I liked the other vaults, in particular 108. There isn't much in there, but walking around repeatedly killing
guys/clones called Gary... who only say "Gary!"
    was class.

I didn't find that very exciting myself, got annoying after awhile. As was said previously with the ending robot, I didn't think that was great either, felt WAY too rushed.

I just feel very underwhelmed with the game, the Enclave never appeared until late in my game and
that I see more Enclave soldiers and helis after the citadel is destroyed than I ever did before picking up the geck
In fact, I didn't see any at all before that.

    And
whats up with the stupid distress signals you get when the radio towers are activated ? They're always the same, little hatch near the tower, identical sewer, identical corpses lying about. Yeah, that was real important and helpful. Thanks.

Is this a problem or just my game??..... on end of main quest>>>
So i completed the main quest and (firstly) entered the code myself, then the ending came on followed by the credits and back to main menu, i then click CONTINUE but unlike games like GTA where the continue will put you at some point to continue your side missions, it brought me back to the same point(just outisde the room where you decide to go in or not.

So then i changed my mind and let the girl do it but the same thing happened.

Tried even going back to just before i let the Colonel go but to no avail.
Don't see anyone here saying they had to start again after that mission.
I just ended up going back to a save point where i'm following the robot and just left that place and continued on with the side missions.

Any ideas?... am i missing out on experience points for completing the game??

No, that's the way it is annoyingly enough.

Citadel destroyed ? surely you mean enclave bas destroyed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,485 ✭✭✭Mr. K

    Well,
the Enclave stayed in their base before you destroy it, so I guess they had nowhere else to go. From a gameplay perspective, they represent a greater challenge then Raiders at that point in the game. And you choose to wear their armour (I did!), it's nice to have a constant source for repairing it

One of the things I love about this game is how close to reality the Vaults are. When I was in Berlin earlier this year we visited a nuclear bomb shelter built under an underground parking centre.

The doors, the bunks and the small details are so similar its kinda freaky.

Does anyone else findt the coin operated "personal radiation shelters" in the city hilarious?

"Please wait until the radiation clears"

Just finished this yesterday. Was a massive fan of Fallout 1 and 2, absolutely brilliant games, excellent stories, huge degree of freedom in them. Hell, even enjoyed Fallout Tactics too ;). Was really looking forward to Fallout 3, even though I knew Bethesda were doing it.
Very disappointed though. The start of the game was ok, but it got so poor after that. There was practically no dialogue options I though in comparison to Fallout1&2, the story and black humour was so weak as well. Remember in Fallout 2, going to New Reno and having the whole huge rival family quests, going to Sierra Arms depot was cool and fun, finding out who killed the Wright's kid, choosing what family to join, the Bishops. Didnt think any of the side quests lived up to that at all and (once again) the story was so weak.

I didnt even engage the main quest for a while to try experience aas much as I could from the game, but once I started the main quest (going to the Project Purity place to find your dad, I had finished it in no time it seemed. The Enclave didnt appear til very late in the game, and as soon as I found their base all I did was talk to the President and ended up destroying the Enclave. I was sitting there thinking "Eh, is this gonna destroy the Enclave?? Nah, no way it could be that easy!!!!...*SELF DESTRUCT INITIATED*.... Oh... eh, cool..." And I only encountered Deathclaws once.

    Then from there I just went to the Citadel and followed the Robot to Project Purity, killed 2 Enclave guys, and killed Colonel Autumn with 2 shots in VATS and that was that.... game over. Very underwhelming experience. Just very disappointed because I know Black Isle made 1 and 2, and Bethesda wasnt going to do things like them, but they had a great game with an awesome story there to make something great out of, but they didnt... just made some lazy version of "Oblivion with guns". And I really disliked the way the ending didnt follow on from Fallout 1 and 2 in showing the effect you had on various towns or even groups of people. It seemed it wsa broken down into 3 parts;

Part 1 relating to your Karma
Part 2 relating to if you take the poison from the Enclave President and how you use it
Part 3 relating to if you decide to go into the reactor yourself

Anyway, despite VATS being pretty cool and the bit with the Robot at the end being kinda cool, Im very disappointed with the game overall.

    Thats my take on it!

Fallout 2 sounds great, would it be too antiquated to start playing now?

I dont know if it would play on Vista or anything to be honest. Its a great game though, if ya can find it online it probably wouldnt cost much more than €5 Id say because the last time in saw it in a shop (years ago) it was only about €6

Selling both for €5.99, direct download, both are optimised to run for vista and XP.(you can also download Fallout1/2 soundtracks, avatars, manuals, wall paper etc for free after buying the games from GOG )

Fallout 2 should run fine under xp.

Fallout 1 requires jiggery pokery if you buy a reg copy online, details here:

Well judging by this comparision gallery, they generally made an effort to match the real locations with the game's equivalent.

Play the first Fallout before starting the second one, you'll understand the whole story if you do. Both are excellent games.

You can get Fallout 1, 2 & Tactics for under €15 in GAME (can't remember exactly how much) in the budget PC Section

I personally prefer the first one. The world is less confusing.

I sit just me or does that page look wrong in IE6?
Can't read the damn text because the Navigation section is on top of it.

    That's a bit shoddy.

Yes, the site's broken for IE6.

But then you're using IE6, so you have no one to blame except yourself :p

Both games have different stories - First one leads into the second one with a new character and completely new story.

But yes, nuked world, vaults etc

Just install Firefox. You shouldnt need admin rights, and they more then likely use it as well. I know i do (and our standard is IE6).
