This is the latest response from electric ireland who installed mine:

    Q) What are my options now?

    A)

    •  ‘Plug and Play’ Charger: You can continue to use your EO charger as a ‘plug and play’ or ‘dumb’ charger. While the EO will not have network connectivity or additional features like scheduled charging, it can provide a straightforward charging function when plugged into an EV.
    • Vehicle's Charging App: Many modern electric vehicles come equipped with their own mobile apps that allow you to control and monitor charging sessions. Please refer to your vehicle's user manual or contact your vehicle manufacturer for more information on how to utilise these features.
    • Alternate Charging Solutions: Since you already have a home charger, your home is wired for a charger, which could make it cost-effective to replace the EO Charger. Please note that if you have previously claimed an SEAI grant, you are not eligible to claim it again. For more information on SEAI grants, visit seai.ie. For EV home charging options, visit Electric Vehicle (EV) Chargers for your Home | Electric Ireland
    • If you have a specific issue with the EO charger, you can contact Crystal Electronics: EO’s hardware support partner in Ireland. They can assist with repairs or servicing on a paid basis.

You should be entitled to at least a portion of your money back from EI if they sold you a product that no longer functions as per the contract you made with them when buying the product

I suggest you make a claim directly with them for this purpose and if not go to small claims court for the value of this charger (not the installation)

I’ve a case opened for this. EO are playing games but have made an offer subject to all kinds of clauses that I won’t agree too.

It’s a pain to have to fight for consumer rights like this. I’ll follow up with news when available. Let’s know how you get on too.

I got my eo charger mini pro 2 about 3 years ago , I have had to use it as a plug and play for the last year after it failed to connect to the device and the QR code registration stopped working. I contacted Eo charging and although I had all the registration details and it was a pretty easy request (I thought) They kept closing my tickets and I never got to speak to anyone except the people logging the ticket. Energia who I got it from also contacted Eo and did t get a response so said they couldn’t do anything else.
so what support did they provide anyway!! I will never buy another one from them.

I got an email from EO this morning and have sent them my invoice, lets see how they respond.

We have been asked by the EO Legal Team to ask you for a proof of purchase for your original charger. Please could you email a copy so we can pass this information onto the EO Legal Team?Kind Regards,EV Technical Support CoordinatorTel: 0333 7720 383 Option 2 then option 2 AgainEmail: Support@eocharging.com

just got an email from EO to register with ev.energy for access to smart charging features with my EO mini pro 3. It says my charge point has been transitioned to them. Seems there’s an en.energy app to download and install

Its almost 2 years ago since I got mine installed by Fokearn. Would I have any rights to make a claim now or is it just though sh-it?

Could I make a claim against EO or would it have to be against Fokearn?

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

As above small claims court for Fokearn. However you would need proof you contacted them for a solution and attempted everything reasonable for it to be resolved. They might just fit a new or used unit if you hassle them enough. I suggest emailing them for proof then follow up with friendly phone call saying you will submit small claims court today if they do not resolve.

I got mine free with my car back in 2022. I have no receipt, and technically I'm not losing any money, but I won't qualify for the install grant again. :/

I do yes just not one that plugs into the EO Mini on the side of my house. It was still cheaper to get one back then than it would be now and so future proofing the house or so I thought.

still working for me too..Fokearn my installer ( Feb 2024) initially said they were

quote "At this stage, we are focused on securing the best possible outcome, and we will keep you updated as soon as there are any developments. Please rest assured we’ll have a resolution in the coming weeks"

However I haven't been able to make contact last couple weeks. Anybody pursue this further ?

I got the same response then I think Fokearn sent my query to EO Charging who replied:

EO Support has passed along your inquiry to Legal. However, our records indicate that you did not purchase the Mini Pro 2 from EO Charging. Your complaint should be addressed by the seller. We cannot assume responsibility for complaints where we are not the seller. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, your statutory rights and remedies are enforceable against the seller, not the manufacturer. Accordingly, any claim under the Act should be directed to the seller in the first instance.

I've bounced this back to Fokearn and now await their response….. So far the charger is still working 🤞

Sounds like EO are getting push back from installers and are holding off for now. As someone who would have considered one because of their size, I can honestly say that I wouldn’t touch one now unless it was used and I only wanted a dumb charger.

I got below update from Fokearn this morning.:

This is an update with regards to the planned cessation of service for the EO mini pro 2 app on the 30th of November. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused thus far but want to reassure all current customers still within warranty that the team here at Fokearn Energy are investigating the most suitable resolution to maintain full functionality of the charge point for our customers.

Unfortunately, it has become clear that the manufacturer is not willing to offer any suitable resolution for existing owners stating they cannot “assume responsibility”. Rest assured though, that here at Fokearn Energy customer service is paramount as reflected in our standing within the EV community throughout Ireland, and as such we will provide a solution to this problem to our valued customers. We will be in contact in due course to all affected customers to provide this.

    Thanks for sharing..

Wonder if they might make whatever their solution is available to people that didn't purchase the charger from them.

I'd happily pay a reasonable amount if it meant I could retain some degree of smart functionality.

I got the same as well. What is the warranty period I wonder? I'm sure I have it in a document somewhere.

my charger (mini 2) stopped working, after alot of back and forth they sent a mini 3 but wont pay for install, it is the installer you buy from so EO saying up to them to replace. Install is only covered by EO up to year 1. they make it up as they go it seems.

alot of installers have moved from EO so hard to get someone to do it.

It’s pretty easy to replace these if you’re in any way competent with electrical work. If you can replace a socked, you can replace an EVSE. Still shocking service though.

Just beware waterproofing/glands are very important and correct torque for connections. I am shocked at many DIY jobs and some people are shocked literally too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,185 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

I think it's a good idea to check after a couple of months, because even when correctly torqued, the connections can get loose over time. Especially with lower quality units. Plenty of professional installations are dog shìt, so it's not restricted to DIY.
