Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I'm not on BT but UTV 2Mb upgraded to 3Mb when exchange was " upgraded ", I've had an unstable connection all weekend, here is my latest:

    It's killed my online gaming for the last few days, customer support give the usual response, regardless of ISP, reset router, reset computer, firewall, virus, blah, blah.......we've all heard them, Eircom won't answer my queries due to being a UTV customer and UTV blame Eircom......going round in circles!

    Seems insane that we all continue to pay BT for this total bs.....also this whole callback thing seems like a total scam too as I have yet to receive one at all over the past three weeks - left my name and number at least twice. So frustrating.

    Just saw this thread.

    Same for me for past week or so in Swords exchange. Rang tech support now, usual checks which are useless as usual - standard checks which are not going to show anything (nothing has changed on my side). Should have been on here beforehand to prove it is widespread - which I guess they are well aware of by now!!!

    Will give it a few days before I hammer them for a solution! Ridiculous!

    On Swords exchange, been having the same issue for a few weeks now (as well as frequent disconnections and long DSL sync times but this hasn't been happening so much recently). Pings are higher than usual and some packet loss. Getting slow download speeds from most sources - e.g. youtube vids take an age to load. Interestingly, if I go to download a Linux iso from heanet, it comes down at 1.6MB/s.

    I've been promised a call back sometime in the next 48 hours so I'm expected to hear nothing from them.

    Yeah tried that, all you get is your line is fine.

    Pings have gone back to 60-70 on boards.ie for me.
    Like when i had my up to 7.6mb
    but i'm on 3mb now, thought that woud sort it.
    Looks like Eircom screwed us over. If only bt had more control.
    Although it wasn't great before 9th of august either(once a month i'd get a bad ping) but now its daily but usually weekly.

    Was taking me 20 mins to download to download the new version of pidgin.

    Restarted the router, got my self a new non 78.xxx.xxx.xxx ip and downloaded it in less that a minute.

    Last night around 12:00 my connection dropped. Tried the usual, but nothing worked. Eventually figured out my router could not connect to the BT server to authenticate my username and p/w (ie it was offline). Was down till 2, then I just went to bed ^^

    It would be really interesting if people would keep posting their tracerts

    Tracerts sometimes, can help identify where the problem occurs.

    Obviously you should only run a tracert when the problem is happening and make sure that your line is good condition, like synching at the right speed and things like that.

    For ex

    That’s totally unrelated and it seems like a router issue. Reset the router and try again, that should do the trick… your packets are not even reaching the BRAS.

    This one is a bit confusing as you are using some sort of router between the Voyager and your computer (probably a wireless access point). If you look closely the first thing you notice is that the hop between 1 and 2 takes 5 ms, 2 ms, 2 ms where it should be 1 ms. This would indicate that the first part of the problem happens between the access point (or whatever that is) and the voyager. There is some high latency on hops 5 to 7 but it will be better if you connect the computer directly to the voyager to get a much clearer picture.

    This tracert is a perfect example… and it seems to address a problem with vlan500-vlan54… or at least high latency

    I have seen that some people have come to the conclusion that the problem happens when you get an ip 78.16.x.x. It could be possible but unfortunately the ip range 78.16.x.x probably does not belong to a single BRAS, that’s why tracerts are so important. A tracert will show the exact route…

    Bare in mind that a high response doesn’t necessarily mean a problem as normally, network admin will set up routers/switches to consider ICMPs request as low priority, but sometimes it gives a good view of the situation…

    There is no harm in trying!

    Im having the same problem for the last few weeks. Today Im getting speeds of between 10-20kbps on my premium rapidshare account. :(

    Should I bother ringing to complain ? I cant be arsed plugging the router out and following their silly directions, which seems to be all they ever ask you to do.

    If you get a non 78.xxx.xxx.xxx ip address when your modem syncs up again, then it might be very worth your while bothering your arse.

    Just rebooted my rooter and the "78" is giving me about 4 times quicker speeds the the previous "212". In my experience (limited) this "78" theory is horse manure.

    No ip i get is perfect. a 78 is good then bad, same with 192 and 202...

    sometimes i get a 1mb download and others 2.6mb once it went to 2.7 but it wasn't stable.

    my previous max was 2.66

    pings jump from 40-140 when they should be 25-45

    switched to pppoe, i've always used pppoa but pppoe seems stable. not as good as it was but hey.

    PPPOA is still the best after testing, as long as i dont get a 78 ip, its the same with pppoe.

    on phone to BT once AGAIN. 'we are unaware of any problems' at which I totally lost it with him. told him this line is like an answering machine, and he was lying. Told him that maybe 2% of his customers use boards.ie, and that everyon who posts here has said they have some problems over the past month.

    Told him he is at risk of getting a thread made into a sticky at the top of the board, just like

    OK. They Have Finally Admitted What The Problem Is
    • The problem is directly related to the countrywide upgrade last month
    • It is not just confined to BT
    • It is with the integration of BT (and UTV etc) into the Eircom
    • There are several teams from internet providers and Eircom working round the clock changing and testing
    • It is not helped by the fact that the Eircom system is not the same as say the Cisco system of BT

    They do not have a date they expect this to be sorted out

    Traceroute is often used for network troubleshooting. By showing a list of routers traversed, it allows the user to identify the path taken to reach a particular destination on the network. This can help identify routing problems or firewalls that may be blocking access to a site. Traceroute is also used by penetration testers to gather information about network infrastructure and IP ranges around a given host. It can also be used when downloading data, and if there are multiple mirrors available for the same piece of data, one can trace each mirror to get a good idea of which mirror would be the fastest to use.

