Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Failed number 2 today, am peed off with myself bigtime :( I just keep doing silly things because i'm nervous.
Can't believe I have to do it all over again for a third time!!!

Slightly OT but how long do you guys have to wait for the next test? Is it fairly prompt?

Argh, failed today. There was a car literally parked at the roundabout in Cabinteely and a car came bombing off of said roundabout. Ended up clipping the parked cars wing mirror whilst trying to avoid that retard. Im going back now to take a baseball bat to it.

Just reapplied there. Had a good test otherwise. Only being driving in learner cars and got 4 grade 2's and 1 grade 1.

usually I know well (both when driving and elsewhere) when I've done a bad job but I actually believed that today's show was going to be a pass. Anyway I'm off to reapply again.

I felt exactly like that after I took the test for the first time - really thought I had done well enough, despite all the nerves.

Good luck with the next one. I was called for the second time in July, but I had hols booked, so I'm still waiting to be called again.

Failed my first test, got 9 Grade 2 marks, and 4 in a row on traffic lights - i was too hesitant, waited on filter light to go green instead of going when there was a break in traffic :( i was absolutely gutted after it. Due to going abroad for a year, i was a bit iffy about sittin my test the 2nd time, but i was so determined not 2 fail it again, and luckily enough i passed it.. but the test routes had been changed in the year and a few changes in the rules, so i'd advise anyone who fails to reapply straightaway and dont lose faith :)

I sat my test today in Deansgrange, second time doing it and have actually managed to get worse. I'm driving on my own for two years, have had around 30 lessons including pre-tests. Instructor thought I would pass both times. I don't know what to do, have re-applied already but can't believe I managed to get a worse result today than my first test. Apparently I observed too much today and thus got marks for reaction to hazards - looking in mirror rather than road ahead - last time I got lack of observation. I'm really upset - at this stage I have spent probably about 30x35=1050 on lessons (very reputable instructor - others I know have passed with), 3x38=114 on tests (just applied for third test) not to mention money spent on petrol when practising on test routes. I feel like giving up.

I know the feeling, i've failed twice as well. Mainly down to nerves on my part and messing up. I have had loads of lessons, have been driving confidently for 3 years but still managed to fail twice.
But i take comfort in the fact that there are people i know who one of them, had to do it 5 times and another person, 6 times to pass! So it can be done. Don't give up just yet! :)

Hard luck -avey-. :( At least it's better to be hesitant rather than doing something which is potentially more dangerous. Better luck next time.

wondering any one give me some feed back on this my brother just did his test in raheny, unfotuanatly he failed he was a bit suprised to fail.
The reason for my post is at the end of the test he did not get the tester sheet that he marked, he asked the tester why he had failed tester said he could not discuss this and a report would be posted out to him.

I thought that you always get the sheet that the tester marked so you can see what sections of the test you have to b rush up on. Just wondering anyone ever here of this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,518 ✭✭✭✭dudara

The tester can't discuss the test with the candidate, but I think that he should have been given the report. Perhaps it is to follow in the post?

My friend at work failed her test in Tuam last week, she got four X's for reaction to hazzards, she thought that she had passed and asked him why she failed but he would not discuss it. I am doing the test in Tuam next week and i was wondering what "reaction to hazzards" is? Is it overtaking parked vehicles? Our instructor told us to overtake if there is room to overtake when you are meeting another vehicle. She says that if she had waited she would have probably failed for holding up traffic.

It's difficult to say without being there but if she thought she had passed (and obvoiusly didn't) I would be inclined to think that there were potential hazards along the route that she was unaware of and therefore did not lead the examiner to believe that she was aware of them.

passed first time this morning in rathgar(even tough it has high failure rate)
    tester was grand
a few simple questions(what does dotted yellow line, 2 continious white lines etc.. a few signs, dangerous bend ahead etc..)
    hill start was grand
3 point turn was a 4 point turn.
a few grade2s on observation, & 1 thati failed to turn on demister

was driving for 2 years...god a lesson on sat and one on sun with ISM in ranelagh
    good instructors, would recommend them.
    best of luck to all

3 point turn was a 4 point turn.
4 turns is fine, as long as you don't hit the curbs and totally mess it up you can take extra turns no problem.

    Congratulations fellow first time passer.

3 point turn was a 4 point turn
 - Did you do the rest of the route in reverse? :D

(3,5,7,9,11 point turn - always an odd number ;))

Failed in Deansgrange today. 9 grade 2 faults. 2 of whcih were for reaction to hazards which I am annoyed about, said I was going too fast at 20mph when passing parked vehicles on a main road

  • Registered Users Posts: 588 ✭✭✭lucozader

Progress was a big problem. Said I went 2 slow coming up to roundabouts, too slow on straits at turns etc.

Thing is last time I was told I went too fast at all these, even though i never broke the speed limit.

Feel like I am getting contradicting advice from the Testers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 588 ✭✭✭lucozader

the test before this I went over I got 5 hazard mistakes

I was told i went too fast over speed bumps, they were the hazard mistakes, i went over in 2n'd gear at 20kph.

The last 2 tests before this were with SGS, i got a good explanation off the testers as to why i failed.

Todays tester refused to explain why I failed, was quite snooty about it

It seems there has been a policy change with SGS recently !

