Thanks for the quick reply. thats all I wanted to hear, bought it. How long does shipping usually take?

It's an outlet system which means it's already built so it shouldn't take too long.

The outlet machines are ones that were already built and sent back, so there shouldn't be any delays. Should be about a week or less. Don't forget the outlet prices are ex vat until you add them to your basket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,809 ✭✭✭Stokolan

Yeah I figured that but even with VAT its a good price. If im not happy with it you'll probably see it on adverts within a week of getting it :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,706 ✭✭✭Voodu Child

Aye, I just meant what with this being the laptop deals thread, you should always post the actual price so as not to have your fellow bargain hunters getting confuzzled/disappointed ;)

And there's enough profiteers selling outlet machines on adverts as it is, just send it back if you don't like it :D

In most sales companies past orders can be checked up fairly easily, so thats one bluff that can be called fairly easily.
They most likely make good margin on higher end systems (like the xps) and even more margin on upgrades and extras. This gives them more leeway. Saying that I've never ordered off them on the phone so I could be miles off.
Thats pretty much spot on. For bargain basement stuff order online, using special offers and discount codes. For higher spec/margin machines pick up the phone.

    just hassle them like mad.
Call at the end of the month, be polite, saying you know what you want and you'll buy there and then if the price is right. You'll probably get you a better deal than the "hassling" approach.

by hassle i mean be persistent. They try to talk things off and divert it but keep at your point

I only wish I had known this when I bought my laptop from them over a year ago. Wish I had known about the outlet store and the ebay store too. It might have shaved a few quid of the €1700 price tag I paid for the yoke. Ah well older and wiser as they say.

Try hyming and hawing a bit as well when you hear the final price and say things like "it's a bit more expensive than I thought it would be" or something like that. If they can take a bit more off then they probably will.

Yeh Squall, that's a pretty decent deal alright. I added in a Core 2 Duo T5270 and it brings it to €531 delivered. Don't suppose there's any coupon codes out there that could bring that down even further?

305 into first box, N0215007 into second box, and start with www.dell.ie/epp for the extra employee discount of 3%.

On the cheaper option with celeron you can get €411 after EPP discount

Question - basically the difference for the extra is only the core 2 duo processor - on a laptop in normal use will this processor make a huge difference compared to the celeron - i.e normal response times etc?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 795 ✭✭✭johnnyboy4711

    542.79€
    what up with that?
celeron doesnt like vista too much i would imagine!!!
    thanks

It does make a difference & is worth getting. IMO, with a lappy it is always best to push your buget as far as it will go as you cant really mod it later.

you have to go all the way to the Basket for final price - add it to basket and the free delivery and epp discount are applied, don't worry you havent committed to buy.

Yes, but what "difference" - e.g progams load faster etc etc or is it just down to running 2 programs simultaneously etc...

I can't see what you are getting extra over the €468 laptop except for the extra gig of memory and a slightly bigger hard drive - is that worth a hundred euro? Or am I missing something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,033 ✭✭✭FrankGrimes

I got the same spec as mayto but with 120GB HDD and 2GB RAM for €468. I opted-out of the 3yr on-site warranty and that dropped the price by €130 - well happy with that price. Nice on to Squall for the details.

Anybody else having trouble ordering from dell online this evening?

I'm trying to order a XPS 1530, everytime i try to submit the final order it's going to an error page.

This particular deal finishes today and i'll be pretty pissed now if it doesn't work before 12, i'll have no comeback!

    looking at these 2 laptops:
    Inspiron 1525 - (N0352504) €529 without EPP
    Dual Core T2330 processor 1.60Ghz
    15.4' widescreen TFT

    Vostros 1500 - (N0315029) €460 without EPP
    Celeron processor M540 1.86GHz
    15.4' widescreen Truelife

rest of specs for both are same... 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, basic graphics card etc..

just wondering is there much difference in the processors and screen and which would you recommend for college student use i.e assignments/dvs/music/photos etc...

Since it's running vista, you're much better of having 2 Gigs of ram ... it'll be very slow otherwise.
