Gowna lost to a Fermanagh team in Enniskillen two or three years back didn’t they? I don’t think we’re in a position to call any draw “kind”. Most other counties are probably hoping to get Cavan.

The minor finals yesterday were a bit of a non event. Templeport never should have been in Division 3, truth be told they probably could have won Division 2 if they weren’t more worried about a cup than developing their players and had entered at the correct grading.

Fair play to Mullahoran going it alone but maybe we need to look at separate divisions for amalgamations like how second teams are put into one division together. I always find it ridiculous clubs amalgamating but then entering two teams in different divisions.

You either have enough players for a team or you don’t.

Never said it was kind but it's the kindest draw we could get.

Munchies demonstrating that exact point now. They're 16 points up.

Wow didn't see that scoreline coming. Up the Munchies.

Very good scoring. Down clubs dont have a good record at Junior but impressive scoring. Away to Armagh winners in quarter final. Emyvale would probaly be the favs for the competition. Karl Gallagher back from AFL.

It’s Senior where we need to make a mark. Not junior or intermediate.

New winners in Armagh and Tyrone at Senior. Outside of Scotsown, Kilcoo and Glenties the other teams wouldn't have much experience in Ulster.

Tough on Mullahoran. A very good young team, but a very small squad going it alone. had only 21 named and not much off the bench and little to come on when fellas went down with injury and cramp. Could have been a lot closer if they took that goal chance, but Gaels saw it off with more options from 2 clubs

Clubs are right to go it alone where they can. Amalgamations don’t work and they shouldn’t be allowed where they are not a necessity.

You can play right down to 11 a side at U16 or minor so I fail to see how so many amalgamations are allowed.

Move these amalgamations to their own division and let the proper clubs play for the Division 1 championship and you’ll suddenly see some of these join ups are not needed.

That's the teams that play in the Ulster Minor Club in December.

Four Masters ,Portglenone, Dromintee, Bredagh, Clontibret, Southern Gaels, Dungiven, Derrygonnelly and Ardboe

Southern Gaels the only amalgamation. Cavan has a lot more amalgamations underage then other Counties.

WAC said the CB are apparently blaming the lack of progression from development squads on coaches in the county now. While I think it may be part of the reason alright, it’s not like they have done much to appoint or even pursue the correct coaches.

Yearly each club gets a lazy email looking for coaches to be sent in and what happens is you get the coach from that age group that the club sent in who, more often than not, has a son and his friends to look after, as well as club biases to contend with.

You’ve also far too many idiots too interested in winning cups and not developing players at club level. The present system isn’t working. Why not make all underage games non competitive for a few years and see if that works?

It’d stop idiots standing along the line roaring abuse at both referees and sometimes even their own players. Unfortunately the new rules are not working re backchat to referees because a lot of the refs are too weak to enforce them.

Oh definitely so, just tough is all. That's 2 finals in 3 years now and no title which is tough, but hopefully will be the better of it long term

I don’t like to continue being negative but it goes back to the county board and youth board. They are getting the registration data every year so should know what players are coming through and be looking at drop off data.

One club even had their 13 a side dispensation removed last year because another club reported them for sending players to the stand and not being allowed sit on the bench - how are we even getting to this type of place?

Sad news from Australia yesterday that former Cavan player Ambie mc mullen died in a mining accident. I'm of a vintage that remembers him in the blue in the 80s

A good corner back in tough times for Cavan football they were tough men

    May he rest in peace

Sorry to hear that may he rest in peace, remember Ambie too from his days with Cavan, a whole hearted player who gave his all every time he played.

Confirmed in the Celt that Faulkner won't be around for the Ulster Club.

Erne Gaels looking to improve from last years showing

Erne Gaels Belleek attacker Ultan Kelm says the Fermanagh champions are keen to give a better account of themselves when they embark on the Ulster club SFC next month.

The Gaels made it back-to-back SFC titles in the Erne County last Saturday evening by defeating Derrygonnelly Harps at the second attempt on 1-12 to 1-9 scoreline at Brewster Park.

Kelm’s 1-3 contribution was crucial for the holders as they now look towards an away provincial quarter-final date against Cavan champions Kingscourt Stars the weekend after next.

“When we looked at the draw, we knew we could be facing the Cavan champions. It was a game we felt we could really improve on from the performance against Scotstown last year,” the Fermanagh told BelfastLive.co.uk.

“We weren't happy with that in any way. Scotstown are a seasoned team in the Ulster club championship and are full of established county performers.

“That that was probably a wake-up call for some of the boys that maybe haven't played at that level. Ulster club football is probably closer to inter-county level.

“The top teams come out of each of the provinces and counties.

“From our point of view, getting across the line (in Fermanagh) was the first part. Now, we have to give a better account of ourselves than we did last year and target that win in Ulster.”

The podcast mentioned established Cavan players not called by in the Gowna Development Manager. Anyone any ideas who these are?

Paddy Meade, Cian & Aaron Skeleton & Peter Corrigan called in by McCabe. Good to see some fresh blood!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭rrs

Corrigan has been very good for a long time. He would be around 29 now. Had he been asked in before and couldn't commit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 Breffniblue71

Corrigan has been a good player for Kingscourt but is calling someone into a senior panel for the first time at the age of 29 a bit late.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,549 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

I’d imagine some of these lads are being called in provisionally for McCabe to have a look. We’ll know the make up of the panel in November/December.

To be honest, the whole lot needs freshening up so if he’s 29 and could add something, I don’t see why not.

The McKenna Cup is back in janurary so a chance for new players to impress there.

I see Ger Brennan is having Regional trial games in Dublin. Ciaran Whelan, Coman Coggins are some of the people managing the teams. It works well for Meath.

The first sentence in your third paragraph is so true. Some coach's hunting personal glory at the expense of young players full of potential if managed in a way to develop them over a long time

Any word on who is going to be looking after the S&C or physical training of our county senior team?
