I bought an EO Mini Pro 2 specifically because I wanted a neat discrete charger and didn't see the need for a screen so I'm furious that they're disabling smart features in November due to regulations changing in the UK😡

    Dear xxx,
We’re getting in touch to let you know about some important updates regarding your EO Mini Pro 2, EO Smart Home app and related support services. The introduction of the UK Smart Charge Point Regulations in June 2022 means that the EO Mini Pro 2 no longer meets the necessary smart functionality requirements for sale or replacement in Great Britain (where the regulations apply).
As a result, it is no longer possible for EO to continue servicing users with the EO Mini Pro 2, and we have made the decision to discontinue this product (including the EO Smart Home app) globally.
Please see below for details on these upcoming changes and what they mean for you.
EO Mini Pro 2 & EO Smart Home App end of life
From 30th November 2025, the Mini Pro 2’s smart functionality (utilising the EO Smart Home App) will be disabled. After this date, your EO Mini Pro 2 will function only as a "plug & play" charger, and you will no longer be able to access or manage it through the EO Smart Home app. All devices will also be automatically unlocked to prevent them being locked permanently.
Due to the EO Mini Pro 2 no longer meeting the necessary smart functionality requirements for sale or replacement in Great Britain, we will no longer be able to provide repair services, replacement parts or software updates for EO Mini Pro 2 devices.
    Customer Support

    • For Mini Pro 2 units outside of warranty, our trusted partner, Crystal, will be providing continued hardware support in the UK and Ireland on a paid basis. This will help make sure that your charger remains functional and supported as needed.
    • For Mini Pro 2 customers with a valid warranty, your device will continue to be supported up to 30th November 2025. If you believe that your warranty will be valid beyond this date, we ask that you get in touch with our online support team at www.eocharging.com/support no later than Tuesday 5th August 2025. Our team will ask you to provide proof of purchase, your device’s serial number, and evidence of installation by a certified installer.

What if I am based outside Great Britain?
While the UK Smart Charging Regulations only apply to those who reside in mainland Great Britain, we have made the decision to discontinue the product and associated services globally.  If you believe that your warranty will be valid beyond 30th November 2025, please get in touch with our online support team at www.eocharging.com/support no later than Tuesday 5th August 2025. Our team will ask you to provide proof of purchase, your device’s serial number, and evidence of installation by a certified installer.

Anybody know the warranty period I must dig my documentation up ? I brought/installed mine with Fokearn, its installed a year now - Surely this isn't acceptable - Any comeback ?

Google told me 3 years. Wonder if they will replace if within warranty?

Wow. I would be furious. They should be sued to hell for this.

Good old planned obsolescence strikes again

No mention of providing a server runtime or containers so you could just host your own server

Or just open source the lot, it isn't like there's much there worth stealing anyway

I see someone over on Reddit is looking to try and build something, apparently it is a raspberry pi inside the device

Got the email there now. Don't see how they can just cut support like that because of some UK guidelines. Chargers are sold, supplied and fit in Ireland. As far as I'm concerned whatever shite the UK are doing shouldn't impact me.

So we'll need to use the cars timers now? The charger will always be "on" I guess.

What kind of issues? Stealing electricity is about the biggest issue and frankly anyone parking their EV in random driveways looking for a charge for several hours is probably going to be in jail soon

There'll be some clause in the terms and conditions which basically says they can roll back the service at any time that suits them

Same stuff is what allows game developers to shut down online servers and render games people bought unplayable

Or streaming services to stop providing content you specifically paid for

I'd recommend checking out the campaign below. It gaming focused but if the petition gets enough momentum then it's possible any consumer protection could be extended to other online services

Can't you just setup scheduled charging in your car? I've had an EO Mini Pro 2 installed for the last three years and I've never needed to use the smart features / EO app…but maybe it has some extra features that I'm not aware of.

