    You beat me to it.

3rd USB stick and it worked.

    You are an absolute star.

Age since I set one up but will have a go and hold all questions until tomorrow.

    Thanks so much again

    Great you got sorted.

Usb sticks were always a curse with enigma 2 receivers and have used 8gb Integral , Kingston , and Cruzer with no issues.

Swoofer, I have to say it - you are the most helpful person I have ever seen on Boards (and there are lots of very helpful people here). I think I speak for all of us here when I say that it's hugely appreciated.

This is the link and it shows how to start from scratch its post 30. If you follow that you end up with a neat arrangement.

Just to again say thanks so so much.

I thought the box was a goner and once got that recovery file and the usb working all was perfect.

Actually enjoyed setting it up from scratch late that night and most of it came back to me and then the following day your excellent guide was super helpful in doing any tweaks I has missed.

    Can't thank you enough.

I've been getting this message pop up a few, times recently, any ideas? If you click cancel it seems to restart the UI. If the box is recording at the time it stops and restarts the recording.

I never had that but maybe you have it enabled to delete seen videos and automatically runs to delete them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,534 ✭✭✭✭Alun

I don't recall anything like that in the settings but I'll take a look tomorrow. I've certainly not changed anything recently.

Go into your deleted folder and press menu and see if anything differs

I Only delete my trash can MANUALLY.

On your screen shot you seem to have the trash can disabled by the looks of things, otherwise my settings are the same.

can you say image and version you are using? Have you downloaded any unusual plugins? and do you use deep standby and timeshift.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,534 ✭✭✭✭Alun

Image is 6.7.017 now, updated this morning, assume it was .16 before. No unusual plugins. I do use deep standby, mainly because the normal standby isn't really standby at all, useless, may as well leave the thing on 24/7. Don't use time shift.

Anyway, it's just all of a sudden started doing this, and has been working for ages without such messages appearing. The only thing that's happened is that we've been on holiday for 2 weeks, and there were a lot of recordings, but the disk still has 85% free, do nowhere near full.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,942 ✭✭✭swoofer

I never use deep standby but all boxes are well ventilated. By updating you may have sorted it. You can turn it off , menu, setup system, customise, see task warning on shutdown, default is yes but try no.

Keep an eye if it comes back you will need to go to WOS.

Anyone else having issues with the EPG (for UK channels ) not updating?

Using openvix 6.7.010 (Release) and simple 10 eighty
using OpenTvEPG downloaded where enable is set to yes

    And schedule scan to auto

    With an interval of 3

edit 12.03am I can do the blue button manual update it’s just not auto updating and is blank.
I just saw that the internet cable was plugged out but I thought the epg came from the satellite rather than internet.

I am only on 6.7.001 and working and using simple 1080.

Is your epg getting loaded to usb or hard drive to save.

If i have to do a cold reboot i go to the IEPG channel for a few minutes to populate my channels. This is on sat 28.2

Saorview usually loads on RTE after a min or 2

We're moving house shortly.. it'll take a while to get satellite dish connected up etc.We have 100s of hours of recordings on the zgemma box. Can these be played to tv even without connection to a satellite dish ? I know could disconnect the cable to test but had such hassle getting connected day 1, dont want to risk anything now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,903 ✭✭✭Charles Slane

Yes, you can watch your recorded programmes - the box doesn't need to be receiving a satellite signal to watch recordings because they're not encrypted.

@patk1894. Do this, go menu setup, recordings, playback&timeshift. Where it says recordings always have priority chnage to no and save. green button. exit . under Opentvdownload, change, update interval to 24 save.

Then go menu standby & restart and select reboot.

Once rebooted go blue forced download and wait.

I would also check that you are gtting a signal and at tuner A and B and when you go from A to B pause.

    Report back.

Brilliant, thanks so much again @swoofer

    Much appreciated.

Did the blue button force update last night and the EPG was still there today.

HHowever did all those steps so waiting now to see will it stay over next few days.

Signal on both tuners - maybe not as strong as it used to be but that's for another day.

I'm seeing a funky behavior to do with updating or booting from slot 4.

1st of all, I havent really spent any time yet searching for answers - I should get time today or next week.
2nd, the box continues to function fine as a server on the network.

I havent narrowed this down yet so the "whats causing it" is a bit vague but a day ago I downloaded an latest version of 6.7 and installed that to slot 4. The reboot happened and I chose to reload the backed up config - including plugins.

on boot up I get the splash screen but then nothing. Occasionally I might see some video signal corruption (like the wrong video signal is being sent to the TV)
And as I mentioned I can use the box via Kodi and the webui is available.

The weird thing is, I remember this happening once before when I tried to install another image into slot 4. (I think it was 4)

So the quick questions I have is:
Anyone know of issues when all 4 slots have an image loaded? like a capacity issue or something?
Which logs might I look at on the box to get more clues?
what's the safest way to mark a different slot as active and boot from it in the shell?

Of course, I will go searching the internet or asking one of those stupid AIs when I get time. :)

    Thanks.

So I narrowed things down a good bit, but still don't understand what is going wrong. I do have things working though so I'm grand for now but if anyone can shine a light on what might be happening I'd be interested!

I was able to manipulate which image to boot from by copying the one I wanted to /boot/STARTUP which gave comfort to try a bunch of things…

I had been running an early vix 6.6 in slot 3 (PiP mode) this was working without graphical issue.
I tried flashing the same 6.6 image to slot 1 without restoring anything (no settings or plugin) and this seemed to work OK until the video output screen where I saw the same issue when 2160p60 was selected. even though that is the output resolution on the working slot3 image.

After a bit of fiddling (maybe a few boots into other slots before coming back to a boot into slot 1 again) It seemed to come right?? e.g. it booted into the next step in the setup wizard without graphical issue. I was then able to complete the wizard to get channels etc.

So I had a "clean" build on 6.6 working in slot 1 and the old config of 6.6 in slot 3

I then tried booting to the Kodi mode of 6.7 that was previously flashed to slot4 including restoring of config and plugins, and this worked fine!

All a bit weird I think.
It seems related to refresh rate but kind of doesn't at the same time.

The glitch (pic above) can look like over scanning or end up being a blank screen all together.

    At least its ok now.

My H7S settings on box and i have a 4k tv , no overscan or upscaling on tv.

Did you try another better hdmi port and cable when powered off.

Recheck f connectors are good and no water ingress.

I dont use Kodi as it sucks dont work well on these boxes.

Oh crap, the box crashed when I was watching tv and now this is all I can get it to do after multiple reboots! What can I do please?

Ah Jaysus nevermind Im an idiot, Sky News needs retuning and it was on Sky News so every time I rebooted it stayed on that message, all I had to do was change channel!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,942 ✭✭✭swoofer

I’ll tell you tomorrow how to set start up channel as bbc1 and as that won’t change should help if box crashes again.

Not sure if you will see this but here goes

Open BBC1 and arrow up, then press menu , see menu, 1 = set as start up. press ok and select the option. ok. exit out and then go back in and it should now say stop etc.

Crashes are not good but it should now boot to bbc1.

Swoofer - like a previous question, I'm running OpenVix6.2 on a zGemma H7, and I've inadvertently removed the Movie Organiser plugin from my Plugins. I can't find it from the Downloadable Plugins list. Do you know where I can find it to get my programs into a manageable state?

    Thanks!

Can you tell me the skin you are using? Go menu information about. And is it definitely called Movie Organiser?? Mine says movie manager.

And go to plugins, then press red, it wont do anything but show plugins installed, go to extensions and see if its in there.
