    iClarified has a guide to Unlock/Jailbreak a 2.0 2G iPhone in Windows.

I might be asking a stupid question but I have a 1st gen iphone 1.1.4 that i jailbroke, unlocked and activated with iliberty + a few months back. Will the method above work fine or do I have to have used somehting else first?

    thanks

No, the above method will work fine.

Follow the steps as stated and it all should go according to plan.

    Good luck!

OK, I followed all the iclarified instructions but when I go to restore my iPhone I get an error message saying: "Your iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1601)"

Any ideas? I saw somewhere I may need to uninstall and re-install my itunes but I don't really wanna do that because then I'll prob lose all my music I assume?

    Any help??

I was just reading through the guide again and I noticed I never got the notification in Step Thirteen, saying "You will then be notified that your iTunes has been Pwned!"

When I Open the custom firmware it just goes straight to itunes and I don't get that Pop-up???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

Got it to work, there's a stage missing from the iClarified guide, it never tells you to click the iPwner button to Pwn iTunes, that needs to be done too or you get the error messages either 1600, 1601, 1602 or 1604...

hi all, just after updating to 2.0 and everything seems ok except my mail app keeps crashing does anyone know of a fix? regards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,492 ✭✭✭randombar

Basquille had the same problem, he just restored it again with itunes and it fixed it.

Remember to hold onto the modded 2.0 SW as you can restore it again and again!

thanks gary i tried that but still no mail fix!

    chriskat..

It's worth trying this: do a restore again using the custom firmware. But before you restore your data with iTunes, check if the Mail app works.

If so, restore everything except your Mail account. I think that might be where problems lie.

thanks basquille, but how do i deselect my mail account from restoring?

thx was all set to do it and found out that there is no installer and appsfor current phone don't work for 2.0 yet. I'd miss touchpad pro too much for one. Hopefully be all sorted in a few weeks

Well, there's the AppStore apps to contend with for now.

I'd say Installer 4.0 should be out this week.

Any update on how the 90111 text issue can be sorted out on 02 PAYG?
I'm roaming abroad and Edge is turned off and it's still sending the damn things.

Try changing the settings by logging on via SSH.

    This worked for me!

    Good luck!

I have an unlocked 1.1.4 iPhone which has been working like a dream until the other night when I fecked it up on iTunes. The phone, web/wi-fi, and apps etc are all still working perfectly, but i managed to wipe the ipod of all its songs when syncing to Itunes on my computer. The computer took all newly downloaded material purchased via my iPhone and when the sync was finished I realised there was nothing on the iPhone. So I tried to sync again, but now iTunes is telling me that it does not recognise the contents of my iPhone and keeps suggesting that I go to the summary page and restore my original settings by clicking 'Restore'. If I do this will I brick my iphone? How can I get iTunes to recognise my iPhone again?

BTW I have stopped and restarted the Apple Mobile Device, plus installed the latest version of iTunes on my computer as per advice on the Apple support website.

My gf just got an iphone off ebay. Its unlocked and working fine, apart from YouTube. I have safari working off my wireless but it cannot connect to youtube. I'm not sure totally what the firmware version is, how do I check that on the iphone?
I'm afraid if I connect it to itunes that it'll be bricked, how do I avoid this if I connect it to itunes? Also how does Edge work with a RTG vodafone sim?

Settings --> General --> About --> Version (as below)

If it's 1.1.4, there's a fix here but I'd recommend just upgrading to firmware 2.0.

It won't be bricked. Apple can't "brick" your iPhone - whether it's legally unlocked and activated or not. Don't worry about that.

You need to get the Vodafone EDGE settings.. I'm sure if you search the thread, you'll find them.

    ... Aha, there you go!

Think a good few people had problems getting EDGE working on PAYG Vodafone.

Thanks for that basq. Is it safe to upgrade to firmware 2.0? Do I use ziphone or how do I do it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,203 ✭✭✭✭Basq

No, ZiPhone will not be required. That should never be used anyways.. it's infamous for being very buggy and terrible written, and have ruined many peoples iPhones.

It's safe to upgrade to 2.0 - you using a PC or a Mac? I'm gonna assume a PC, but there's a video here which you can follow directly: Video!

Any questions, give me a shout!

Careful using that 'isp' vodafone setting. Isn't that the connection that will cost €20 per MB of data!

No clue.. did a search and it was the first one I found.

Anyone let us know of the correct settings?

Check the SMS service center number:
Step 1 - Checking what number is set as your SMS service centre number

Launch your iPhone keypad and type -

    *#5005*7672#
    Press Call

You will get a response that tells you the number that has been set as your SMS service centre number. In all probability, that number is missing a digit or is wrong.

Step 2 - Erasing the incorrect SMS service centre number

On your iPhone keypad, type -

    ##5005*7672#
    Press Call

You will get a response that tells you that the service centre has no address or something to that effect. It means it has been erased.

Step 3 - Setting the correct the SMS service centre number

On your iPhone keypad, type -

    **5005*7672*+nnnnnnnnn#
    Press Call

Note - nnnnnnn is the number of the SMS service centre number that you need to find out in the first place.

You should get a response telling you the number has been set. If the response says No Address, you can use Step 1 to check the number.
I think Vodafone's SMS service center number should be +35387699989 but may have changed since I had my last Vodafone phone.

I tried those settings but its still saying "error sending message".

    No clue mate.

Might be worth trying either restoring to your current firmware, or upgrading to firmware 2.0 and see if it fixes it.

just started to look about an iphone while im out here in the states for one more week.
looking for a bit of advice as to what is best to go for......
it will be 2nd hand.... (prob buy off craigslist)....dont think il bother with the 3g version as i live in donegal...would imagine coverage wouldnt be great up here!! or am i mad to overlook it?

best to get the 1st gen with FW 2.0 or 1.1.4??

is 2.0 the best firmware available?? (third party & official apps?)

anything else i should look out for (apart from the obvious-unlocked & jailbroken)

sorry for all the questions & im sure these questions have been answered before but i just dont have the time to trawl through 300 odd pages!!

would appreciate any replies as my time here is running out!! :(

Makes no difference really. It's easy to upgrade (or rollback if needs be).

No official apps are available for anything under firmware 2.0 (as in you need firmware 2.0 to download from AppStore). But on the flip-side, there's no Installer available for firmware 2.0 as of yet (but should be available shortly) so there's a distinct lack of 3rd party apps for firmware 2.0 (besides a Quake port, Pacman port etc).

Not specifically.. but it's worth mentioning there is still no way to currently unlock 3G iPhones so if you do buy one, you'll essentially have a nice fancy iPod Touch until that is addressed (and it's inevitable).
