Out of all the people on here posting, just wondering if anyone has or knows someone who has sent off vetting, passed medical and not been offered a place. It seems everyone who has passed the medical has got called up.

    Hi there,

I am in exactly that position, did medical last week and got word yesterday that i was deemed fit for service. Vetting forms sent off ages ago. What happens now??

Far as I know the next stage is a phone call when they want you to begin training. I think it depends on background and age and other factors when this is, I remember someone saying before that they want each intake to be balanced in age, sex, background.

All you can do is wait. After just doing the medical last week, i wouldn't panic just yet, they do take their time with these things.

Cool, how long ago was your medical? I assume that at this stage we can still get kicked out of the running of being offered a place? :(

I was referring to you having your medical last week. I haven't had a medical date yet, just sent vetting forms away not so long ago, so hopefully will get a date soon.

Im not sure how it works if you pass vetting and medical. In previous years everyone who passed assesment centre was vetted and given a medical, but according to their new guidelines to save time and money, only applicants who are going to be offered training get vetted now.

I still am clueless about how things work at this point, maybe you can get kicked out of the running. Its all a bit of guess work what they are up to really. It would be going against their new money saving guidelines to kick someone out who they spent money on vetting and giving a medical, but what do I know.

All will be revealed in time

thanks for the support gemmat1984,i phoned them a couple of weeks back and was told i was in final stages of vetting and wouldn`t be much longer, when i phoned today i was just told it`s still ongoing,my wifes dad was in army and had to vet people he said he always used to tell people they were in final stages so im beginning to think i have just been fobbed off

Hi all, just to let you know some of the info I obtained from recruitment. As I am currently serving in the forces I asked how long my entry date (if successful!) could be deferred. The lady said that they have draft dates pencilled-in up to 2010. Now I'm sure that these dates are scheduled for future campaigns, but reassuring to know that there's not a cut-off point. From earlier posts I read that the PSNI will hold your place whilst waiting on vetting. Don't stress, if you've made the grade you'll be ok.

You probably have been fobbed off, when I phoned today they said that a different dept deal with the vetting so the girl I spoke couldn't really give me any information unfortunately! I sent my forms off at beginning of january & I only have two younger siblings so who knows why things take as longn as they do!

it is a different department from recruitment, you have to speak to vetting section, their extension number came with your vetting form although it does say not to call although so far they have been pleasent enough

Goodcop, where did you find the guidelines? Wouldn't mind a wee read of them myself!

Hi im new to forum, my mate Ethan321 has just joined up...im in competition 14..will there be a new thread....so i can bore someone with questions?

    Thanks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 96 ✭✭Ethan321

Hey there Ed, hope all is well, will give you a ring over weekend.
There has been talk of a sub-forum, which in my opinion is a very good idea, though i think it should be a thread directly for campaign 14 and possibly entitled so.

For any of you getting in for the april intake, just a word to the wise, get your fitness and calf muscles up! Marching double time around the drill square in your boots will soon test your legs;)

    Howdy! :)

Had a look at this doc - seems pretty promising! However a little voice in the back of my head is telling me that it's not as simple as that - but perhaps i'm just preparing myself for the worst! The waiting is killing me

Would be fantastic if that doc is correct - but in the meantime i will just keep my fingers crossed :(

It does sound a bit too good to be true.

However there were people a while back who passed the assesment and then got Dear john letters a month or so after, which does show that these new guidelines are in place i.e in previous years passing the assesment meant automatically being security vetted.

Since these people passed and then were given dear john letters without any vetting or medical, the document does look to be correct.

    Again only time will tell.

    Congrats!!

When did you send off your vetting?

There is a Pdf file posted above which gives a list of medical conditions which might cause problems.

I think Hernias are fine as long as they are fixed.

I had one 2 years ago, Going to get as much additional info as i can so it doesnt cause delays, you should be fine.

Recieved the vetting forms a couple of days before Christmas. Went to see my own doctor today to get him to sign the forms and he doesnt think it should be a problem so fingers crossed!! I'll have a look through the Pdf file and see what it says.

So I get to put down four preferences? Are they looking for you to put down districts as your preferences, or specific stations? I take it the main reason you wouldn't be allowed to serve somewhere is if you've lived there.
Can anyone shed any light on this one?

I would have to agree with ethan (I started same time) and for the person who has broken their ankle - be careful - i know at the moment my ankles are sore - kinda feel the way it would when a sprain has just healed and my knees aren't much better. Don't want to put you off but it is hard work physically.

    Hello all,

So that’s week one down, lots more to go!
There isn’t much advice I can give apart from make sure your well rested before you go in. The first week was pretty much all long days and it may take a while to get used to your surroundings. Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster on the first day so get chatting to your new squad mates!

    Lethho who are you? :D

    Martin.

Hey Martin! What type of stuff are you doing in your first week? What clothes did you bring with you? PSNI said about bringing enough shirts and trousers for a week in case you didn't get a uniform on first day. How was it with you?

    Hey,

I can't really say too much about what we actually did, or at least I think I can't say!
Some things include lectures, PE (it’s not that bad if you have any level of fitness in the first week)
Group activities etc. Suffice is to say there’s a lot of introductions to subjects, new things to adapt and it’s very tiring.

I brought far too much in the way of clothes. All you really need is a few pairs of jeans, one suit (The one you'll be wearing), enough shirts/t-shirts for the evenings. If your uniform isn’t ready or some needs to go back like mine you’ll be wearing the corporate tracksuit as your uniform during the day. You’ll have very little free time in the evening’s so don’t be worried about bringing lots of fashionable gear etc.

If you check the thread in PSNI’s sig it’ll give you an idea what to bring, that’s pretty much what I adhered to for the most part.

A few simple things that I’ll be getting this weekend are one of those left/right handed lint brushes from the pound shop (they are much better than rollers) and one of those plastic storage things with trays to put in the bottom of my locker.

    Hi there,

Just interested to know, do you stay up there all week throughout your training? Or is there an option to go home in the evenings? I assume you get to go home at the weekends? Is their week Monday to Friday or does it vary?

Apologies for all the questions - great to get some answers from somebody who is actually there. Wish it was me!:o

Did you have to turn up on your first Sunday in your suit then? I'm just wondering what it's for. I start on 20th April, very nervous!

Hya m8 hows it goin for ya....at least the fitness wont go to waste! All is well at home and everyone sends their regards......this is a very useful site and I think a sub tread would be good for comp 14. That is providing all previous threads are read so we dont waste time with questions previously answered !

Anyway Ethan....get back to the parade ground......lol

As i said a mate has just joined up, his tip was to keep smart at ALL times....I know some will argue against this but I think it sets a good example(never know whos watchin!), also make sure your comfortable.

    Hope this helps.....
