Hmmm....yeah, but do people actually bring their friends or family?? This is a very good point!! Because I don't want to be the only one turning up with my mum!!! hahaha!! That would be embarrassing!!! Feedback please....are many people bringing friends/family to induction night?

ha its similar in the Gardai bringing family is optional..be embarrassing though if not many are there alrite :o

    Hey,

got my medical next week. Bricking it!! I had a hiatus hernia a few years back but dont suffer from it anymore. Is that likely to go against me?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 60 ✭✭soozb82

Oh also can someone confirm if they are taking in small groups every 4/5 weeks? I feel very uninformed but I thought it was all in one go, once a year! I would feel a lot more hopeful if there are going to be further intakes! & can someone tell me about the allowance as well? What is that for? Is it just added to pay?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

From what I hear they have intakes every 4-5 weeks all year. So from this campaign there will be another 5 intakes or so i would imagine. They couldn't take in 440 people at one time.

    Congrats!!

When did you send off your vetting?

There is a Pdf file posted above which gives a list of medical conditions which might cause problems.

I think Hernias are fine as long as they are fixed.

I had one 2 years ago, Going to get as much additional info as i can so it doesnt cause delays, you should be fine.

Does anyone know after you get your medical fit for service letter.

How long on average have people been waiting until they got the call?

Also if they take in 50 a month that would mean an intake up to september!

Thanks goodcop, was such a relief to hear that yesterday, but didn't wanna get my hopes up! Oh well, back to waiting!

It depends really most people on here have had to wait about 1 - 3 months.

I think it really depends on the vetting and how quick that gets done.

All you can do really is wait it out, wait wait wait....

I heard you get to give a preference about where you'll finally end up posted, is this true? I take it they're not keen on people serving in the same district as where they live? What about serving in a district where they used to live years ago? I know you go where you go, but may as well ask! :D

You get to put down 4 choices, in order, of where you would like to be sent. You also get to put down any areas you would like not to be sent, with valid reasons of course.

Yes, must be me! thanks for telling me about all that, was straight on the computer and phone when I got home! not that it has really gotten me any closer, but it's quite reassuring (I hope!) Glad you did ok with Doc too!

    For psni or anyone else.

With regard to the vetting, say you have never even had a parking ticket.

What else would they be looking for that could rule you out?

    Hi there.

Yes, there's a new intake every 5 weeks. The "special allowance" is because you're in the PSNI. It's about £230 every month that's just paid on top of your salary.

Incidentally, you have just identified yourself to anyone from Recruitment that comes on here, by making your merit pool number public.

    And they do check. Often.

Thanks, talk about making me panic!!! Thank god you can remove things from here, have removed that post now, was only up a few hours. I didn't realise that would be a big deal! Thanks for letting me know

That's something the medical people will decide I'm afraid. I'm not a doctor so I can't comment. Anything I would have to say would be just speculation.

Are they planning on doing away with this allowance, do you know?

    Hi,
In response to an earlier post. I sent my vetting off for early January and only got a medical date this month. I don't think there is a set time.

So I get to put down four preferences? Are they looking for you to put down districts as your preferences, or specific stations? I take it the main reason you wouldn't be allowed to serve something is if you've lived there.

The only thing i can think of is on the application form i ticked weekends as apposed to evenings. Could this be why i have not got a date? Should i apply again or would it be better to phone? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
