Have to stay loyal to the Cork contingent. Either Murphy, Walsh or O'Donoghue will win. All in top form at the moment and have won either Munster, Cork or Scratch cups in the last two weeks.
Not a bad prediction !!!!!. The 3 Cork Lads are in the semi finals. Should have gone to the bookies. Appears to be a great matchplay this year.

Dromcill spot on mate, john walsh was awsome yesterday he birdied 11 out of the last 12 to beat damien fleming he was 6 down

Unfortunately i got knocked out of the last 16 by fellow dub Paul Nolan, made too many mistakes and Paul punish me, fair play to him.

The standard was very high and the semi finals will be a cracker.

Well done Hitman on getting to the finals and getting as far as you did. A fine achievement in itself. Well done also to Ray Murphy on achieveing 3 in a row. The guy is incredible. Will go down as one of the best ever to play the game.

I want to take this chance to congratulate The Messiah formerly known as Ray Murphy.. He is best this game will ever see in my opinion and it was an honour to play against him over the weekend.. He is a great ambassador for our game and one has to think will be ever be stopped.. I gave a good battle but the putts failed to drop for me in the end and he showed his experience and desire to win by getting invaluable birdies on 11,12 & 14 to close out the game....

Murphy in my own opinion is making us all better players as we have to continue to improve if we are going to challenge him.. I felt he played better to win in Stackallen and he admitted that to me himself but this only proves how strong his game is, that he can win without being at 100% which is a fantastic attribute to have...

Glenville in my view was fantastic.. Their facilities are the second to none.. Derek and his team did a tremendous job in hosting the best competition that our game has to offer... I feel it won't be long before we are back there again... It was another excellent weekend for our great game...

Congrats to everyone involved at the weekend - fantastic success and hopefully Glenville themselves reaped the rewards financially aswell as the pats on the back. They deserve it, a great club with great members and a super Chairman.

Tipperman, fantastic stuff this weekend. Your passion and intensity for the game is second to none. Some great shots and some great comebacks this weekend - great to watch. I have no doubt you will claim the ultimate prize at some point.

You have to hand it to Ray and several of the Munster guys in general - they have set the bar high. It's up to the rest of us to get there and I believe, bar the top 10 in the rankings, it's tightening up underneath. I'm sure a few new faces will enter the top 10 over the next year or two.

A bit disppointed with the Dubs in general - we all seemed to fall once we hit the stiffer challenges but there is definately improvement in the Dublin standard. I just think we need to work a bit harder and want it a bit more so that we can edge out those tight matches that we seem to be on the wrong side of at the moment but I have no doubt we will get there.

Roll on the rest of the season - See you around.

Cheers for the kind words DT

Needless to say one has to wonder what a player has to do to get over the heavy finishing line... I do believe I can do it but you certainly do need the little bit of luck to get that win under the belt... Hopefully it might not be too long more

Dublin players in my opinion were a little unlucky with the draw.. I know myself I had 2 very very tough games against Dublin players in which was very lucky to have pulled thru... Dublin players are not far off but they way the Inter Co Team is chosen up there is a little difficult for young players coming thru as it very hard to get passed the oldguard when it is a Picking System and this stops younger players from getting valuable bigtime experience etc... I mean how could Paul Nolan be left off the Inter Co Team last year!!! Experience counts for a lot... I remember getting to the quarter finals of the Matchplay in 1997 when I was 16 and the next time I got to the quarters was last year... The standard is very high but unless you are competing in the Prov/Nat comps on a regular basis I feel that your game has to suffer in the long run;)

Best of luck to all the competitors in the Strokeplay Quals this weekend.. It will be most interesting to see who quals for Tullamore as I know Kingdom will certainly fancy his chances of doing very well there come the end of July:)

Cool, maybe I'll give them a ring and see.

Something I was thinking that might be a cool idea, we could get a group of us who regularly post here together and play a few rounds together at one of our clubs? I know I'd definitely enjoy a few tips!

