Good description Tipperman, your pitching has to be spot on or your bopped, no two ways about it. The greens are superb at the moment from what I've heard, and they will only get better from now on. I just hope the Nec do the same in Tullamore in terms of operations/organisation as they did in Glenville, because as in 2003, this has the prospects of being a classic.

As for my chances Tipperman, my focus is firmly on Clara at the moment, and once that is over I'll turn my attention to Arden. To be fair though, Aggie is the better prospect of a home shout, he is a true Tullamore man, and while I'm sure they'd be happy if I was the man to bring a medal to Arden, they'd be happier with Aggie!

    Kingdom,

Tullamore would be glad of a National Champion from their own course whether it be a local lad from the town or the Term I hate " Blow In"... On the day itself, local lads playing at home brings its own pressures. I know from 2000 in Lakeside and it is not easy to deal with.. You are an experienced player now though and I expect you to take this in your stride... You will give it a right rattle especially if that putter of yours gets going... -16 I feel will be winning after 36 if weather is ok and if you handed me -23 now I would take it as I would def be in medal contention

You are doing the right thing by not looking too far in advance.. Thats where players make big mistakes as tomorrow is always a new day and anything can happen...

Best of luck in the Matchplay this evening...Anto Gray is a tough opponent and even though you are playing on your home course I would advise you not to take him lightly.. I made this mistake in Deerpark in 2004. I beat Sean Downes in the morning and I envisaged playing Derry McCarthy in the quarter final but Anto gave me the hiding I deserved in the end. He beat me 4/3 and it should have been more...

Best of luck anyway, I would think if you were to beat him you will have a great chance of making the final... I would think also whoever is to win the Dublin Matchplay will make the County Team so there is a huge incentive for anyone to win that now....

There is a roundup more so than a review which is appropriate I think. Now having said that if someone was prepared to do a report on the Senior tournament when it ended I've no doubt that the Webmaster would post it up on the Dublin website.
If it still is RR, he's the best around he really is, and to be fair as well, he probably has given up playing time to do the website, which says a lot as he was a fine Intermediate, as good as there is in Dublin anyway.

I'd love to see him nominated for the NEC PRO, he'd be made for it, but I don't know how it would fit in with his commitments.

Totally agree Kingdom, the chap is playing himself, and is in the semi finals, he prob was on it late last night as usual, ger why dont u take over as PRO LOL

The dublin team is so open in this year they might have to go with winners of the top competitons, the only man that has qualified for everything is Sean Harkins, if he's gets to the final he'll be the first on the team sheet, who knows on the other 5, The dublin matchplay champion might be 1, strokeplay champion 2, and then who ever does the best average on the National/Dublin Strokeplay overall 3, exaample, finishing top dub or winning the national will be an advantage, that leaves 2 spots, who knows then.

Will Derek make it this year lads... Would it be hard to leave him off from his experience levels etc.... You can't have all youth and no experience but then again a fresh starts is always a good start

His best chances are the 3rd option i put down been the top dub in national and being in with a chance of the dublin, no one doing anything special thats were trials should have been introduced, we've been through that conversation before so dont want to get into it

Advice I would give you Ger as a young player would be to enjoy the game and don't be putting pressure on yourself to play well all the time. If you relax, (ur bound to be nervous at the start) you will always play your best..I remember when I was your age, (not that long ago:)) I thought all I had to do was turn up and I would play my best all the time... The big thing is to take each hole as they come.. Get the honour fast, put the ball on the green at all times and your opponent is under pressure immediately.. That is the beauty of matchplay...

Whatever you do, don't rush anything but don't slow down for the sake of it either like some players have a tendency to do when playing in Comps.. In my opinion you should always practice like you are playing a competition as then nothn has to change etc....

Best of luck, missing the Nationals should give you an extra incentive and also the fact that he has beaten you twice... 3rd time lucky perhaps.. Pass on my regards to DT also..

I know Billy Farrell went crazy in Kilbeggan a few years ago but I can't remember what score he finished.

Wow thanks guys, i was just hoping for a brief summary  This should help big time as i doubt ill make it up for the scratch cup. Luckily for me im only playing in the inter section :D I was senior last year but didnt play much due to the leaving cert so i got a shot back. Hopefully ill be in with a good chance on the 26th july!

The last 4 inter winners have been from cork and all have been my age so if this pattern continues i should have a good chance!

