Looking for some help here.Going buying a second hand 2g iphone from someone as they are getting the new 3g one.
Firstly how much should I pay for this.
I currently have billpay with meteor and want to keep as in contract.
I am looking at this webpage herehttp://www.kenbenoit.net/?p=21 on how to use on meteor.
    Is this the best guide.
Will I need to keep the guy I buy it froms sim until I hack it or can he just take his sim out.

Thanks in advance for all the Help

For all you Windows users, WinPwn 2.0.4 has been released to allow you to upgrade to the 2.0.1 firmware.

Site seems to be overloaded right now though!

I just updated straight from itunes it worked perfectly the phone is still unlocked and activated the only thing that is missing is cydia but as there is nothing on it that is it not much of a drawback.

Everything is working perfectly appstore/youtube/maps etc

Might be a quick option for people while they wait for installer to be released properly

have a look at adverts.ie for a guide to current prices

Don't use that guide it is a guide to using Ziphone which is badly written dangerous and does not support the latest firmware

    he can keep his sim

www.hackthatphone.com gives a good simple guide for mac users if you use windows basquille has given a link for winpwn use that instead

I kept getting "error 6" from itunes when I tried WinPwn 2.0.4. I went back to 2.0, I'll have to wait for WinPwn 2.0.5, I suppose.

Unless you specifically want cydia you can update straight from itunes

have done it on 2 phones and worked perfect on both

I upped the root size to 1000MB on the IPSW (with installer 2.0 & cydia) and it worked ok this time.

Cool but to be honest I think unfortunately installer and cydia are on their last legs it seems like only apps that can not get on app store will be on those as most iphone developers seem to have thrown their lot in with Apple.

Hi There, I've been using my iphone with ntl broadband at home through a buffalo router for the last year or so. I have just changed to an eircom wireless broadband account but can't get my iphone to recognise either the eircom wireless a/c or even the same buffalo router when I connect the eircom modem through it.
It finds both the eircom a/c and the buffalo a/c but when I tell it to connect to either one it says it can't connect and I just wonder if there are some settings I need to change to go from NTL to eircom.

I'm not sure if I've explained this very well but basically I can't connect up to my new wireless a/c at home and would appreciate any help any of you might be able to provide.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sunny.

No nothing special you have to do is your wifi encrypted the default with eircom is wep u should really change of to WPA you will need the password for whichever type you use to connect

Ps make sure you are trying to connect to the correct eircom network not one of your neighbours

    Hi Cdebru
I still can't connect although it is showing me as having the 3 little curved bars at the top. Could you explain
"the default with eircom is wep u should really change of to WPA you will need the password for whichever type you use to connect
I really am a novice and not being able to get on line is driving me crazy. When I open safari it says it can't open the page as it can't find the server. Do I need to give it directions or something:o

There is still some useful stuff in installer/cydia but I'd agree with you, the app store is where it's at for the most part.

OK Guys , Gone and fecked it up again .

Had 2.0 running on my iPhone . Downloaded winpwn 2.0.0.4 and tried it ......

Now all I get is that bloody stupid error 6 .

Ive gone back to winpwn 2.0.0.3 and run it again , But to no avail !!

    Any ideas ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 864 ✭✭✭Jilm

I was also getting error 6. What worked for me was increasing the root size to 1000MB on the IPSW builder (winpwn 2.0.0.4) - its in the partition resizer tab.

Are you sure you're in DFU mode? The screen should be blank when iTunes detects the phone for restoring.

    go to settings then wifi

then there will be a list of wifi networks that the phone can see plus the one that it is connected to will have a tick

beside the name of that network there is a blue button with an arrow click on it that will show you the ip address that the phone has got from the router

it should be 192.168.*.* ( where * stands for a number or numbers)

if it is 169.*.*.* then the phone is not connecting properly to the wifi network try moving closer to the router or put the phone in airplane mode for 30 seconds then turn it off again see if you can get a 192.168 ip address.

try that and get back to me

OK, Firstly, thanks cdebru for all the help.
now. Even when I stand right beside the eircom modem my phone cannot join the network. It just says "unable to join network ***". When I press the blue arrow button beside the network all the fields are blank. The top section has DHCP depressed and below that the HTTP PROXY is OFF.
The phone is saying it has 2 or 3 bars of signal so it's not that either.
I wonder would clearing my phone completely and reloading the software do any good. My fear is that if I clear my phone I won't be able to get any of my cool apps back on it again because I have no wifi:o:confused:

Guys, a niggling backup\firmware update issue I have.

Twice now after I have updated to a new firmware (1.1.4 to 2.0 and 2.0. to 2.0.1) I have lost all my music and videos on the iPhone :-( I done a backup beforehand and thankfully was able to restore all my contacts, SMS messages etc. etc. but losing the music and vids each time is starting to piss me off. I used WinPWN to build a custom firmware each time and then done the shift + restore in DFU mode to restore it.

I manually manage my music and videos on my iPhone as I don't like synching, on previous iPod you could manually syn with a number of PC's but now that does not seem to be allowed. I am almost 100% sure that before when I done an upgrade from 1.0.2. to 1.1.4 I had all my music and videos intact afterwards, I didn't use WinPWN then though, it was an official Apple restore and then an unlock via iLiberty+. Why in the process of doing the firmware upgrade which I thought was essentially the operating system does it delete all user content?? One would imagine that the two are separate??

Any info\enlightened on this would be appreciated.

    M

    hi,
does anyone know if there is a way to check HOW you've spent your PAYG credit on o2??? as in €xx.xx on text msgs, €xx.xx on calls, €xx.xx on internet etc.....?
reason is i have gone through about €60 in credit since i started using my iphone properly when i got back from america last week and i dont know where its going!!!
i have been on the internet, app store etc... but only once on EDGE as it cost me like €15 for 10mins!!! the rest of the time ive benn using the wifi in my office, apart from that im just using the phone as normal (calls & texts) so i dont know where the mony is going??? and its adding up!

is there any way to check????

PS thanks to basquille.... i can now download from the app store. (simple reinstall of itunes) :o

a bit of help needed here guys.

so basicaly i tried to upgrade the firmware on my unlocked 1st gen iphone. I was running 1.14 to 2.01. I tried using winpin and got as far as the creating your own custom .ispw file, but then the app just keeps closing, just before the progress bar reaches the end, so the file is not actally created !!. So then I read that I could just restore the 2.01 firmware in on itunes and it would work. So I did this but had now seeming locked the phone. When I plug it in itunes tells me that I need to restore the phone, but when I try to restore back to 1.14 I get an error message "an unknown error occured (20)" ?? WTF

My ZiPhone application, which I originaly used to unlock is not working.

The screen on my iPhone just showing the usb connection and the itunes logo....and thats it.

any ideas where I can go from here ?

    thanks:confused:

Ok the phone signal is irrelevant to the wifi

When you try to connect to the eircom router does the phone ask for a password

Are you sure that wifi is turned on in the router and that the eircom network u are seeing is yours
