Chat GPT is telling me to select the EO2 option. Looks like you need to connect to the chargers hot spot and change the server it points to.

Not sure if I should undo all my saved charging times in case it messes it up and I can't do it later.

    here is what GPT said

    Why that’s the correct choice

    • The other menu options “EO Charging” → Genius / Mini Pro 3 are designed specifically for newer EO models:
    • The “EO2 – default AC type 2” is the fallback, generic option for basic EO chargers that use a single-phase Type‑2 connection—just like the EO Mini 2.

In short: you don’t have a Pro 3 or Genius unit, so the generic EO2 (AC Type‑2) is the correct profile to match your Mini 2.

    🔧 Setup Tips

    Once selected:

    1. Install Monta on the Mini 2:
      • Connect to the unit’s hotspot, go to 10.10.10.1, log in, and point the CSMS/OCPP URL to Monta: wss://ocpp.monta.app:443 (use default charger ID or serial) Monta.
    2. Connect to Wi‑Fi (or Ethernet) so Monta can manage it remotely.
    3. Add charger in Monta using the serial number in the app.
    4. After pairing, the app will let you monitor, schedule, and control charging via Monta—even with the generic AC Type‑2 setting.

I've no solar which I guess is where the smart features come in very handy but as dual EV house I prefer the cars doing the scheduling and work its all just day rate charge straight away when plugged in.

Hope ye guys affected get satisfaction and dont lose functionality or have to buy a new one.

I'd bought a Tesla wall charger to swap this out. But I opened up my old rolec this weekend and found it is limited to 16amp (3.5kw) so I'll actually have to end up leaving the EO and swap the rolec.

I can't seem to connect to the EO hotspot though, no idea what the password is.

    from the monta website

The password to this hotspot will be the numeric portion of the hotspot name.

got 1st response back from EI, stating its nothing got to do with them. wrote back advising of their responsibilities under the consumer rights Act 2022, and asking to confirm they understand their obligations under same.

Saw the same but the password it needs is 8 characters and my hot spot numbers are only 5.

Thanks will try that password once I get home.

I stupidly turned off my schedules yesterday while trying to set up Mondts just in case I locked myself out. Totally forgot I did it and later that evening I plugged the wife's car in. Cost me a tenner. Less than delighted with EO today 😀

Is there any legal precedent for this? I understand that the goods must be fit for purpose, and the seller is responsible for ensuring that.

But if fitness for purpose relies on a third party (in this case the manufacturer) providing a continual service for it to work. Then can you claim under consumer law? The seller has zero control over a service the manufacturer provides. It was fit for purpose at the point of sale.

Contrasted, for example, with a poorly designed product which breaks after a couple years due to poor construction. Where there's an argument that the product was faulty, when it was sold to you, even if it took a few years for this to become apparent.

There must be countless other examples of this sort of thing. Particularly now given how many smart devices are being sold which rely on apps and servers to continue working. Have people had any success in making a claim? I'm very curious. And it seems like this is an area of consumer law that needs revision to ensure devices must have support for a period of time.

I think there are quite a few examples in the Cloud Software space that would be somewhat similar to this.

There have been several game where the Vender has decided to shutdown the online servers either rendering the game completely useless or with extremely limited functionality despite people having bought and paid for the game.

I don't know that any of those situations have resulted in any kind of compensation for impacted users.

I've read recently about a number of smart home device vendors that are shutting off back-end support for devices again turning the devices from smart to dumb overnight.

Agree completely that it's an example (or quite a few) where consumer laws are not keeping pace with technology and technology obsolescence.

Can someone test this solution and maybe ask the owner about stability? It might be good to sell pre flashed SD cards on say adverts.ie for users to pop in to restore some functionality. The initial versions may not be stable so need lots of testing. Load sensing is very important and safety relevant so that part would need to set correctly which introduces some risk of overloads.

I contacted EO directly and they gave me the password for my unit , mine is a 12 character alpha numeric.

I asked if that was a std default password but they said that each unit has a unique password so you'll have to ping them via their online chat with the serial number of your unit.

I have been able to connect to the hot-spot , but haven't followed the steps for the Monta app just yet

Another Fokearn install in Jan 2024 here - what a pain in the hole. Anyone heard anything else from Forkearn after the above updates? Will contact them myself now as well.

Contacted them aswell and they gave it to me after a little back and forth, as you said it's a unique code so goelectric won't work. They told me it won't work with the new app but let's see.

My take is that the Regulation that impacted this is in force since June 2022. Therefore, if we were sold a product after this date that doesn't do what it was advertised to do any more then surely we have a case?

Here's what Fokearn are responding with currently:

Thank you for your email.Like our customers, we were only made aware of EO's decision. We understand the concern this may have caused and want to assure you that we are actively working with both EO and our supplier to ensure the continuity of service. At this stage, we are focused on securing the best possible outcome, and we will keep you updated as soon as there are any developments. Please rest assured we’ll have a resolution in the coming weeks.Thank you for your patience and understanding at this stage.

maybe wasnt posted before but EO confirmed it to me and if you try the app its the 3 thats the option there.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 17,289 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

There is an option for "EO" in their list which I thought allowed you to set up the mini 2 ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,575 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

EO have said the mini 2 doesnt support OCCP (or something like that ) so monta isnt compatible.

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 17,289 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

OCPP - Open Charge Point Protocol .

Had to look it up , apparently the lack of said support for the Mini Pro 2 is part of why it's being discontinued.

I'm this boat as well. Have average prices for an install dropped since the grant dropped from €600 to €300?

The price of almost everything increases by the price of a grant.
