Won't have it easy against tooreen in the final. Experienced team who apparently take their hurling very seriously. And plenty will have played in croke park with mayo.

Only narrowly beaten by monaleen in the final a few years ago in a cracking game.

I respectfully disagree. I'm biased since I'm from a footballing town but in my opinion think it's a way better idea for the footballers to play their home league games at the Clonmel Sportsfield instead of Semple - since Thurles isn't as popular* with attendances, unfortunately.
*I don't know the exact figures, but it seems pretty barren in Thurles whenever a Tipp football game is live on Clubber app/TV.

With Coolmore gifting 14 acres beside Semple Stadium to the Tipp County Board I believe that Thurles should be our fortress. Ideally placed in the middle of the county with two motorways running on either side and a great rail service to all big population centres gives all Tipp fans a great opportunity to attend the games.

By the way I am also from Clonmel.

Where's best for parking in Clonmel amárach? The last time I was at a match there was so long ago my father was in short pants!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,218 ✭✭✭julyjane

If you get there early enough you might get parking along the western road but beware of Lidl they sometimes clamp. A lot of people park in aldi for matches but again that might be frowned upon. The road running along the back of the sports field has some on street parking too

    Thanks @julyjane

Hurling gsme moved from clonmel to fethard due to pitch issues

Great win by Upperchurch in an excellent game.

Fair play to Toureen who despite being from Mayo are well able to hurl. Great effort from both sides going to extra time.

Easkey of Sligo impressive also and unlucky to not get over the line. Show's that there's pocket's of hurling in Connaught outside of Galway, only a pity they don't get more support.

Yeah but Toureen have a bit like the Mayo footballers let another All Ireland slip through their fingers... Amazing really how some teams can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory...

EEaskey player That was red carded can feel very very hard done by

Aah now, that point to force extra time? All day every day that was out of scoreable range. Couldn't say that Toureen choked or threw it away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,656 ✭✭✭awaywithyou

It was a great score to level game.. it had to go over or else his team were bet.. he showed alot of mental strength for sure but I wouldn't say it was out of scoreable range.. didn't yere county keeper score a point from even further than that in all ire final…

No but they'll be wondering how it took them until 20 minutes to get going. Then next 15 minutes everything they hit went over.

Just home after an enjoyable evening in Thurles. Ya the conditions were poor, the hurling was sloppy in places, but the small lad got a pic with his hero and we got off to a winning start in the league. Great to be getting back in to the swing of thing.

Yeah good contest to be fair. Tipp never really got out of second gear but had to rise it to put Galway away. Galway some nice young players in fairness.

Jake was outstanding, they were trying to foul him anytime he was on the ball. O Reilly so composed at the back, that flick was unbelievable. Seamus Kennedy point was a thing of beauty.

Thought the level was good despite being late back. Offaly in Tullamore on Sunday should be a good test again and maybe a chance for one or two newbies to stake a claim. It's shocking weather but this is where the young lads need to show it.

Tipp lucky enough to get a point in Ruislip yesterday. London may rightly feel they threw it away.

Tipp showed great heart, a deserved draw. Looks like the new manager is the right man for the job.

Niall Fitzgerald has explained that Tipperary’s decision to return their National Football League fixtures to FBD Semple Stadium followed an assessment of recent performances.

Last season was the Premier County’s first since 2008 operating outside of Thurles for the majority of their home fixtures. Clonmel Sportsfield hosted two of their three home league games, while a request to switch the Munster quarter-final against Waterford to the southern venue was refused by the provincial council.

New manager Fitzgerald has chosen to return to Semple Stadium for their four home league fixtures, beginning with the visit of Antrim on Sunday, February 1st, after examining the metrics underlying their performances last year.

“You're measuring in terms of getting the ball into the opposition half, in terms of how many turnovers, what your unforced turnovers number is, how we did on kick-outs, all those things, and that formed part of our decision,” Fitzgerald revealed.

“It's very simple. The metrics were better in Semple Stadium, and that's why. While they picked up one or two results, the actual metrics in terms of performance were better in the stadium, so we took that into consideration.

“Look, we're not going to be the biggest physical team. We're going to be a young team, and we will have a lot of pace, so we're going to try and play to our strengths.”

The argument for bringing games away from Thurles centred around the bounce given to opposition teams playing at the 45,000-capacity stadium versus the tighter confines of club grounds in the county’s football heartlands.

“Semple Stadium is where you want to play. It's not like you're going down to Clonmel and you're having four or five thousand people there. You're not,” Fitzgerald continued.

“At the end of the day, we want to play a brand of football where we're going to go at teams, and we're in a better place to do it at Semple Stadium.”

Tipp’s upcoming Division 4 campaign starts a week earlier with a trip to London on Sunday.

“The league 100% is the priority. That's where Tipp are at the moment,” said Fitzgerald.

“You can talk about the championship and all that, but the National League and Tailteann Cup, that's our level at the moment, so that's where we're setting our targets.

“It's not simple. Every other team there will fancy their chances of getting promoted. There's no easy games.

Looking forward to this one, 8 changes from the Galway game.

Interesting to see Gearoid O Connor back after an extended break. Big opportunities for McCormack and Leamy inside, these are the games were they need to impress. I'd imagine Cathal O Reilly will track Screeney.

Offaly were impressive in Nowlan park so this should be a good test.

Willie Conners captain, well deserved, absolute warrior.

Was watching the Harty Cup final, that Eoin Doughan is going to be some talent for Tipp coming through, the standout player amongst some excellent prospects. Midfielder with black helmet, some engine

Austin Duff, some workhorse, that's his second Harty medal.

Good wins today in both games. Nice to see a few new names on the hurling team of the day and I'd say the big names that were rested will be needed next week.

He still has something to offer Tipp.

Is it true he's no interest in playing county?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,400 ✭✭✭newhouse87

Tbf he's getting on and has big job up that side of the country. To win munster medal and get to 2 all.ire semifinals surpassed his expectations I would imagine .
