Every so often I get bored with Fallout, when it seems like it's just killing Super Mutants over and over. But then I come across something like Tenpenny Towers,
where I was about to resolve the whole situation peacefully, in keeping with my goody goody character, when a momentary impulse to burgle a safe (for the first time in about 30 hours playing) had unforeseen conequences, leaving me with no choice but to unleash the forces of doom on everyone
, or this (contains Paradise Falls spoilers)

I'm a big fan of saving, loading up on every kind of drug and going postal on rivet city/megaton/tenpenny tower. Great fun.

Maybe it's been answered but is there anyway to play your own music in this game? (PC Version)

    Vista doesn't have a docs and settings folder. Check c:\users\%username%\documents\my games\fallout 3\saves.

Fallout 3 was turning out to be the best game I'd ever played and then I reached level 20 and figured out that was it. I was really looking forward to getting some really cool perks and had I known it would stop then I may have made some different choices. At least I have the great bobblehead search to occupy me over christmas. I'm very disappointed. Oh well at least I
    got to blow up megaton,
my favourite gaming moment ever. Why are people afraid of being evil? why save before committing a crime, go on embrace the dark side, you'll feel great afterwards.

Wait, what? Level 20 is "it"?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Yup. And I don't cover it in spoiler tags because it was flagged in previews & interviews prior to the games releases. Although Oblivion also had a level cap, it was much higher than 20. Needless to say there are mods out there to increase the cap, but yes, by default you can only hit level 20.

Oh and at 20, nothing remains a threat. I actually find myself missing Oblivions levelling method, where the wildlife levelled up with you.

Yes but oblivion had 120+ hours of content out of the box. Fallout 3 depending on difficulty probably has about half that. Development on the largest of Oblivion's add-ons, the Shivering Isles was started well after Oblivions release and it's structure was probably based on feedback. The add ons for fallout sound like they are finished and probably could have (and should have) been included in the main game.

It's the equivalent for me of Oblivion coming out and then charging you extra for each of the guild missions within a couple of months of release IMO.

The trinkets for oblivion were planned, dunno about the Isles. 1st time in the history of ever 2 games have caused a debate of which is the bestest :D

Still prefer Fallout world tho, i just like shooting things.

Picked this up today for €25 in game.

Think I'm after doing the GOAT thing but I bought 5 games today I need to install and try!

Go to Good old games and buy fallout 1 & 2.
    http://www.gog.com/en/frontpage/

The originals have a much stronger story and give you free reign to be as good or evil or somewhere in between as you like.

Plus you get a break down town by town at the end as to what effect your actions have had.

You get a better sense of making a difference to the wastelands at the end of the game Vs Fallout 3......

Completed it last night - very underwhelmed by the ending to it.

the last few quests just seem to roll into each other with no pause and before you know it, it is over.
the fight with Autumn was a joke, two shots and he was dead... Also, are you told the code for the machine at some point? When I first walked up to the machine i had no idea what i was doing, and thought i had missed something. I realized after a few seconds that the Revelations thing might be the clue, so threw a stab at 216 for the code; but i don't remeber really being told to use it.

Have it on the PS3, but want to get it for the 360 with the new content coming out in the new year, so i think i'll do a trade, and be a bad guy in the 360 version, having basically been Jesus by the end of my ps3 game!
Also, i thought i would have to go to more vaults as part of hte main quest - thinking I would have to go back to 101 in particular, but never did... did i miss something? Only went to the vault with the 50's simulation and the one beside lamplight for the GECK

Yup, you missed something :) If you return to Megaton sometime after one of the main quests (I think), you'll pick up the Vault 101 emergency signal, with Anata sending out a message. After that I'm saying nothing!

Mitch Connor - You're not missing much in the other vaults.

grand, i have a save just before i returned to the citidel after escaping from the enclave so i'll have a look, although maybe i missed it, cause I am certain i went to Megaton after the enclave (to stash items, sleep and sell stuff) but nothing happened. I'll have a look online and see if I can find how to activate the signal/quest

I would disagree to this to an extend and my reasoning behind it is that
yes there is not much in them apart from the knowledge of knowing how depraved the vault creators were.

The Vaults were supposed to protect humanity and be a safe haven for after the apocalpyse but most were used to test some of the worst things currently wandering around the wasteland.

Supposedly there's been a few reported cases of him found behind the likes of the clinic after falling to his death, which I suspect happened in my case.

Its after happening again to me - Sienna whats her name (Head of the regulators is after vanishing out of Regulator HQ now. Which is kind of annoying I have 100's of fingers to sell off to her. I wanted the karma boost :(

    So thats -
    Walter
    Moriarty
    Sienna

    So far.

Just came across this thread on Fallout3 - first post has some useful FAQs, including info on how to resurrect characters who have died/vanished:
People in Megaton are randomly dropping dead. This is not supposed to happen.
To solve this post mortem, follow The King of Swag's tip:

If the character is still in front of you
    Press ~ (tilde)
    Click on the character
    resurrect

If you can't find the character
    Press ~ (tilde)
prid <character hex id> (ask someone with the character still alive to look it up for you)
    moveto player

    ADDED
Placeatme doesn't work for resurrecting most NPCs (only objects and creatures), and the console will throw an invalid ObjectID type error.

    Instead, try this:
    prid <npc hex value>
    resurrect 1
    enable
    moveto player

Of course, you can just click the body and skip the prid <#####> line, but when NPCs die, in Megaton at least, they tend to disappear. Also, the "1" argument passed to resurrect tells it to resurrect the NPC in place instead of destroying the old NPC and creating a new copy, so they retain all their equipment. Enable reinstates the NPC's AI, so you don't end up with a lobotomized version of the person (or dog).

I need a hex code for the NPC to do this. How do I find it?
Type save Savename 1 in to console. The 1 at the end causes a notepad doc named "Savename.fos.txt" to pop up automatically. Search that file for the NPC you want to resurrect.

The line you're looking for should be the second hit for the NPC you're searching for, and should look something like this:

    0006A775 588 A0200803 21 Dogmeat - Low(398) Flags(5) Moved(28) Package Data Extra(26) Damage Modifiers(2) Enc Zone Extra(8) Game Only Extra(114)

Where the first value, in this example "0006A775," is the hex ID you want. This will work for any NPC.

I liked the other vaults, in particular 108. There isn't much in there, but walking around repeatedly killing
guys/clones called Gary... who only say "Gary!"
    was class.

    Gary?

    Garrrrrrrry!

Has anyone found dogmeat yet? I usually hate sidekicks because I always feel bad when they invariably die but dogmeat kicks ass. Just me and my dog cruising the wasteland.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Yup, had dogmeat but he got picked on be too many Radscorpians so he's patiently waiting for me back at the Vault 101 entrance!

Finished it last night, bit surprised by how fast it all went
once we headed off from the Citadel. Stomping robot was fun though.
Was also hugely confused by the ending I got, eventually realised that I'd spent so much time running around the control room trying to find the control console that was right in front of me, and then trying to work out what the code was, that as I hit enter after inputting the code the place blew up, so I basically got the 'did nothing' ending instead of the 'sacrificed himself' one.
Another thing that peeved me a bit, I had Fawkes with me, so my first thought was to get him to go in and enter the code, being immune to radiation. He told me it was my destiny and he didn't want to interfere. Chicken.

    Just completed it
The bit where you rampage across the wasteland with the giant robot was fan-fecking-tastic. Best video game scene I've seen since the chopper bit in Resident Evil 4. Tremendous fun.
Ending was a letdown though. Just my character being told he was a goody two shoes.
