Nah, nothing to worry about at all. The first couple of weeks are quite easy.

Hey Mic, a little nervous, but at the same time am glad that people have seen something in me to think im capable of it. At the end of the day im 35 years old, i have life experience on my side so dont think i will be too bad;)

Also starting on Sunday, I'm a little apprehensive!!! I'm almost 35 and even with life experience still feeling it; maybe it's a female thing!?

I know we will probably find out tomorrow, but does anyone know if we get any of the bank holidays, obviously I know we are in Monday but anyone know about Easter? I'm not worried either way but would just like to know!

    Nervous?

I'm cacking myself, had butterflies for days now.

I really must get round to packing at some point, maybe after the rugby later!

Chill out guys, I'm sure we'll be eased in over the first few days!

    Mrtin.

you have got nothing to worry about, everyone will be nervous im sure. Get the head down and you will be flying through the training in no time. Just think of the thousands of people who would love to be where you are right now, should motivate you!!! :D

Lettho, just remember that your as good as the next person, we are all there to do the same thing, in the classes there will be no such thing as peer pressure. Consensia saw something in you to put you through so take some confidence from that.
A little apprehensive myself but any change this big would make anyone apprehensive;)

Best of luck to those starting training. Though I didn't go through Garnerville, I did go through Hendon and initial police training is initial police training.....

My advice is don't worry too much about your first couple of weeks, you'll be broken in gently. Your head will spin a bit sure, but you'll make friends quick and the trainers will keep you on the straight and narrow. Ultimately, keep your boots bulled, your creases sharp, do your pre-reads...and above all else enjoy the social side. Remember the trick is to survive training school.

In my experience training school was tiring and exacting but ultimately a lot of fun. Make no mistake you will be challenged, no matter what your background; be it graduate/forces/other. And the best part? It doesn't matter what your background, some people take to coppering quicker than others, but ultimately you get out of it what you put in.

The good news? When you finish training school you get to relearn everything you've learned where it counts; the streets, operationally. This in itself is a lesson. This job is a continuous learning process. Get used to it.

Training school is good fun. Worry about what you need to worry about; exams, parades etc. But at the same time enjoy it and keep in mind that policing on the street is 9 parts common sense, 1 part Home Office approved jargon and what goes on at training school is usually far removed from reality ;-)

    Good luck and enjoy!

from what i remember they got back pretty quickly, but gave around 3 weeks to prepare.still waiting on word, but dont worry too much about timings, i think they want to see whether they'll be able to work with you to bring your time down.the pca is challenging, make sure you work your lungs well before goin in.

    good luck!

The intake date is April 20th - although am going to apply for a deferral cos I need to give notice in work here and finish, then move lock stock and barrel to Cork and hide everything in the folks' attic. So could take a while. But manageable if they don't give it to me.

Had applied for a youth work position with an NGO though - so am also waiting to hear back on that (cos that would have a slight edge on the PSNI for employment - youth work being the reason I went for police in the first place, not thinking I'd get a positon without a qualification and having a better chance working with police) but won't have to make decision till end week when have the application forms for PSNI, so plenty of time to panic about bulling boots and the like.

Delira tho - pints tonight in town methinks :)

Psni just out of interest, once you are in the psni, what are the oppertunities like to go off into different areas e.g. drugs.

Do you need to serve as a PC for so many years then apply for it and undergo specific training etc.

All you need to do is your 2 years probation, and then start applying for whatever interests you once your 2 years are done.

Thanks. Always wondered what way it worked

Seen a thing on tv last night where they were tracking down internet Pedofiles and then going under cover, arranging to meet them and exchange photos before finally taking them down and shutting down their website.

Seemed like a very satisfying job.

The training for self defense is based on american prison officer tactics, basically the inmates where training themselves on anti-handling technics, so they developed a system were the moves are based on common sense and major motor movements, (ever watched a driver trying to pump his horn in anger, and they can't because it is on the stalk off the steering wheel, (minor motor movement.)I could go on but the training is easy and builds confedence for confrontation situations).
