Folks,

I look forward to the news, what ever it may be.

On an aside, can anyone tell me why SEI feel they have to outsource alot of their admin work to companies outside the country? I rang enquiring about the cluster scheme yesterday and I was put through to english company who are 'handling all the admin'....

This is not the only work they have farmed out to companies outside of Ireland. Ok expertise may be thin on the ground as yet but this work should be held within the country.

Rant over....

Who is the new CEO of SEI by the way?

SEI project manager Paula Rice announced changes this morning at the Ber association general meeting in Athlone. These changes got a mixed reaction from the assessors present. Paula had to field some difficult feedback and questions, but handled the situation quiet well. Dr. Peter Rickaby's presentation and analysis was excellent. The Ber assessors association was surprised and delighted by the bigger than expexted turnout.
( It will be interesting to see if the meeting in Cork tomorrow will be as good as todays event)

I agree, but I think the training bodies are really upset..

extraction from an email I received this evening. this must be the 10th reminder.

"The meeting in Athlone today was very productive.
• Peter Rickaby's presentation was excellent , his insight and clear answers were both educational and a breath of fresh air.
• Paula Rice of SEI outlined several changes to what was previously understood to be the way forward, as usual her presentation was professional and slick, however she had to field some difficult questions, comments and feedback. She seems to be well aware of the difficulties assessors are facing. We very much appreciate her attendance at the meeting.
• The general meeting , almost double the pre-booked numbers turned up, a strong endorsement for the Ber assessor association.

Couldn't make it to Athlone. What were the changes announced by Paula Rice?

Is there any sign of exam dates etc?

Thanks

National exams are put back untill Mar / April

Within 1-2 weeks registered assessors will be invited to extend their registration to include existing houses , giving an undertaking to abide by the code of practice , including health and safety provisions , implement the survey guidelines , get familiar with DEAP 3 ( crossover form DEAP 2 is Nov 17 ) and sit and pass the national exam ( in due course )

Thanks for that Sinnerboy. That sounds reasonable.

I have passed exam for New Builds, but have yet to register with the SEI as I didn't want to part with my 1k Euros until I had done existing builds exam. It sounds like I should look at registering pretty soon so that I get that invite. Did she make any comment about people qualified but not yet registered with them?

Thanks

the path for current registered assessors is:
registration
re-registerig for existing --- passing national exam --- accrediated as an 'all dwellings' assessor

the path for new assessors from possible next may will be:
new dwelling module -- existing dwelling module (possible all in one)-- trainers exam----national exam-- registration ---accrediated as an 'all dwellings' assessor

im not sure but i would think the fact youve passed the trainers exam, it would simply be a case of sitting the national exam and then registering as an 'all dwellings' assessor.

there was some stark figures give at the meeting

:eek::eek::eek:

edit: see SBs post above for correct figures!!!

Hi all, as I was unable to attend the meeting this week, I was wondering if anybody who attended could give a summation of all the talks/presentations, the Q & A and any other interesting information. Tia

For a currently registered assessor for new builds, what is the cost to register for existing?
Also, how long does a new build/existing registered assessor have to pass the national exam (after it becomes available) to become an accreditated assessor for "all dwellings". For example, say the national exam is available on Mar 1st, can I carry out a ber on an existing house in May without having passed the national exam?

As a newly qualified assessor - once I receive the necessary documentation i'd just seen reference to The Ber assessors association - is there a website for this and how do you join? What benefits are there?

Thanks

Lads I got a letter from the local Fire officer looking for me to produce a BER cert, I got planning after 1/1/2007 but I have stopped building due at the moment due to weather and finances so I only have the shell completed.

Is the BER cert required during construction or after completion?

Thanks

From the SEI website:
As part of the Directive, a Building Energy Rating (BER) certificate, which is effectively an energy label, will be required at the point of sale or rental of a building, or on completion of a new building.

It would do no harm to have it done as early as possible and this would allow you to make any improvements as you are building.

TC, you're right in what you say, but I was refering only to the cert itself and what is required in officialdom.
