What was the aptitude test like??? was it hard??? did you get much time to do it??? Is dare anywhere i could get a sample aptitude test just to see what it is like?:)

There's sample tests on the Public Jobs website and there are prep courses you can do aswel if you're willing to spend a few quid on them.
Once you're prepared and you know what to expect they're not too difficult.

As Fare as I am aware its is only convictions or if you are well know to the gardi that will stop you. Its all come down to you local station and your record. they will tell you if its is a problem. i know some some you joined 7 years a go and had received 2 fines for been drunk and disorderly. dont take my word for it, but if it was drving without due care and attention, ie. using a mobile phone or some thing like that i dont see how one incident like that would stop you.

i'm looking to join the Garda's. i have done the public jobs side but still i am nervous that it won't work i.e( will I recieve an email for the first stage). i know that the next recuitment phase will be at the end of the year, hopefully, but I'm still wondering if the email will come or not. i applied with public jobs last May. anyone out there with a bit of advice.

If you send your details to Publicjobs, you should get the e-mail. Besides that, I say just watch Boards, when the next recruitment phase does start you can bet this place will go crazy, so it will be hard to miss.

    Bring on Sunday!!

Na, nothing about the medical yet, say it will be a wait yet.
Didn't like stage 1, its not hard, its just the fact you have little control over it, you don't know where you stand once you do it. Stage 2 is a different story, more control and stuff.

getting impatience waiting for the email for stage 1.

Patience is something you really need for this campaign as it WILL take months for everything to happen! Dont worry about the e-mail they will let you know when its going to happen so dont panic! Just to advise there is not another recruitment drive due until maybe october/november (could be wrong on this) so will have abit of wait still! ;)

Possibly.........no-one knows for certain and it could be just rumours so the best thing to do is to wait and see! If they are to have another one it might be scheduled for october/november!

anyone know what the crack is with tattoos and the gardai when joining?

regards tattoo's, from my medical with the garda reserve. The doctor told me that they cannot be visible at any time when working.

So, if you have a tattoo on your forearm, you have to wear a long sleeve shirt at all times.

However, if you have a tattoo on your neck, face or hands etc. - i doubt you cud get accepted into the gards at all.

now what if the tattoo is on the lower part of your neck and is not visable when wearing a shirt?

yeah i'm expert like, i'm just saying what i think they're thinking..

but if it is not visible when wearing a t-shirt then that wud be ok :D

when doing yur medical, you are stripped down to your boxers, so she / he can see everything

I have a sleeve tattoo coming down my arm and i got in. In the college, you've to wear a t-shirt as part of the PE uniform (uniformity). My tats aren't mad offensive or anything but I was asked to keep my tattoos covered up, so i wore a long sleeve shirt or a bandage for PE during college hours

WOW!!!! What an amazing thread!!! I’ve been trying to find information on various different websites about the recruitment process and this is by far the best thing I’ve come across in ages!! Its brilliant, well done to its creator PSNI. i find it really reassuring to find people in a similar state of panic and apprehension

Q: have any of you enrolled in one of the courses available to help improve your chance of acceptance? theres quite a few of them however they are relativly expensive, thoughts??:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 417 ✭✭the locust

There are a few places that run courses i did kilroys it was good, but bloody expensive.

I found what was best for me for the apt test was to just find IQ test books similar to the sample ones on publicjobs and just devour them, do them over and over till your sick of them and then do them again. Its just trainin your brain to recognise the sequences, think common sense answers for the other parts and be honest and you'll ace that of the apt test putting you in an early interview seat to get in.

Can't really say the name of courses on here ( otherwise I'll make PNSI mad :)) but the one mentioned above starting with K, is a complete waste of time, too expensive and it is out of date. Cost 270 euro for photocopied paper and at least 2/3 years out of date.

I did a course for the aptitude test that I would definitely recommend. It's a day course, and they talk you thru everything so it's a tad more personal. It's also cheaper than the one mentioned above.
PM me if you want details..
