I don't like Ratoath, but Carrick-on-Suir sounds like a place to avoid, or perhaps go and gape at its awfulness.

I've never been to Carrick On Suir but I've heard less than glowing reports about it from visitors.

    Some other kips:

    Abbeyfeale
    Rathkeale
    Delvin
    Portlaoise
    Urlingford

Ratoath? Too early to tell yet. It's basically a tiny village overrun with soulless commuterland housing estates all of a sudden. Wait until the place is overrun with bored teenagers...places like Rathoth are ticking socal time bombs.

oh my god who Kilkenny. Kipkenny more like...

holy god. and the god dam awful traffic lights and waste of time that is Enniskillen..
(hmm a theme is forming, towns with kill in them!)

or Strabang, i mean Strabane. unemployment black spot

On a positive note, Westport is well formulated.
East and West Cork is class, as is the Antrim coast its just amazing on a good day.
And I actually like the tacky seaside towns of Bundoran and Portrush / Portstewart, Bettystown, Bray etc...
Oh the smell of a bag of chips on the beach.
Reminds me of times before people when to Majorka and had egos.

maybe someone should do a mashup on googlemaps and then get bus to do tours..... just to point and laugh...

Gort is probably the filthiest looking place I have ever seen tbh with slaps of road tar thrown around the ground. Buildings are in dire need of repair and painting over. It is definately the most rundown town in Ireland. Only the brazilians save it from becoming an absolute kip altogether.

Ridiculous statement! There are a significant traveller population, but most of them keep to themselves nowadays. Hugely artistic town compared to other towns it's size tbh

I would say Castlebar, Celbridge, Maynooth, and most of all, Dublin.

I'll give you Dublin, but Castlebar, Celbridge, Maynooth? Not sh*tholes, not by a long shot. The nicer towns of Ireland if you ask me.

It is safe to say that there are shítholes in just about every county, some counties have an abundance of crappy places but Dublin wins due to the sheer quantity of disaster areas - note that some of these areas have nice bits, but copious quantities of skangers as well:
    Neilstown,
    Darndale,
    Coolock,
    Ballyfermot,
    Dolphins Barn,
    Clondalkin/Bawnogue,
    Sheriff Street,
    Ronanstown,
    Jobstown,
    Finglas,

Mention Carlow for the sake of it why don't ya :P

Carlows one of the better counties. ;)

Dont know how someone can say Bettystown is a sh1thole, only a sh1thole where all the dubs moved down to and now live. The beach area and town itself is grand. Hotel does nice food, beach is one of the finest in the country, okay a few scummy feckers spinning around once in a while but cant take away how long and nice it is.

I regularly pass through Granard, never stop. It has to be the most depressing town in Ireland.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,900 ✭✭✭V9

Portlaoise or Stradbally, equally as bad.

Another vote on Carrick-on-Suir. We get their blow-ins.

Strabane in Tyrone aswell, town with no cheer. Tramore in Waterford, ga ghetto.

Bettystown is grand. Go down the road to Laytown or Duleek to see a proper ****hole

Derry. A depressing run down city that has been left to rot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭big b

    Strokestown
    Frenchtown
    Tuam
    Gort
    Carraroe
    Ballinasloe

    are all notable ****holes.

For those who've read Stephen King's Black House - I'm convinced he got the idea of "slippage" after passing through Dunmore, Co. Galway

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,910 ✭✭✭thusspakeblixa

I'm informed that Ballymoate, Co.Sligo is a sh1thole by someone who lives there. I passed through on the train and it does look crap.
Surprised that no one has voted for Dundrum. Kip.

I've never been in Dundalk, but Strokestown seemed a lot more depressing than Mullingar to me. That's not to say Mullingar was grand, mind.

Yeah, Frenchpark. Driving through it was depressing, stopping there to pick up tix I was buying from someone was an episode that couldn't end quick enough for me. And I had to drive through Dunmore to get there too
