Are supporters not entitled to hear his views on matches and the job?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,832 ✭✭✭celt262

Yep but it looks like it won't be via the celt or wearecavan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,391 ✭✭✭baconsarnie

I will stand corrected, but McCabe has had zero interaction with the Celt whether in his paid or non-paid roles. He's been a well paid employee for Cavan for a long time and to be honest, he's hardly been under the microscope in local media. I found it hilarious that in his "non-paid" volunteer role for Westmeath he regularly talked to their local press, yet for a role he is paid for he not only not talks to local media, to my knowledge he doesn't even deem it necessary to give the odd word or two to the Celt.

If he has animous to the Celt, I would love for him to go on record to state what his beef is. Dosn't sit well with me that the county manager feels he is above getting his message out to fans. Bad start, but compltely unsurprising.

The beef is probaly related to taking the Westmeath job while employed by Cavan co board. Paul Fitz and Donahoe would have discussed it on the podcast.

Hasn't even pulled the bib on and he’s Henry VIII doling out media rights and reinventing the job 🙄

Again, I will stand corrected but McCabe made a big deal of not talking to "the media" when Gowna manager and Fintan Reilly did all that. Even when he was minor manager he never spoke to the Celt.

Pretty sure that way back on WAC that Paul Fitz saying he's never spoken to McCabe but that McCabe had made it known that he didn't rate him.

I'm sure the Celt and WAC merely questioning the "report" delivered on youth development last year to clubs didn't cheer him up either :)

If someone had any backbone, part of the terms and conditions of his contract would have been minimal engagement with local media. Great start to win them over already :)

Most interviews now are just pre rehearsed tidbits and general bullsh!t but a manager should be fulfilling media duty.

The fact is we’ve as close to a dictator as we’ll get in charge now. He won’t be questioned by those around him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭rrs

Its a strange enough dynamic. Fintan Reilly is a cousin of Paul Fitz so would be the middle man for media probaly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 513 ✭✭✭mylestheslasher

Yeh I do. He isn't a volunteer, he is paid by Cavan GAA and in turn by Cavan people like me. I want to hear what is going on in the county set-up. The man need someone to clip his wings and tell him what his role involves, and that includes talking to local media. Is there anyone in the county board with a pair of balls?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,832 ✭✭✭celt262

Maybe the two lads will kiss his feet or something to make it up to him.

I'd say they wouldn't go near him anyway they are the same as the rest afraid off him.

The last few years the Cavan senior management have had a big back room set up to no great success. An all star goalkeeper as manager and yet no discernible kick out plan in the Ulster Championship against Tyrone. A forwards coach from Tyrone and yet again the Cavan team’s attack against Tyrone was far from effective. A committed bunch under a very driven manager and I wouldn’t care too much about the manager’s media engagement or the size of the backroom team if the team show more fight and bring some good days to supporters.

Different circumstances but Tyrone boycotted RTE for a good while under Mickey Harte. The players werent allowed to talk either. Too much media can sound repititive with the same cliches thrown out. But McCabe could still give a few words.

With all this rain it will be interesting to see will the Minor finals be played in Breffni this weekend or moved to a club ground.

    Junior surely in doubt aswell.

Minor finals moved to the 19th. That’s very hard on young lads. Big build up to this weekend and then told go train for another two weeks. School football has started too so there’s an increased risk of injury.

Who have Gowna that is minor on their senior team?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭rrs

Odhran Madden would be part of the Senior panel. Maybe somone else. Jake Brady is a good prospect. County Minor again next year. County Minor should really go back to u18 and let them play in croke park.

Kingscourt in a Division 3 championship final too that has been pushed back but I don't know if they had anyone on senior panel. Fiachra Brady on Southern Gaels minor team and Gowna senior panel, started some championship games earlier on in summer.

Tough for the Minors but the Junior final on a Sunday looks better then 6 on a Saturday. There should be more of a crowd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,549 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

I’d prefer to watch the Division 1 Minor Final than the junior final to be honest. Mullahoran and Southern Gaels minors are two good teams. It should be of a high standard.

It should be. There is a few Minor players involved in Junior final so will be decent standard too.

I was talking to a man during the week coached Munterconnaught over 15 years ago. He said they’ve still five players starting from then and that their average age is 28.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭rrs

Very poor fare so far in Junior. Both teams havent won Junior in a long time. Maybe nerves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,549 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Desperate stuff. It took 31 minutes of play for there to be more scores than yellow cards. I did envisage this unfortunately. If you were there for the next game, you’d much prefer to have had the minors on.

Very enjoyable intermediate final. Adam O Reilly, Doughty brothers, Niall Magee were very impressive. Butletsbridge had a poor start but came back well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,549 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Tobin was good again. He’s probably the one you’d expect to get a call into the county setup.

The Bridge came back but Cucus were composed and pulled away again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭rrs

Forgot to mention Tobin. 3 or 4 pts and some good turnovers. He has good size and power to go into a County Senior panel.

A big addition in his first year with cucus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 South of the Bann

Two former Maghera players in Adam OReilly and Tobin shining for Cucus; big losses for a struggling club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,509 ✭✭✭rrs

It is,. Maghera played in the Junior shield this year. Tobin probaly had to move to improve ,which is unforunate for Maghera.

The junior and intermediate cups go to the east side of the county where the demographic shift is. Munterconnaught have three county minors coming in now too so you’d have to hope they’ll push on.

Cuchulainns look like they are more than ready for senior. I’d certainly expect them to have little trouble with the lower end teams like Laragh & Castlerahan.