That's OK for people who bought the device and had no intention to use any smart features. I have a Hypervolt 2. I got it because it ticked the boxes of everything I needed and most of what I wanted. I paid a premium for the features, so I didn't have to use in-car timers. I can manage the charge speed and times on the APP in seconds. I can let some of the solar energy go to the car if the battery is low and I need a topup without using the grid. If Hypervolt pulled their service like EO are, I would be fuming. It's a big FU to everyone and I hope nobody buys their stuff going forward.

Have you hard back from Fokeran? i am in the same postion as you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,865 ✭✭✭maddness

Same for me. I phoned them yesterday and the girl who answered didn’t really know anything about it. Took my number and said she will call me back. To be fair to Fokeran, I had an issue with a damaged charger (my fault) and they dealt with it very well so I’m hoping for a similar outcome here.

Companies frequently do this, there is no way of getting over it, I've dumped a perfectly working golf GPS as the company put it legacy and withdrew support as they concentrated on the newer generation. They are tanking now as once bitten…..

EO will likely not be valid for grant support also which will bring their sales to zero, better off with a 32a commando plug and let the car do everything….all you need is the appropriate cabling back to CU and get leccy to hook up, a 5 minute job max if you terminate at plug and tack all the cabling

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

I got the same email. I'd been using the chargers schedule for EV night rate, I don't like to use the car. I keep forgetting about it and when I need a charge it sits there. For example when I go to work and can charge there.

I've been thinking about changing it to something that works with solar like a zappi (if it wasn't so ugly).

They have a new version out now called Zappi Glo, might be more to your liking!

Realistically EO should be compensating you, either with a replacement to their newer model or a full refund so you can go and buy a Zappi or something that will work

Theres a company called EVBOX going bust and pulling support too...we have one in work. Theyre Dutch i believe.

Amazon and Google are generally fairly good at giving refunds when services are pulled. There needs to be better consumer protection. If someone bought a charger on the credit card they could probably get a refund through a chargeback

I'm exactly the same - Have it set to only run during night rate hours and the car is set to "instant" so when I'm in work , it starts right away and when I come home I plug the car in and it doesn't start until midnight…

I've just looked on their website for their more detailed info - From here

    It says this

Last date of availability:As of 30 November 2025, EO Charging will not be able to provide repairs or replacement for existing installs of the EO Mini Pro 2 product. After this date installed EO Mini Pro 2 chargers will operate as "plug and play"chargers.

The EO Mini Pro 2 will continue to load manage (if you have this setup) to protect the electrical supply or charge according to a preset schedule.

I don't understand what this means in practice though..

Does this mean that if you have it set to a certain schedule on November 30th , it will lock to it's last set of settings for good?

So it'll run to the schedule , but you won't have a way to "manually" start it outside that sequence?

Because that would be terrible but if I can set the schedule and still manually start it , I'm not sure what "smart" features I'd actually be losing..

I've two chargers on the house one original dumb one and this was supposed to be the smart one.

My main issue is the dumb ones just drain my solar battery. I'll have 10kw in storage to run the house through peak and the evening and if I plug in a car it will suck it all out in 90 mins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,250 ✭✭✭zg3409

It will become unlocked, always on, always supplying a charge immediately from.the cutoff date. Load management is a safety thing to prevent overall house overloading, it has no impact to the timer being set to always on.

I wonder could you make a claim in small claims court against the installer as product will no longer work as sold? Nothing against the installer but it's consumer rights.

I believe many EV charger companies are having financial issues so they may not be the last.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,344 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

EV charger company that installed mine have, like lots of other similar companies, gone bust about a year or two after installation.

I think I'll just get a zappi. Maybe since all the cables are done they might do it a bit cheaper.

That's what I thought initially, but it also says that it will "charge according to a preset schedule" .

That's the bit that has me slightly confused. If I can set/change a schedule then I have everything I need (don't have solar etc.).

But if a schedule gets locked in after November that's crap.

I sent them an email asking all my questions. I'll share any response I get.

My installer was ESB Networks, so I might call them and see if they are aware that products they sold/installed are being crippled in this way to see what they have to say.
