last time I lived there, I cycled 100-120km a week. Lifted 3-4 times a week and put on 10kg of fat in a year

    so I should be fine.

Not really off topic but was in a gym today and noticed the below as an attachment for a cable machine, never seen one before. Wondering what the handles are for that I’ve pointed out in pic or what exercise would this be used for?

just looks like a 2-in-1 attachment. Combines a straight bar with a Double D Handle.

    New country, new gym.

No RDLs. No fucker has a towel.

The music is so quiet I can’t actually tell what song is on. Is that worse than loud? Yes. I can hear people's conversations. My neurodivergent brains can’t filter.

Some lad bought too many pineapples

I’ve been struggling to figure out the connection with RDLs and Towels.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 23,165 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

Apparently you can have both or none.

But then I saw people doing RDLs.

    If you get me.

My surprise tonight is all the people in street clothes working out. One lad looks like he stepped out of his last sales meeting and intent gym.

    Where’s the comfort lads.

Has anyone tried vegan/pea protein? I bought it solely for the price.

They are, but not as comfortable as my gym clothes. Or being naked.

Is the bioavailability of the protein in peas, lower than that in whey? Does that only count for whole peas v whey?

I can't eat legumes, so I wonder if this would destroy my gut the way they do.

Tried pea protein once. Tasted like veggie skin. Might be only with a strong flavour like double chocolate or something.

Ya looking at the price it's clearly not selling.

    Got ninja icecream maker, amazing

My gym's members are pretty damn well behaved, so I only ever post in the annoying behaviour after training in other gyms.

That said, they put out a notice recently that nobody's allowed to exercise in jeans because the padding on the bench has been torn from them. Don't know how many people that was directed at.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 23,165 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

Just to be clear, none of my observations annoy me. They are just observations I find humorous or unusual.

The one thing that really annoyed me in the Netherlands was people never putting the weights back. The gym floor was like and obstacle course. This included leaving the bars loaded in racks. Infuriating. I don't see this at all in the US, the gyms are lovely and tidy. People even stack the weights in the right order, heaviest at the bottom to lightest. lovely

They just don't want RFK Jr training there but didn't want to say that

    Wasteful no?

I’m fascinated by the people I see spending minutes spraying and wiping machines before they use them. I’d hate to be this worried about germs.

Question for the hoodie wearers: why? Doesn’t wearing your headphones over the hood ruin the sound quality?

I dunno, you put it in the dedicated bins and perhaps it's recyclable.

Actually they just got rid of the paper towel and now they provide wipes, as they upgraded the whole gym with equipment that has some kind of sweat resistant material. Not sure how that works, where does the sweat go! People don't seem to wipe down as much as they used to now.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 23,165 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

    Even recycling means waste.

I don’t get the sweat phobia though.

It’s come up before. I don’t get it either. It’s just sweat, fresh sweat at that.

You touch more sweat and bollox fingers on every door handle, bus handrail etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭Quiet Achiever

You might get a couple of wears out of your gym gear if you aren't soaking up other people's sweat, if you haven't been working up a big sweat yourself.

Also people can be a bit paro about germs, if they have their own health things, vulnerable family members etc.

And sometimes it's mice to wipe a wet seat rather than plonk yourself down on sweat that seeped from someones balls and ass.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 23,165 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

I put a towel down to soak up any sweat I might leave behind. I call that considerate.

If you wear gym gear twice, it’s likely you stink on the 2nd wear due to bacteria growing in the old sweat. Fresh sweat doesn’t stink old.

That is considerate if you, kudos.

I Did say wearing gym clothes a second day if you haven't worked up a sweat

Few rowing records on the erg have gone lately. The latest was Simon van Dorp clocking 5:33 for a 2k.

It's only about 3 weeks since Ollie Zeidler was being feted for taking over a second off the old record and dipping below 5:35.

    Insane pace.
