That's my point - it should be an option. Reward for you for bringing him along.

Just a little heads up, for a great great gun -
Smiling Jack at the slavers (Evergreen Mills I think)place near vault 112 has a 'Terrible Shot Gun'. As soon as I walked near the place everyone started shooting at me (plenty of beds inside!!) so everyone was dead by the time I got to him. He is the only guy that will talk to you, cause he is a trader. I bought some stuff off him, got some stuff repaird. Then though - screw this - and shot him. Got all my money back, and a lot more.... and the shot gun. Have it up to 62 DAM with good condition - repaired using combat shotguns

Yep a good gun alright. I had heard he had it and paid him a visit recently.

I find that most of my guns never seem to stay in good condition for very long any more. I dont know if its a recent thing or I just never noticed before.

    I used
A3-21's Plasma Rifle for most of the latter half of the game. Really good range on it and decent damage. Also easy to keep repaired in the latter half because there's loads of Enclave soldiers about carrying them

Anyone had any joy taking down any
Deathclaws? Man those things are lethal & very much of the "run away quickly" variety for me.

They caused a lot of hassle for me in the earlier part of the game alright.
Aim for the head generally using Chinese Assault Rifle or Terrible Shotgun works best for me

I still find the most annoying enemies are
Mirelurks, trying to shoot them in the face in confined spaces is awkward and I also dislike the giant radscorpions, mainly becasue they usually travel in packs and are heavily armored. Oh and sentry bots too

Yeah - the terrible shot gun falls to pieces REALLY quicky for me. Haven't found many combat shotguns around lately either, which is a pain. Ended up having to pay people to fix them for me. Notice it most with the shotgun, but a number of other weapons go down really quickly too. My power armor takes a beating too, damn super mutants with their miniguns!! The plasma rifle is in great nick though, not repaired it once either.

    One approach:
Build the dart gun, as one hit from that cripples the legs of any enemy. Without their speed they're easy to take down.

Probably the best weapon overall in the game. Another thing I used was to upgrade the traders at Canterbury Commons, so they get a decent repair skill. It can be expensive but it's worth it if you can't find any plasma rifles.

I have actually spent a lot of time hunting Death Claws. I have 19 claws in my trophy room now and I'm only level 13! The secret is :
a high explosive skill and bottlecap mines

Regarding the power of the Atom quest:
Please please tell me I'm not the only one that
blew up Megaton, possibly my favourite moment in any game ever was watching that explosion from tenpenney tower.

    I love this game

    You can
make a weapon from the death claw's claws.

The best weapon against deathclaws is the dart rifle.

Yep. I was wandering around that town that has a lot of them, thought I'd finally killed them all. Came around the corner, saw one at the far end of the street. Dropped a bottlecap mine, fired a couple of missile at him, and started running for my life. Turned around to see one of his legs had been crippled by the mine, so he was just slowly hobbling towards me, and I think I finished him off with the laser pistol. While laughing at him.

Then his mate killed me a minute later.

But if you can cripple one of their legs they're slow enough to kill fairly easily.

Anyone have one of those mad moments when the time speed-up coming out of VATS goes wrong? There was a molerat running at me, just as he leaped I went into VATS. Killed him. Time sped up again, but his speed got miscalculated, and his body turned into a molerat missile, flew over my shoulder and off over the next hill.

And then his Yao Guai buddy snuck up on me while I was laughing and nearly killed me .

Note to self: stop laughing at monsters, it'll get you killed.

    I have since discovered an awesome tag team method of taking them down;
I met up with Fawkes, the friendly super-mutant, who comes packing with an laser minigun & unlimited ammo. So I fear nothing any more, least of all those Deathclaws. I simply snipe them in the legs, crippling the buggers & let Fawkes do the rest. Far too easy :D

Fallout 3 Creation Kit and DLC announced for January, February and March

November 25, 2008 (ROCKVILLE, MD) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax Media company, today announced plans to make both its editor and downloadable content available for its award-winning game, Fallout® 3 in the coming weeks. The official editor for Fallout 3, called the G.E.C.K. (Garden of Eden Creation Kit), will be available for free download in December and will allow Games for Windows® users to create and add their own content to the game. In addition, the first official downloadable content, Operation: Anchorage, will be available exclusively for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows® in January, and more downloadable content coming in February and March.

“We’ve always seen the original world of Fallout 3 as a foundation for even more content. Some created by us, and a lot more created by users,” said Todd Howard, game director for Fallout 3. “It’s fun to create your own character, but it can be equally fun to create your own adventures. We can’t wait to see what the community does with the G.E.C.K.”

The release of the G.E.C.K. provides the community with tools that will allow players to expand the game any way they wish. Users can create, modify, and edit any data for use with Fallout 3, from building landscapes, towns, and locations to writing dialogue, creating characters, weapons, creatures, and more.

Three downloadable content packs will be coming to Xbox 360 and Games for Windows Live starting in January that will add new quests, items, and content to Fallout 3.

    * Operation: Anchorage. Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.

    * The Pitt. Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.

    * Broken Steel. Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.

Released on October 28 in North America and in Europe October 30, Fallout 3 has been hailed as one of the most anticipated games of 2008, and received a 10 out of 10 review score from Official Xbox Magazine, a result then repeated around the world with perfect scores by some of the industry’s most influential and respected critics including: Gamespy, GamePro, UGO, the Associated Press, MSN, The Washington Post, Guardian, FHM, G4-TV, The Toronto Star, and Eurogamer. MSNBC’s review offered the observation that it viewed “Fallout as a no-brainer for game of the year.” The Daily Star in the UK echoed that conclusion, saying “You can hold all bets on game of the year – I think we have a winner.”

    Awesome!

Ok, those three DLC adventures look great, but to get the modkit (or the GECK rather hehehe) is huge, if unsurprising, news. Oblivion had a gaggle of custom made adventures, quests, fanmade towns etc etc, so I expect nothing less for the Fallout modders. The one thing that's a bit disappointing (though apt given the setting) is how relatively barren and sparsely populated the Wasteland is. Exciting times.

Not another "Oh, why cant it be like fallout" rant, dont worry. But i miss being able to equip my mates with any weapon and having to ration out ammo. It made the game more skillful when I would have to choose between letting Sulik eat through SMG ammo or simply risk his life by going postal with a sledgehammer.

Finally stopped playing the game on a friend's machine (ie. he kicked me out so he could play himself) and bought my own copy.

10 seconds after putting the DVD in the drive of my brand new unsullied-by-anything computer the install program quit with the suggestion that I stop using a copied DVD. So in order to even let the game install I have to crack the damn thing. Not impressed.

Still, that's all behind me. Time to go a-wandering.

Great to hear their bringing out the G.E.C.K as modders can do some fantastic things as seen with morrowind and oblivion.

    The downloadable adventures sound great and have made me extremly upset that I bought the ps3 version. ; ;

Still they should have included dogmeat armor if even just to annoy the fans.

Eh, you can do that in Fallout 3 as well? Trade weapons first and then talk to your mate and speak about tactics. I think you have the options of asking them to use ranged or melee weapons, which in turn will make them use whatever weapon you gave them. Doesn't seem to work for armor though..

You can give people who follow you guns, armour and ammo. Eg.
When rescuing Red, that other guy and that annoying bloke you take to Big Town.
The only problem is that you can't get the stuff back off them!!! (After you've completed the quest)
