In your original message I read “rate” not “tariff”.

They don’t say what happens when the tariff expires… definitely they are making more money of the other tariffs.

the distinctive combo of EV 2-5 with the 25c FIT “rate” is what makes this tariff the best. Once the 25c goes down, am going elsewhere, this wouldn’t be competitive.

When I resigned up last October they told me the website was stating 24 months contracts but they were all 12 month ones.. I chatted to them on the phone.. I guess it was a total outlier in the market so days are numbered. Hopefully they leave existing customers on it after the 12 months are up..

Started on it at the end of last month. That EV plan was one of the reasons I went and got panels on the house. Happy to have gotten at least 12 months out of it, but it's very unlikely they'll leave people on it when the contracts expire. Companies have these plans to hoover up market share and when they reach that, they'll terminate the plan.

Is their FIT still 25c per kWh on their other plans or has that changed also?

Yeah just called them on the phone as well and I signed up last Nov. I confirmed with them I have a 24 month contract and they will honor that for the 24 months…phew! now when it comes to this coming Novemeber will they try and squirm out of it… but I will make hay for this summer anyway.

Surely people are currently out of Contract and are on EV Plan , Have any of these customers been contacted and what is going to happen to them ?

I only signed up to the deal last month, hopefully have a good year of it and then will switch.

When I re-signed ast September, after expiry of a 24 mths, they were offering me a 12 mth, but I asked for another 24, as I wanted to lock them into supplying me power at those rates.

There has been a lot of talk around Pinergy in the Solar forum over the past month, and most was talk around staying with them until winter.

So it is very possible that Pinergy have pulled it due to the sudden surge in signups.

And if they got wind of the possibility of large numbers suddenly leaving around November, they might be giving themselves time to access everything, including their exit fees and any clauses

The large amount of people taking the cheap EV and 3 hr rate to fill up their batteries is something they've got wind of I'd imagine, others will do the same. All they have to do is read social media and posts like on here to see themselves being sucker punched. Maybe they'll come back with a good 3 hr rate and EV rate but with proof of it being for an EV. Shouldn't be too difficult to do in this modern IT age we're in.

I was planning to sign up to pinergy to avail of their night rate, but alas, that won't be happening now.

The power companies still make money on night rates, as they pay next to nothing for the unused power.

What's the current best alternative with 2-3-4 cheap night rate and comparable FIT rate?

Looking at the rates Im thinking Flogas is next best…..certainly they have next cheapest EV rate and its for 3 hours. Energia have this over usage rate and Im sure most people on this thread woudl blow that out of the water every 2 months.

Its now getting into the terrority of Im thinking these new dynamic enerey tarrifs which are supposed to be coming in next week!!! might be ok now…depends on the yet to be seen mark up they put on the Day Ahead price and do they give you the DAM prices for your export…but they might not be so bad now

    image.png

Got Gemini to anaylse the DAM half hour prices for the last 12 months, got it to check the average during the winter months and the summer months. The average lows at night are in anad around 8-9 cent but for longer periods…but again thats not including the markup which could be 2-3 cent?? wait to see in the next week ot two I presume when the usppliers come out with their plans.

they can just cap it at 21kwh over 3 hours at x and anything over that at y

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 358 ✭✭Pat734

Yes, they may all do this. Can't really blame them to tell you the truth

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,347 ✭✭✭irishchris

I'm out of contact for over two years with pinergy and still on the EV plan. Never had any contact in relation to signing up again and no contact to bring removed from it. I wouldn't worry for now people

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,163 ✭✭✭TimHorton

You are not locked into any rates , Pinergy could treble their rates tomorrow and also reduce FIT to 1c and there is nothing you can do about it. All you can do is leave the contract without penalty.

It's the same as every other supplier.

Yes the rates aren't fixed but the way the EV plan was created is that the EV rate was a certain percentage off the standard rate. To increase rates as it's regulated there is proper notice to be observed. That's why we seen the EV rate rise, when the standard rate went up.

Pinergy has ended up being one of the better suppliers to be "out of contract" with as there's no discount to stop and the plan just keeps rolling.

Until notified otherwise, current EV plan customers might end up being on an grandfathered plan, maybe for a while.

I did feel the EV plan days were numbered though, as it was only on a rare occasion that the wholesale rate over night even dipped below the EV rate.

I always got the impression that Pinergy customer base was largely homes/people on PAYG meters. Anytime I spoke to customer services, I always got the impression I was unusual for not being PAYG! Their PAYG rates are horrendous, so I always felt we were being subsidised by those customers. We're planning on moving home this summer. I wonder will they allow me to move the plan as I'm still under contract for another 6 months! I uploaded my usage to Kilowatt.ie and annual is negative for Pingergy on the EV plan and just shy of €600 on the next best Flogas one so it just shows what a seriously good deal it is/was.

Why would pinergy even care not like they pay us for the export doesn't that come from the taxman? And I would hazard a guess 95%+ of their customers are using the silly price per kwh and not the EV rate only.

    image.png

Saw this breakdown as well earlier, doubt suppliers only take a 10% cut…

Of the suppliers, as they do the billing and dealing with people… I could see it being around 10%

    this is the ESBN charges

    image.png

thats on top of the wholesale rates.

Wonder if pinergy are having some cashflow problems. Might not be but also coincides with their removal of their loss leading ev plan.

Weeks after requesting a refund of my large balance and no sign I had to contact them again and got the below.

    Thank you for your email.
At this time, we are currently facing an issue which has delayed the refund requests for our customers

Do you know for certain the EV plan was loss leading? Just because it was profitable for consumers doesn't mean they were taking a hit on it.

I was hoping to switch the house in Dublin to them this month, but even though we already have an apartment with them it was no go.

Might have to stay with Energia for Dublin even though they are only offering 10% discount this year not the 15% from last year.

Was looking at this Flowgas deal which although the EV window is only 3 hours the night rate either side of it is not the worst should you need it.

FIT is still same 18.5 cent as Energia and there's no increased EV rate after 1000 units, just need to get the second rectifier in and working.

Gas is also cheaper than what we are currently paying with Energia so there's a small saving there also.

None on ESB Networks site for me either though so may be just ESB problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 199 ✭✭Jo Satan

I just got an email from customer care saying there was a technical reason for the delay in refunding FIT.
They said payment will be processed shortly and they are paying an extra €60 as compensation.
    Gotta be happy with that.
