No think Hannon was finished with County football at that stage. Nesty Smith was the other player. Smith was a good winter footballer but struggled when pitches were firm. No pace.

Fair play to Kingscourt. Unreal for Faulkner. He took some amount of off the ball abuse.

Went in as a neutral but ended up delighted to see Kingscourt win ,with all Gowna’s off the ball antics,

Colm Kelly has done some job, there, so well set up and their long kick passing on turnovers/on the counter was a joy to watch… They tore the Gowna full back line to pieces.

Gowna looked so sluggish and idea less, nothing but slow laboured ,lateral passing, Conor Madden was a mismatch for probably every member of that Kingscourt full back line, but they wouldn’t kick in the ball to him…

Kingscourt didn't get the memo. Saved their performance best for the final.

The 6 that were reported at the time. I was wrong about Cahill it was James Reilly, https://www.hoganstand.com/article/index/157687

Vinny Corey is very hot heated along the line. A lot of Gowna games this year he has been overly animated. I thought they would want a change of style from McCabe. Well done to Kingscourt.

Well done kingscourt thoroughly deserved today

    Fair play to Kingscourt.

    Well deserved.

Gowna were awful, they thought they-just had to turn up. Big money on Corey & all he has proved is he can bawl & shout.

Kingscourt should go on & bate Fermanagh.

I was never sure on that appointment. I didn't think he was overly impressive when he was at Monaghan and you can see how they kicked on this year with Gabriel Brannigan. I felt Gowna were set up so poorly today. I don't think that would happen under McCabe and Fintan Reilly.

Gowna seemed to be intent on punching Faulkner in the legs. Several times they swiped at him off the ground. He also took at least a couple of hits to the jaw on occasion. Power to the man though that he just battled on. A real warrior.

Joe Dillon was the perfect foil to Morris. Made excellent zig zag runs where he would move one way and then suddenly switch and the Kingscourt lads knew exactly how he was going to cut the run for the kick pass in.

It would be great to see Kingscourt give Ulster a rattle now. I believe they were 3-1 or 4-1 going into the final. I wouldn’t have taken that bet. I was expecting a Turkey shoot.

Fair play to Kingscourt, thoroughly deserved their win today, had some great performances by the experienced men in Faulkner and Dillon but thought younger player in Aaron Shackleton had a great game too and John McKeon when he came on. Gowna on other hand got their tactics all wrong, they played not to lose, consistently retaining and recycling possession and avoiding taking the ball into any contact, just didn't show any aggressiveness you usually associate with them in attack. Kicked what 10 wides in 2nd half too, very hard to win the game when you do that.

Unforunate for Barry Reilly to miss out but he has 2 medals from 2010 & 15. Colin Kelly was a very good appointment. They had a lot of different managers over the past few years, Eoin Lennon,Jody Devine , Finbar Reilly but didn't really work out.

Kingscourt made Gowna look poor and play poorly. Delighted for the stars.

Fair play to Kingscourt, well deserved win. I have heard that Faulkner will be gone travelling and will miss the Ulster game, pity that but I’m sure it’s the last thing on their minds now.

Big opportunity lost if Kingscourt don't put their best foot forward in Ulster this year.

A lot of the big hitters gone in Ulster.

Crosserlough and Gowna bound to be kicking themselves.

Fair play to Kingscourt though thoroughly deserving winners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭rrs

They don't play until November 9th so lots of time to prepare.

A Cavan club hasn't won a game in the competition since 2017. They cant really afford to take the Fermanagh champions for granted. Getting a win there would be big without faulkner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 South of the Bann

That is true but would be a pity if Faulkner is away for it.

Should be good enough to beat the Fermanagh champions as I think they are not as strong as previous years but could be wrong.

Errigal Ciaran gone in Tyrone and no guarantee Kilcoo win Down with the way they've been playing.

On the other side of the draw; Glen, Crossmaglen, Clann Eireann Cargin all gone over the weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭rrs

A lot of big teams gone. Kilcoo not as strong as previous. Glenties are some battlers. They were well behind in the Donegal final and won on penalties. Ciaran Thompson is out injured. Trillick will probaly be favs to win Tyrone final. They could do well in Ulster too.

Glenties have some battle in them.

That's the quarters semis and final they were losing coming into injury time if i'm not mistaken.

Did the same to Gowna 2 years ago too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭rrs

Yeah, never say die. Their manager Martin Regan is over them a good while. That was their 6th County title under his reign.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭ipitydafool

Yes some weekend for the underdogs, not just in Ulster, Corofin defeated and in Westmeath, St Lomans going for 3 in a row and in last 10 finals got beat at semi final stage. Whichever teams win Tyrone or Derry finals will be strong, Trillick will be favs in Tyrone alright and other semi gone to a replay so will be getting extra rest.

Wouldn't be surprised if Faulkner delays going away a bit longer for a run at Ulster club, he bleeds blue and white! Just heard Jordan Morris interview from after the game saying the injury to Odhran Cunningham was a massive changing moment for them in game and drove them on, looked a bad injury at the time.

Bookies rating Kingscourt highly at 8/1 for Ulster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭rrs

Been a good spread of winning teams in the last 10 years. Kingscourt, Ramor, Crosserlough, Gowna , Castlerahan each won 2 titles. Cavan Gaels with 1.

Scotstown and Kilcoo dominating in their counties isn't healthy. Kilcoo have won every final bar 1 since 2012.

Thought it would have been Melaniff as manager with Conroy as coach. Has Conroy managed any club? Been involved as a Coach at a few clubs.

Quite a strange appointment but Chris has worked with underage county teams and has previous experience coaching at underage level and Melaniff will be the sounding board I’d imagine.

Be a bit worried about Greene as S&C coach as he’s games development officer surely the CB can appoint a replacement for Aodghan Fox who’s departed for Leinster.

County board are trying to save money.

It’s very much an appointment of lads already on the pay roll alright. It’s also lads that are loyal to McCabe and know him well having worked with him for years.

Interestingly, Greene did S&C for both Conroy’s and McCabe’s clubs this year.

It’s the type of appointment I would have liked to have seen over a younger development squad than the “dads and lads” approach they have had.

McCabe still has to add a selector to the Senior set up. Will it be someone from the U20s?