    Thanks a million guys!!
No worries Jinky, it would be worth coming up a day to practice though, and the course is open all day nearly every day for practice, and it should be in relatively good condition from now on too. If you can only get up the day before you play the advice would be the same as for the matchplay: get there as early as possible as the course will be packed.
The scoring will be good in the inters, I know we have high hopes of taking two of the inter medals, as two of our young lads, Hogan and Newman are very promising and are playing very well at the moment. Newman in particular has brass balls, nothing seems to faze him, and he would have been 2nd qualifier if he was senior.
So best of luck to you Jinky.

Congrats Ger... Maybe you took the advice on board and this helped you in your win. What the actual scoring in each of the games as the Dub Site didn't disclose this....

In fairness to Darren Thornberry, I am personally delighted to see him doing so well... Whilst I know he was on his own course, I have great time for him as player. He has a great attitude to the game and was very unlucky at Glenville as he had a bad patch in the first round that was his downfall against Sean Downes. If Darren had been playing anyone else that day he would have won his match comfortably...He is a serious contender now for the Dublin Team especially with winning Ierne this year as not many Dubs have won a Scr Cup this year have they????

I think if Ger can manage to win the Matchplay he has to get the Nod of the Dub team but I feel he has to win it to be considered cos of age... I think the Dubs need to pick one of the younger lads and I feel Ger is prob the best prospect in Dublin along with Fred McMahon. Both players have not qual for the Stroke so this might curtail their chances somewhat... Frank Ryan is a certain to make it along with Sean Harkins...

Best of luck to everyone involved in the Dublin Match this evening..

The lad you are looking for is William Forristal... I haven't seen him on the circuit in nearly two years... Declan Sheedy is still going strong.. A good steady player who always does well in the Scr Cups and normally quals for all the Majors

True enough Tipperman, the club has been starved of senior single success for a while now so any type of result is welcomed, but there is a good little group of seniors starting to emerge. Aggie Galvin is playing consistently well now, but needs to bring that to either provincial or national level, he is capable of it, while Mick Hogan is playing very well now, certainly he's playing the best I've seen him play in the short time I've been there. I think his young fella is giving him a jee up, and with myself playing decent maybe the standard amongst us is rising.
Plus there is a very good rivalry with Clara and the fact they have a good core too makes things nice and competitive.
I suppose what i was alluding to is that I'm slightly more withdrawn from all the hype that will be going on in the next few weeks as I'm not around that often, and when I am its at ridiculous hours of the day. So yeah I'll be expected and am expecting to do well, or at least give it a lash, but I won't be prone to the same pressures as the lads that are up there every day hearing the same things day in day out.
You hit the nail on the head, putting will be the key for me, I certainly give myself enough chances.

By the way I think the scoring you're forecasting is spot on. Anyone who betters 24 under in tullamore will be a deserving champion.

Dublin team would appear to be wide open. Derek has a battle on his hands I'd say, harkins has been in everything I think so he would be expected. I would imagine the matchplay winner this week will be on it.
In a way the moving of the Dublin Strokeplay to the week before the strokeplay is genius in terms of getting the champion onto the team. The excuse didn't wash when it was held in May but it will be on 3 weeks before the Lein I/C so there will be no problem there.
Maybe some of the dublin players could speculate who's in the running.

George McGreal did 84 in Cloghogue and then a 45 in the last round on his first time playing it, thats a 129. Thats the lowest I know of.

That was some scoring up there in fairness considering it was his first time playing it... Best I have ever done was -31 at Larkspur Park back in 2006 but it was playing handy enough that particular day....

Best I have heard over 36 was John Cahill's 82 at Majestic last weekend and over 18 was John Dennis' tremendous feat of 36 at CYMC a good few years back

Personally I thought DT had as good a chance as anyone, and with him getting to the S/F tonight he sure of a spot, but I think he'll still need a good showing in the dub stroke to cement it.
Ger probably would need to get to the final of the matchplay and make the last round of the strokeplay to make it.

Kingdom this was the early comment i put

I say at the moment - Sean Harkins will be on it

    In the running

    Winner of Dublin Matchplay
    Winner of Dublin Strokeplay
Overall performance on the Dublin/National Strokeplay
    2 spots left

Paul Nolan again in with a shout, 4th in Leinster, last 8 in the matchplay (dublin strokeplay will be his gateway in) that would leave 1 spot could be frank ryan if he fails to win the matchplay - who knows to be fair
