingerbob! Its up to you if you go back to uni or not, but there is no advantage in the application process anyway to having a degree or other qualification..it might help though if you have a background of studying something along the lines of the job just for reference and to help get you in the mindset for studying.

As for your age, it doesnt matter what age you are they wont discriminate against you, but I suppose from the point of view of the PSNI its better to have life experience, and Garnerville is said to be very tough, but all this depends on the individual anyway....so all in all I dont think this will have helped you at all but good luck with your application anyway....oh and its tough to get into one of the 440 places out of 8000+ hopefuls so maybe having something else in the pipeline like uni would be a good idea cause Im still waiting after applyin this time last year!!!

    :):D:D

jeez didnt know that amount of people applied, givin the current economic climate and things set only to get worse, do you think by the time I graduate the psni will still be recruiting as much?

    No.

Recruitment is being drastically scaled down after this campaign. Expect future campaigns to have only 75 - 100 places up for grabs.

hmmm im not sure if they'd hold a place for you for that long, the longest i've heard is about 6 months to wait for someone to finish their degree. so not sure - maybe ring and ask to save yourself some bother?

I know a guy who tried to defer nearly 3years to finish a degree and it was declined. I would have expected that though. If you have started your final year a deferral would probably be successful - any longer and it would be doubtful...

I've just applied for the current recruitment selection after putting it off several times after leaving school at 18 because I felt I looked to *young* to be a police officer haha and also, i didnt really have much common sence being just outta school!

Im now 20 and to be honest dont look alot older, Im around 5ft9 and not terribly built and its really putting me off my application!

Im hitting the gym with my friends and plan to put on a stone over the next 6 months, putting me to 10.5 stone and im fairly confident I can with a good bit of effort bring my overall strenght up!

Should I be put off by looking quite young for my age!? and not being terribly tall?

GaryF1, I'm no expert but I think if you are interested you should get your application in, looking young/old shouldn't come into it, as far as I know age isn't the point, it is more about your confidence and being able to deal confidently with different situations. 5ft9 isn't short by any means, I know a policeman who is a good few inches shorter than that! And if you have a healthy BMI you shouldn't worry about weight too much - especially if you are already planning to do training to improve your strength.

Good luck with it, if it is what you want to do just go for it and trawl through these message boards for hints and tips on getting through each stage - the assessment centre is about competencies and how you react to situations, not about your appearance, and check the criteria for the medical but it doesn't even come around for another few months so you've loads of time!

Hello there, i assume it's ok to apply again even if i'm still waiting for my vetting to clear from the last campaign? Sent in my forms just before Christmas and ain't heard anything since then.

Absolutely. Get the application in before the closing date just in case you didn't make it in the last campaign.

Sorry I'm confused (easily done) lol. Are you saying you've just been invited for a medical for Campaign 14 at the end of April  as I thought you said in your original message that you were just waiting on vetting?

It's just I think there are quite a few boardies would be very interested to hear that people are now getting called for medicals....:D

Hello y'all. I've been mooching around these boards for a while now, but never really bothered posting because most of my questions had been asked/answered by others.
I applied what seems like a million years ago now; think it was around this time last year. Received my Vetting forms late Nov/early Dec and hadn't heard anything since then untill now. Had to call vetting 2wks ago to give them an address and then the following week, like magic, an invite to my medical arrived. I was a bit anxious as i hadn't heard anything for 3 months.

Whats your merit number and background?

I ask because a) there are other boardsies who could still possibly be called for medical and this info woould be beneficial to them and
    b) I have to admit I'm a bit sceptical about your med date as no-one in C14 got anywhere like that amount of notice for a medical and there is a reason why they do not give you lots of notice.

Hi folks. Just one question that's been annoying me. I'm almost set to submit my application but have noticed that the guidelines insist you put the word 'County' or 'Co.' in the box to indicate what County you were born. This would be all well and good if the word 'County' wasn't written opposite the box already. Why the need to repeat it?? Also, this is my first time applying and heard the failure rate for first timers is higher than Jim Morrison. Much truth? Thanks.
