PSNI or anyone, if you can answer this for me, what is the self-defence training like, i have be training in taekwondo for the last 8 years and i know that the training in templemore is useles so very interested in that may be ahead for me

From what I know, taekwondo has a lot of kicks, and we don't kick people a lot these days.

The self defence training is a 20-week course that concentrates on restraining techniques and minimal use of force which is not what martial arts teaches you. You would get into a lot of trouble if you start breaking bones or knocking people out cold just because they resist arrest.

Some the scum you come across deserve it though :D

Hi everyone, i applied for the selection test on thursday the 6th at 9 05am sharp! As yet i havent recieved my date. The only thing i can think of is on the application form i ticked weekends as apposed to evenings. Could this be why i have not got a date? Should i apply again or would it be better to phone? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi ash7,

Have a look at this, it may give you some ideas..

    http://www.policecouldyou.co.uk/officers/Medical_59-2004.pdf

During the medical you have to touch your toes, stand on one foot with eyes closed and arm outstretched etc etc..

Make sure you can 'flex' about without any problems.

With additional info make sure you have all reports from your GP regarding the injury to your back stating that it is now okay and no further damage has been done.

It is probably advisable at this point to go to an orthopedic consultant to get a full current assessment of your back + a description of exactly what the injury entailed and what your outlook for the future is (this is how they decide if you are suitable for the pension scheme).

Without this info you will be asked on the day to go and get the relevent reports, which will simply cause you further delay (this has happened to me..I am getting a consultants report next week relating to a very minor knee operation I had 5 years ago).

If you have put anything on the MHQ relating to previous conditions/treatment make sure you back it up!!!!! :)

Thanx mickey very helpful info! How long after vet forms do you reckon that they would call you for medical? cheers.

    Chris,

I sent vetting forms back mid November..got called for medical end of Jan 2008.

Medical was approx 7 weeks ago now..still have got no answer due to having to provide additional info...process is so slow!!!

BTW I think you would need to have a pretty good Consultants report with regard to your ankle..as you can see from the document they seem to be a bit wary of 'metal work'. They may want to see evidence that the injury has healed. Has your Doctor told you how long this would take??

That could be why you are having to wait. I applied again as well same day as yourself, and i got my date 5 days later. You could ring them I suppose and say you would like to do it during the week.

As long as you do the test, I dont think it matters when you do it.

Congrats Gemmat and everyone who has got the call up.

Got my medically fit letter a week ago and it said Recruitment will be in contact shortly to explain what happens next.

Haven't heard anything as of yet.

Have you rang them about your medical Mickey?

How long after sending away vetting does it take before you get a letter about the medical?

Hmmm....yeah, but do people actually bring their friends or family?? This is a very good point!! Because I don't want to be the only one turning up with my mum!!! hahaha!! That would be embarrassing!!! Feedback please....are many people bringing friends/family to induction night?