    Only got the information after getting angry and asked for a supervisor. Then I was put on hold for 5-10 mins.

    When the guy came back, he told me all this.

    I did suggest that they put it on their website. Obviously that would not be up to him.

    Without him saying so,
    I think that the lack of investment on infrastructure by Eircom over several years is now showing it's face

    I was getting speed of 1900+ up to today. Nice BT man said this was due to Eircom doing something or other that he couldn't explain properly and I was asked to hang in there 'till Friday and if it hasn't improved to ring them again.

    im with perlico and my connection has been unstable since my exchange was upgraded. im begining to lose hope that my connection will ever be fixed. are all isp's effected by this upgrade by eircom ? what sickens me is they did not even give me a upgrade im still on 2mb, but pings of over 150ms

    I would think I was being throttled, but there is nothing about it on the usage calculator page and I've downloaded no more than I did in the days before the service became 'uncapped'. The BT guy didn't mention it either. I've taken 100Gbs as the de facto limit and stayed within it and the router page says I'm getting 2240Mbs. Very puzzling.

    I would also say I was promised a call back within 48 hours on Monday, did I hear back from them? did I feck :mad:

    I've also now spent over 2 hours trying to get through to them today also having left my details on their automated call back BS only to not receive a call back :rolleyes:

    I'd love to post what I really think of them but the Mod's wudnae be happy.

    Still if is a hardware issue betweet Eircom and other providers there would appear to be no benefit what so ever in moving providers :mad:

    I have eircom broaband 3MB & while in work today some colleagues discussed the usual problems with their Internet connection with streaming online videos on Youtube.com so hense i found this form as they are all adding their two cents to the cause :rolleyes:.

    I acutally think the problem maybe that will all the upgrades in the last few weeks more & more people have deicded to stream on Youtube causing congestion on the network, lets not forget that most ISP route through each other if i am not mistaken.

    As if a ISP would have a team scrolling through boards looking for incidents affecting its service. I would assume the most logic step is to report the issue with the ISP and let gather information and look at a possible cause if its local or accross the whole network.

    What is making me laugh today was they all had a theory to what was the problem, i pointed out that they should spend more time doing what they acuatlly get paid to do then try solve a problem that is not work related.

    mine drops every night at 12 for about a min and a half. i think this might be to stop people downloading over night or to free up ips

    a 7 minute youtube video has been loading for 10 minutes and its only about 10% done. Its been like this for me for the last week.

    youtube has been bad on BT for a good while now. So I'm not holding my breath for that to be fixed. First time online in a while so I can't speak about any issues. Downloading some news shows over bittorrent now and I'm getting nice speeds on my 7.6MB connection

    I did ring in the end. Just to register my complaint. They asked me to send Tracerts to bbc and rte to them. I would suggest that everyone here does the same. send them to: residentialsupport@btireland.ie

    In between its been all over the place and if I leave it on all night to download a file it will cut out as it taken up random disconnects too. This was a solid 20Mbs connection since the upgrade a few weeks ago up 'till this Monday. That's apart from the streaming problems that are well documented all over the place here. I was told that it should be sorted by Friday. The chap who told me this also argued briefly that it would not be possible for me to get speeds higher than 12Mbs. The above refutes that and my confidence levels aren't high.

    Was having a lot of problems with my connection so I tried a couple of things.
    1) Upgraded firmware on my modem
    2) Plugged out sky and phone line from the master socket and plugged the modem in directly without the splitter.
    3) Restarted everything.

    Now syncing at 7600/572 with speeds around the 6500 mark. Pings are still around 150 which is awful but at least I know my line can handle it.

    Im in an even worse situation were my modem wont even get dsl sync between 7pm and 1am. I am on the option 3 package of BT (which is @ 3mbits max).

    I tried calling last night and was on hold for 40 minutes, between 8:20 and 9:00pm I just hung up because I know everybody left at that time.

    I called today and they said they would not address it remotely.

    I said to the guy:

    I have 2 modems a linksys + prestige 600
    Happening on both
    Roughly the same time each day

    It works in the morning, just. At the weekend it worked but it was only syncing at 1905 while it was syncing at 3078 for the last 2 years!

    I asked if they had any reported issues around "BARNA" and he was like, um... no. I also asked why I was on hold for 40 minutes last night and he said "we were very busy last night for whatever reason". HELLO!!!! I am experiencing issues between 7pm and midnight... join the dots!!! Maybe others are too!!!!

    This is a total joke, im now spending 25euro a month more on 3 mobile broadband just to make sure I have a connection :( I am already paying 56euro a month for a landline!!!

    Although my connection at present is still up & down....

    Overall it has vastly improved. The ping speeds in general are still a bit high but over the past 24hrs way better than the previous day.

    Just opened a favourite youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoLBRrUBYg8 and it took 30 secs for the whole 2mins 45secs to download into the buffer. IE it was downloading 5 times its play speed resulting in no waiting.

    Here's hoping the various ISPs and Eircom are on the way to sorting out the mess.

    Hello there

    This issue is unrelated. Your problem is just a line issue. Ask them to log this as intermittent service and ask them to check your telephone line.

    The reason why you are disconnected is because your line can't handle it. This could be due to a fault on the line.

    My advice is for you to check your internal setup. In most cases the problem is there.

    The Line was serviced 2 months ago due to noise on the line. I can use my telephone to hearts contempt, and its crystal clear?