I'm play a chap from Lucan, J.Carey. Don't know much about Lucan or Erins Isle so I am in this for the experience more than anything!

In the Dublin Matchplay are you not allowed to hit a few shots on the course before you actually play your match.. I know you are allowed do it in Tipperary but then again the quals would be less there anyway...Is Erins Isle a nice course.. They have some good players playing from there at the moment ie John Hoey, Jason Larkin and Paul Nolan.. They have to fancy their chances of doing well there don't they:pac:

Its juniors and inters at Erins Isle and the seniors are out in CPM. From what I am reading, Paul Nolan appears to be the form Dublin player of the last while, with our very own Hitman not far behind.

If I wasn't playing in the inter grade I would definitely like to watch some of the senior matches. Depending on how I get on, I might make my first trip to CPM later in the week.

It's good to see the competitiveness of the senior grade in Dublin though, I know from speaking to the Seniors in my club that to achieve Senior success takes huge practice time and commitment.

All of that can only increase our chances of getting some National titles.

Dublin have the players in my opinion but haven't been doing it in recent years.. You have to go back to 2003 since the last Dublin player was in the final of the Matchplay or semi final for that matter... This is a poor reflection on the players in Dublin.. They did very well in the second round of the Inter County last year against Cork but they should push on hard from this now

The younger players like Hitman, Paul Nolan, Ger Fitz, Fred McMahon are all the upcoming players but they need to push the older more seasoned players harder to try and break onto the County Team on a more regular basis... Dublin have great young talent but my fear is that they mightn't get the chance to play for Dublin under the current system which is an awful pity... I can't see why they can't run the Co Team like most Counties and have X amount of trials with X amount to count. Top 5 make National Team and top 6 make Prov team.. There you have the best team at that given time and if you make you make it... 5 Wildcards if a very dangerous game as you can never make everyone happy.

I can see a resurrection of the Game in the capital in times to come.. They have the players

    I am curious...

What did people think of the Bookie over the weekend.. I am not talking about them personally but if you thought it was a good idea in general?????????

My own opinion, it only works properly for the Matchplay as you can bet on individual matches and I think it adds to the comp for the supporters.. In Strokeplay it is a different ball game altogether but I think the fact that there is a bookie at these comps really does add to the comp.... Pitch and Putt in fairness has been declining in recent years but it was tremendous to see such a crowd out in Glenville on Monday afternoon so I hope if they had a punt that the majority were successful but I am sure the bookie did ok in the end:D

I don't really understand why the Dublin Board don't run a ranking system just as the PPUI do? It would be a good way to define player quality on actual play rather than on previous performance/reputation and it would also be something enjoyable for all involved.

I didn't know before you said it, but the idea of not having trials/qualifiers for the inter county team seems a very outdated system in my opinion. Any sportsperson will struggle to achieve at a high level unless they are exposed to high level competition.

Tipperman think its a great idea, they should have 3 ball betting in the national strokeplay, like they do in the golf, it would add spice to spectators and u might have more coming to the game to have a bet and make it a bit of a atmosphere during matches. i had a bet on myself against jim judge but many lads especially from cork lay down considerable amount of money.

Ye its harder to get in alright, think the board will be looking into the national and dublin finals to see what players are doing, it be interesting this year as many of the experience players have done nothing, it looks like the younger players might get a chance. think they should bring in trials that will make sense over the year

    Hitman

3 balls in the Strokeplay I can never see happening as it would slow the whole comp down but I take your point... Cork lads have a tendancy to be good gamblers and the rumour was that a certain Cork fella put €800 on a fella to win his match.. Crazy stuff... I have never backed myself as I could jinx myself but I know a lot of my friends etc have won a lot of money on me over the weekend especially against Skinner and James Carroll where I was the underdog in those games and the lads pounced on the odds... I think it does add to it in fairness once no one gets stung in the end....
