Good news: Pwnage Tool 2.0 has been released! for Mac OS X (the only OS that matters! ;):D).

Bad news: It's all a bit unstable and buggy. Some people are getting their iPod Touch / iPhones upgraded without problem but others are having various problems (e.g "2008-07-19 21:45:48 - Failed to prepare x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw file.", failing at DFU mode etc.)

Great guide here if you wanna give it a shot!

    Hey Basquille,
Both methods talk about bootloaders? What are they and where will I get them?
    Thanks
    Gary

Can be gotten here - am unsure why you need both the 3.9BL and 4.6BL.

Uploaded a copy of PwnageTool2.0 to my webspace also.. as links to it as quickly going dead by the minute.

Unfortunately, doesn't look like there's an easy way Gary.

You'll need to re-run PwnageTool and ensure that you deselect the 'Custom Logos' option in the builder.

Am about to upgrade now.. did you follow BigBoss's guide I linked to above? Any problems?

Ya used that one, main things for me:

Make sure to select the option key when clicking restore, my first mistake.

I actually had to do it twice. Once to pwn it, then again to actually unlock it.

Also don't forget to back everything up!

You know any good logo's to use?

Oh and takes a while so throw on the golf! :D

Just finished (and performing a restore from my old iPhone). Went swimmingly went.. the most difficult thing was getting DFU mode right. Can be right fecking awkward!

Really thought it would be more trouble than that!

    Huzzah!

EDIT: Plenty of custom logos here (http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=38010)

That DFU mode is a pain.. Got it in the end.. Seems to be working fine

Man.. there sure is some crap in the App Store (prime example.. see 'Jared' :D).

However, the iTunes remote and Tomatoes (for looking up films on RottenTomatoes) are fantastic!

Just browsing through the free apps for now.. but will look at a few of the apps that you've to pay for later - some of them are only 79c.

Ya was messing around with cydia there and manage to remove most of my apps, have to do it all over again!

    Careful now!

Still can't find some half decent logos, don't have psp to edit any and most aren't allowed!

EDIT: Facebook pretty nice, reckon I'll have to make a top ten. Also downloading SDK to build one of my own!

I know it's been mentioned before, but don't ever ever use Ziphone. It's a complete POS as software. My iphone worked for a while, then I got the dreaded wifi issue where it was dropping the wifi/crashing/restarting the phone. I'm pullin my hair out resetting/DFU mode/restoring. Still no end in sight. Looks like a corrupted bootloader/ issue. I'll reset it to 4.6 and hope for the fuggin best.

If I ever get the chance to meet the retard who wrote ziphone.......

    Wibbs..

The good news is that the custom 2.0 firmware by Pwnage will reflash your baseband when you perform the upgrade to 2.0.

Some essential iPhone apps from playing around in AppStore:

Shazam: recognises a song by holding the iPhone speaker up to the speaker / TV / radio playing it. Just tried it with a few songs and recognised every single one. :D Top-class!
Midomi: Similar to Shazam but with a couple of more features. Find an artist / song by playing it into the iPhone speaker (like Shazam), but also you can find an artist / song just by saying (or even humming) it.. and then find information and play samples of their music.
CubeRunner: a game that looks exactly like StarWing or Starfox - avoid the blocks by dodging them using the accelerometer. Brillant!
PhoneSaber: Daft but the Star Wars fan in me loves it! :D
PearMe: A simple photo-match game but you can use your own photos.

Don't think so..but I'm using an app called 'GarageBuy' which AFAIK does essentially the same job.
GarageBuy for iPhone enables you to search, track and even bid on up to 16 eBay auctions while you are on the road with your iPhone or your iPod Touch. Never miss an auction again!

The one problem I have is that Mail.app is quitting out on me.. think there's a fix by deleting a folder using SSH but I haven't really looked.

Thanks for that basquille. I restored and rejiggered using pwnage for 1.1.4. OK it's back as a phone but still no joy on the wifi angle. I flased the baseband with bootneuter. Tried 4.6 and 3.9. Neither seems to have solved this.

Anything I see online about this problem blames ziphone. The muppet even put a fix wifi button in later releases, but was a really dirty hack which force set the IP on the phone.

Some can get their phone working again. A lot can't. I'm one of the latter. I've tried iLiberty a really slick package and it worked but stupidly I did a restore of my previous backup in itunes so same dealio crept back as a problem. So on to pwnage I went as iliberty would crash out when I tried to use it again. At this stage I've restored well over 6 times.

As I say if I ever got the chance to strangle ziphone fool I would. I suspect I would be in a long line of people.

Is that with the exchange push working or in general?

Working fine for me and gmail?

It's just in general.. saw someone with the same problem and said it was common enough (and happened with a lot of people who upgraded to 1.1.4) and to reset your permissions on the Mail folder using SSH.

No, I upgraded straight from 1.1.3 to firmware 2.0 - no need to upgrade to 1.1.4 first.

Follow the guide I linked to earlier.

    Hey guys

I'm just about to run the latest and greatest pwnage tool to upgrade my current 1.1.4 1st Gen iPhone to 2.0. The phone was unlocked, jailbroken and activated using ziPhone (i know, i know!). Reading the guide the Basquille posted earlier (thanks!) it makes no mention of phones violated using ziphone.

Before I do do anything I just want to run some questions by you guys:

    1. Does the restore option in iTunes restore firmware AND baseband AND bootloader that was messed with by Ziphone?
    2. do I need to re-virginise my phone before starting the upgrade?
    3. are there any additional steps, or issues I need to be aware of?

    Cheers!

Ya let me know how you get on with ssh'ing into the phone, that would be interesting enough!

Yes, it will restore your original baseband (before ZiPhone f*cked it up) after you restore with the custom firmware (created by Pwnage) in iTunes.
    preilly79 wrote: »

Nope, not necessary. Simply restore to the clean 2.0 firmware first.. and then open Pwnage and let it create the custom firmware for you. Then restore with that.
    preilly79 wrote: »

No real issues.. the most difficult thing is entering DFU Mode. Pwnage will prompt you how to do this.. but it's more or less the following: power off your phone, hold down the power and Home button together for EXACTLY 10 seconds. Then, let go of the power button but keep holding the Home button. You'll hear a beep as iTunes recognises it.. there should be absolutely nothing showing on the iPhone screen during this.

I'm actually restoring to my Custom firmware again as I've been having a few issues today:

    1. Applications crashing on launch and iPhone restarts. Unsure why exactly.
    2. Mail will not open up for me. Tried changing permissions on the Mail folder and no SyncFix (which fixed the issue in 1.1.4) to run. But restored to my custom firmware there, and my Mail app opened up fine so I'm restoring my information (sync) back onto my iPhone, and I'll see if it still works after that. If not, I know not to restore my data.

And as I typed that, my iTunes just beeped to say my sync is complete. Now, to see if i'll need to restore my custom firmware for the third time........

........ nope, it seems fine now. Must have just been a glitch in my original restore. Very handy as iTunes resynced all my applications I downloaded from AppStore too! :D

Basquille, once again thank you for your help. I don't know what this thread/forum would do without you!

I'm following your instructions and the baseband is being flashed as I type. Looks like it's gone smoothly so far!

    No worries mate.

If you're at the flashing baseband, you're more or less done. Should be on firmware 2.0 as I type this, enjoy!
