hey just wondering if anyone could offer me any advice. i want join the garda. im 19 nearly twenty i done first year in college this year but i wont be going back. i was wondering do the garda accept people my age or do they generally accept more mature people? im wondering what are the chances of me getting accepted at this age as i wont be going back to college so hoping i get in?is it worth my while to focus on the gards now or go on and do something now and apply when im older? also does anyone know if having a juvenille record can stop you joining?

    Thanks,

My advice to you is go for it 100%. Your not to young, and yes they (Gardai) do hire people your age. Their looking for a broad mix of people, with different types of experience, ages etc. Also they can put you through college too. As regards the juvenile offense it depends on the seriousness of it. If it's minor they probably won't hold it against you. However I'd go to the Garda web site and email them (garda recruitment) regarding your query about it. If you do apply it would be best to admit to whatever offense it was because if you don't and they have it on record they will certainly not entertain you. Be honest, its an integral part of what being a Police Officer is about.

No its not to young. The Guards are looking for people who are well balanced and basically mature. Jes you can get people in their 20's & 30's who aren't mature. Once you show that you have the skills they are looking for and show that you are the right person for them it doesn't matter what age you are ( well between 18 to 35).
But saying that, they do prefer that you do experience life before joining up, for your own benefit.

Yep the November intake looks pretty certain alright, I think the question mark hangs over when the next competition will open though..

Iam i right in saying that an intake is were people start in templemore and a recruitment drive is when you are invited to apply. definite intake in that case does not imply definite recruitment drive?

P.S, Murphy(cork), yea wont be so luck next week!!!!:p

PAS told me Number reduction is inevitable because they are reaching the desired number. but she put freeze out of the question. we will have to wait and see!

from what a seargant told me the accelerated recruitment is being wound down, there will be 1 drive a year unless the **** really hits the fan and is frozen, with regards knowing someone who says another its all rumour, you are better off checking pas daily

they didnt say what the announcement was but i would say its what u have said. i would say it will go to one a year or two smaller ones. it could never be maintained at the current level anyway.