I notice that nobady has posted a failure from Naas test centre so I'll make it a first. Had my test around midday today. I wasn't very confident going into it, had 4 lessons/pretests around the area beforehand and I'd say that none of them went spectacularly well. But the test started off well and continued well until the very end, when the tester asked me to park beside the centre. Is anyone familiar with the Naas test centre?? The parking spaces provided are perpendicular to the main road and on a really steep hill and the individual spaces are poorly marked. So I pulled in, unfortunately quite crookedly, I must admit, and then I just bottled it in a feeble attempt to straighten the car. The tester was spot on to fail me, I don't have a problem with that, but I just keep looking back with hindsight, what if I had have reversed up or just left the car crooked, would I have passed then??? Otherwise, I only had 2 grade two faults, one for the clutch and one for observation when moving off, I think it takes 9 seperate grade 2 faults to fail, so I'm just gutted that I lost it on the last manouver. AGHH, frustration!!

Failed... I had no idea the lights changed so fast on the Dunkettle roundabout and broke them. First time ever breaking a red light and I did it during the bloody test. I am so angry at myself I could scream :( aside from that I only had a few grade 2s and would have passed. god I'm a total idiot :(:(:(

Just failed in Rathgar. I was prepared for how ignorant the testers were and I thought i was more than prepared for the drive but i got marked on things that i don't even understand. I drove around the course, felt pretty good but the guy kept ticking his box. Was very frustrating.
It really is a frustrating process, I was not happy at all after. Really does make you wonder how they expect to get the L drivers off the road if they fail them for almost anything.

I acquired 3 grade twos for positioning on the straight, i have no idea how that happened. There were a couple of other ones that I am clueless about. Its very hard to put anything right when I don't know what the problem is.

Breezed through the pretests as well aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh phuck it !!!

As far as I can see there is a lot of luck involved. Do you get a nice tester or don't you. I had a nice tester, I didn't react properly to a pedistrian who came out of nowhere to cross the road, he told me that he had to think hard about not giving me a grade 3 but thankfully I only got a grade 2. A tester who talks to you about your driving after the test is sound, If he says "The reasons you failed are on the Test sheet...Goodday to you"..........say no more!

Indeed she may have, but she is going against RSA regulations:

"Testers should refer the applicant to the faults which have been recorded on the Report Sheet, and which contributed to the test result. However, testers should not discuss the details of the test."

Mainly reaction to hazards and progress on roundabouts.
Not entirly sure where I went wrong with reaction to hazards. People walked out in front of me a few times so I slowed way down to show I saw the hazard.
And how do you make good progress on a roundabout when nobody uses their indicators.
It was my first test, will reapply right away.

Gutting. 13 Grade 2's. But the majority of them were for things relating to clutch, gears and overshooting my right turns. Only had 1 fault for observation which was what my instructor had been berating me about. Kinda frustrating that I got a fault for following his advice on one thing though-he told me that after the reverse around corner, if I'm turing left back around the same corner when moving on again, I needn't indicate right when pulling out, and can just indicate left immediately. Well I did that, and no surprises for the fault I received for that. Kinda irritating. Ah well, put my re-application back in and hopefully I'll get it before March.

There may have been other hazards that you missed and should have reacted to. ;)

When you slowed down for pedestrians on the road, did you make any gestures to them, e.g. to indicate to them that you were 'allowing' them to cross?

Worry not fellow failures, I just blew my 3rd attempt. First 2 in Finglas with same tester both times  but Raheny today, decent guy but got loadsa marks on "Progress on the straight" (which I'm assuming is driving too slow...rofl) and this "Reaction to hazards" gets me everytime.

Man I give up. I did do that online ISM pretest thing and studied all the videos but next time I'll probably be recruiting the services of an instructor to share my woe...and the blame :o

Keep at it mate, I've done it four times now and have my fifth coming up.

Position turning and clearance on overtaking were my big ones. Two of the testers I've had gave advice afterwards - and it has improved my awareness of things a lot.

Remember going in next time you've had more experience of 'the test' so you can calm down and concentrate on your driving - compared to many of the other candidates.

Failed my first test in Cork (sarsfields road) yesterday. Thought it went well but the fact I'd only been driving for 2 weeks came against me - got badly done for not being smooth on the accelerator / clutch.

just failed in Kilkenny [first go] - 10 grade 2's mainly for reaction to hazards and speed. The two things I thought I'd mess up was mirrors and the old reverse around the corner and they were fine. Got taken up high street [main street in kilkenny] at lunch time when all the school kids were running around everywhere so not surprised I got caught for hazards

Gutted but seems to have been a bad auld morning for it here three people ahead all failed [talked to one, the other two it was clear they'd failed] and a guy who started the same time as me failed, not sure about the other person as they weren't back, hopefully they passed someone should today.

Failed in Wicklow this afternoon. Basically, I didn't make any serious mistakes and in my oppinion it wasn't too bad. There were little things I did on the route which I need to sort out. But the balance between what's right and what's wrong is very thin. I did pre test on the same route just hour before my test and I passed it without any problems. So when I was doing a real test I drove as I did on my pre test but he saw some mistakes. For my instructor and for myself those things weren't bad but normal. So it also depends of examiner. For some of them your way of driving is fine and for some of them it will be marked as a mistake. Unlucky day for me.
