I didn't want to drag up the thread but I've had another problem with them. I tried adding another 3V voucher as a means of depositing money into the account. Next thing I knew my account was locked. Here's the amazing bit: They need two utility bills from me in order to reopen it!

    Crazy...absolutely bonkers service from them.

They want your IBAN and BIC. You will find these on your bank statement

Thanks for this info man. I was able to find them in the end on my AIB bank statement despite it being printed in what looks like size 6 font.

I wouldn't of had a clue what they were talking about if it wasn't for this post :D

Has anyone tried sign up to Halifax for their Visa Debit card? I've been meaning to pop in. There's a thread here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055179202&highlight=halifax

Looks good....do all I have to do to get one is open a current account with them? Also am I right that the duty is €10 per annum and that the ATM card doubles as the credit card?

They don't want the likes of us who only want the card for online shopping. They want 3 months bank statements and want to know what you had for breakfast. They are only interested in people who will earn them money.

I think I'll just go in and say I want to open an account but I'm not going to switch everything over from my current immediately so depending on my experience with them (including using the card) I might switch :)

Am i only one who had no problem with Wirecard? In fact, transferred in some money last Wednesday and showed up in my account on Thursday evening!

They won't talk to you unless you are going to switch everything to them. They only want existing current account holders only.

Touch wood, I have never had a problem either. Then again I only transfer via IBAN to them and keep away from those local accounts. And I have never had to verify.

    Same as.. only using IBAN.

    Never had to verify either.

Maybe a question too far but can I ask how you guys transfer the money? You use IBAN? So does that mean you have to go into your bank and make a transfer or can you do it via online banking? Ta!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

    I do online via AIB.

So basically you don't have to leave your computer in order to get money into your Wirecard a/c? You lucky sod! :p

I've had to get my account verified (two utility bills, photocopy of passport and a form filled in and endorsed by a solicitor), have to go into a BOI branch to deposit funds (Ulster Bank online banking doesn't support making payments !) and now need to send/fax two more utility bills to get my account unlocked. Sucks to be me :)

By the way did anyone notice 3V have changed things. Before, funds left over on your voucher were automatically redeemed. Now you have to manually redeem before the expiry date. I assume the funds are lost to you and go to 3V if you don't redeem. A little naughty....

Are you with AIB and use their online banking to deposit funds?

Christ, I seem to be with the only major bank who's online banking doesn't support it.

Well I got my money back after 105 days. Thanks Wirecard. You're so kind. Look forward to your explanation to Bafin as to why it took so long.

I'm with Permanent TSB and cannot do online IBAN transfers. Sucks. Won't be using Wirecard anymore anyway after they locked my account.

Is their an extra charge for using IBAN over the local accounts?

    I've never used it before.

AIB don't charge me a cent to use IBAN.

Cool thanks again for speedy reply. I just checked out on the online banking. I didn't realise it was so transparent on fee's for International transfers :D

Unlike other banks who are really only concerned about our welfare and peace of mind.
I opened a Halifax current account just to get the Visa card. It took about a month to be approved. The very first time I used the card it was refused so I complained and was told that some companies haven't updated their terminals yet. It's difficult to argue with that so I'll just have to wait and see. I have only used it once since but that was on a site which would have taken Laser so not a good comparison.

The thing about the terminals is bull tbh. Any merchant that is set up for visa can accept the visa debit card. I think your card was just not activated and they were covering their rears.

Are you still able to do chargebacks with a Visa Electron Debit card?

I'm worried about using my laser card online, as are some informed UK debit card users as you tend to have less comeback than with a credit card.

I would tend to agree but as I say difficult for Joe Soap to prove and not worth the effort. I had been and still am, using Wirecard without difficulty but thought that a locally accessible bank would be a better option. Remains to be seen.

How do I use IBAN to transfer money from my 365online account, to my wirecard account?

Nope. There is bugger all protection when using debit cards.

Where can you obtain a visa electron debit card in Ireland?

After a google search it seems there is a difference between visa debit and visa electron. Didn't know this. My mistake.
