would need the version in use, can you do menu information about. Also do you know how to flash an image to another slot? you could try openatv. The ssd could be gone, have you a spare to try?

How do I set up recording device as ext4? I haven't come across anything resembling ext4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,891 ✭✭✭swoofer

egal I can only help when I have sufficient information. You cant do anything with ext4 when SSD is not recognised and it may be a software problem. The latest version of vix is 6.7.011, I'm on 6.6.012.

Sorry, swoofer, I don't understand. And, anyway, my box is not connected to the Internet. We'll have to leave it there, then. Thanks again for taking an interest.

Would be handier if you had an internet connection

If I had an internet connection would that help solve my problem? Bear in mind that I'm a novice when it comes to these things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,087 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Yes it makes life handier as to download images straight to box and flash new images to box from remote.

That box has 4 slots and would flash a new image to a different slot and maybe then your storage device is seen and works again.

Thanks swoofer and greasepalm for all your interest and help. Bearing in mind that anything too technical would be beyond me, I contacted World of Satellite and, following advice from them, I "initialised" the HDD and got it working again. I lost all my recordings but, hey, the box is recording again so I'm a happy camper. Thanks again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,087 ✭✭✭greasepalm

That is why we suggest to reflash an image to another slot to check first.

Is 11023 H DVB-S2 23000 3/4 known to be weak? can never get BBC News on my box/dish and always wondered if just an alignment issue (direction or skew). Using standard Sky dish that was installed by them previously for Sky+HD.

Also any availability for a new H7S. See out of stock on WOS. Want to install a 2nd box in the house. (have 4 sat feeds from dish so wanted a 2nd fully stand alone box)

there are 12 channels on that transponder but loss of signal, can be dish, lnb output, and skew. Can you see what you get if you use signal finder and the above frequency. Signal is very strong on zgemma H7S. 18.5 DB. See if you can get BBC1 WALES HD.

Zgemma h7s is no more. look for secondhand.

Check satcity.ie in limerick they appear to have them in stocks according to their website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 741 ✭✭✭Darando

Thanks. No signal at all on that one transponder.

No more H7S :( Was literally ready to order an extra box a few months ago but life got in the way!

What options now with sat and terestial combo? I saw a few options but never had the DVB-C/T2 option in stock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,087 ✭✭✭greasepalm

No idea but wondered if twin sat and if box had more than 1 usb port and using a supported dvb/c/t2 dongle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,816 ✭✭✭Sir Osis of Liver.

    I got the H17 as a secondary box when I couldn't get the H7.

It's as quick as the H7.

Only issues I have with it are it doesn't have the internal hdd slot and for some reason the only image I can get to work both Sat and Terrestial is OpenATV.

    Currently not supported by VIX.

Still,it's doing what I need, grand little box so far.

As mentioned check sat city for h7s. Have you a dect phone? Can you try different inputs on lnb? Check cables on box ie unscrew and swop. If you can reach dish, pull the edge left or right but you have to weight about 10 seconds for signal to reach receiver. Have you anther lnb? And any trees in way, leaves can block signal. Its such a strong signal should be easy to get it back.

Sir osis if boxes on same network you can access recordings on H7S and I would use a usb stick for epg on h17. Glad you got it sorted.

    Hello Swoofer.

Yes,H17 sorted thanks and have the usb for epg etc.I don't bother with recordings much.

Probably not as good a box as my H7 but a vast improvement on the H82H I had.

Seems all the H7S available on the interwebs now are going for an average €200+ now its discontinued.

Such a shame for what was a great value little bit of kit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 741 ✭✭✭Darando

Thanks, dish is too high up to check things, clear sight of sky and no trees. I'll try a few other things on the cables now I know it should be a strong signal. Strange that it is only that transponder.

    have you a dect phone?

Nope. Only devices are some smart devices that use ZigBee..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,891 ✭✭✭swoofer

Usually the loss of one frequency means some type of interference and DECT phones are known to cause problems or if cable was down a cavity and near electrical cables that can cause some as well. But checking the dish and lnb is necessary as a minor tweak may fix it or a new lnb.

Seems to be that the only combo boxes selling now are the higher end Gigablue and VU+

I see WOS have both , though in limited supply , and are taking pre-orders for stock arriving in July.

They have the DVBC/T Tuner module for the VU+ available also.

I wouldnt order from them though , the customs handling fees are sky high.

Most boxes they are selling now are IPTV boxes.

Given that Astra is approaching end of life and no replacement has been announced yet , we may well be stuck with Saorview only or dodgy boxes in this country come 2029.

Is the Amiko Triple tuner no longer available/not suitable?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,501 ✭✭✭andy1249

Indeed it is , but its a very poor box compared to an E2 box.

Proprietary OS which cannot be changed , only now and next for satellite channels , i.e. no 7 day epg , etc.

Makes recording very difficult. Its not really any better ( in fact in terms of EPG its worse ) than using the tuners already on most TVs , so kind of pointless.

Is there a quick way to copy all channels from various bouquets to my favourites bouquets? Don't see an option in Openwebif.

I set the box up a long time ago and was manually updating the bouquets when a returned of a channel was needed. ABM was turned off as it was updating the standard Entertainment/Music/Children/News etc as it should. I just didn't understand bouquets at the time so the manual return was easy.

Now I'd rather turn ABM back on to save the manual retune when needed and just use the favourites to have all the channels I want (which will auto refine correct?) but I don't see an option to drag them into favourites in bulk.

I use this program on my desktop, fairly straight forward once setup: https://dreamboxedit.com/en/foreword/

My box is out of warranty so I decided to open it up for a look. It always annoyed me how far out the SSD drive protruded from the rear so I flipped it around, saves a bit of room depending where it is setup.

I think the reason it sticks out is for ventilation ie overheating, are you leaving the lid off😂
