I put down Primary Teaching & HPSS in UL but I missed a lot of TY and 5th Year (Mother was in hospital & passed away during exam time), I actually think I blocked what I did in 5th year. So I feel I will be repeating.

If I am, I am working for the summer and changing my courses. Dropping History and Art, and doing Geography and Ag. Science/Business.

Very sorry to hear about your mum.

I've just finished HPSS (sniff, sniff). Really interesting course and I'm really glad I picked it (it was my first choice, followed by Arts in NUIG/UCC/Mary I). UL is also absolutely savage... Call me biased, but I wouldn't pick any where else! I've friends in other colleges who agree that there's something special about UL. Personally, I think it's the fact that it's all based on one campus and everyone lives in the one area so it creates a real little microcosm of its own. PM me if you want any more info!

And the very best of luck to you and everyone else! Once it's over you'll never look back! ;)

Thanks. The weird thing, the course dropped down to 360 points. My friends sister did it and she said she got to go to some really cool places like Sweden in the winter.

I'm wondering what sort of job are you looking for now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

Haven't updated it yet but it'll be something like...

    Theoretical Physics (TCD)
    Maths (TCD)
Computer Science, Linguistics and Irish (TCD)
    Visual Communications (DIT)
    Science (TCD)
and.. yeah, I dunno. Things like that. CSLL seems to tend to be AQA so provided I got a B3 in Irish that'd be my lowest points one. Had architecture in DIT down as well but I didn't go to the interview so I don't rate my chances.

I'm wondering what sort of job are you looking for now?

Yup, as part of the course you spend one semester (term) on work experience - I did mine as a civil servant with the Oireachtas Joint Committee for European Affairs in and you also spend another semester on Erasmus (study abroad) - I went to Warsaw, Poland (there are loads of places to choose from!) for 5 months. Brilliant experience and lots of travelling!

I'm hoping to get into journalism eventually, but I'm taking it easy before looking for a career! I was elected as the Publications and Publicity Officer with the Students' Union in UL for the coming year (so if you do come to UL drop in and say hello :)) which basically means I'm one of five student representatives. I'm also in charge of the student newspaper, the magazine, website, and PR relating to the Students' Union.

A lot of my friends are doing further study, with a view to getting into development/international relations/humanitarian aid. Some are planning on teaching - including teaching English abroad. It's a very broad course that won't confine you to a narrow range of career options. Don't worry about jobs just yet - a humanities degree is a great way of broadening your horizons and widening your perspectives on things! You'll probably find that what job you see yourself doing now is not where you end up at the end of the degree! That's not necessarily a bad thing, though!! :D

    Right now it's

    Trinity - Maths & Philosophy
    Trinity - Maths & Economics
    Trinity - Maths
    UCD - Maths
    Maynooth - Maths

I can't remember what the other five courses or my level 7s are but I'm pretty sure I'll get enough points for Maths in UCD. Still thinking of completely shaking up my CAO form though.

Ya the third year is one of the main reasons im going for the course.

All I know is the course is split 50/50 between business and chinese in 1st year then after that its 60/40 in favour of business.
I do know that the hours are fairly similar to the commerce course (just when they do some business subjects im off doing a language) which I know wouldnt be the most time consuming course (well not compared to medicine...)

Ye i mean, its tough, i picked up a good bit over there, but it would involve studying what you learnt every week i was told.
Its not something you can just pick up a week before exams etc.
