Correct me if I am wrong regarding the 85. But I think the current proposed routing is through Dame St and turning onto CG. However assuming it is launched with its CG Plaza routing it will follow the same routing as the F-Spine, using Kevin Street Upper and SSG to get to CG.

The 15 will be replaced by the A1, but the A1 will not be 24 hours?

This would be a downgrade of service.

I could be wrong, apologies if I am.

So far as I can tell the A1 is not to be 24 hours, even though it is replacing the busiest bus route in the network.

I thought it would be also but any timetable i could find for BC shows it not being 24 hours. Hopefully I am wrong.

The frequency tables on the BusConnects website don't show which routes are 24/7. We have only found out which routes are 24/7 as each phase is rolled out.

The 85 and every A-spine bus should get to CG(likely with a stop on Westmoreland St) which would only be a short walk away from most of Dame Street.

While the current proposed routing for both show them using Dame St, by the time they are launched it will more than likely use a routing that avoids so CG Plaza can open.

However if your final destination is west of George's St you should be able to change to a 71 or 72 on Kevin St Upper (easiest interchange but less frequent, at 4bph). Otherwise the 23, 24, and 80 would all be an option as well with a combined frequency of 12bph with an interchange on Aungier or Camden St.

3 new 24/7 buses, much better than Phase 5b…

Good to see the 80 will be 24 hours after all, will provide some extra capacity on the Lucan & Rathmines corridors

For the most part I can wrap my head around everything here, except for a few things.

The D-spine is missing the D5 and includes a new route the 78. Why would that be the case? Otherwise everything else I believe lines up with the 57/58 changes or service changes over the previous years? No L56 and introducing the 57 and 97, as well as not introducing the X56 and L91 since the 68x and 53a were axed.

The A-spine then I am not sure why the X76 and X77 are not being launched, particularly the later as the 33x would be axed while at least the 142 isn't listed as being cancelled. Additionally I am unsure about the 196, is that referring to the LL route? If so why would that be cancelled?

    Hmm..

Sorry, I'm not convinced. It makes no sense. It's a GAI route now so I wouldn't trust an internal DB document on it much.

Besides, the existing route details on it are all wrong for DB's own routes. It says the peak frequency of the 140 at the moment is 20 mins, 15-20 mins for the 40, 20 mins for the 40b, 20 mins for the 83a. Both the frequency and the destinations are wrong for the 54a.

I think it was a copy&paste job of a similar document for 6A

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭TonyK45

This is the Sunday frequency. Mon-Fri 15 every 15 mins (every 10 mins during peak hours)

Hope so, we can only wait and see

Will chapleizod retain the c5 and c6 when the 24hr 80 is introduced?

RTÉ News were at the Dublin Bus depot in Ringsend earlier today about Dublin Bus recruiting mechanics to maintain their newer bus fleet. Dublin Bus had said to RTÉ that if they struggle to recruit more mechanics in future; that will start to have an impact on their services.

Obviously BusConnects wasn't mentioned anywhere in the report by Brian O'Donovan today. But the CEO of Dublin Bus Billy Hann said they need more mechanics to maintain the newer electrics buses that are going to come into their depots in the near future. He also said more drivers will be needed to operate the newer routes to cater for more passengers who will use their services.

Dublin Bus have said to RTÉ they are struggling to recruit full time mechanics in Ireland. They have no choice but to recruit them internationally at the moment. Billy Hann said that 40 Filipino mechanics have been employed last year. He said Dublin Bus were looking another 20 of them for this year.

Dublin Bus & Bus Eireann are also going to be at the Workskills event in the RDS this Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. I not sure if Go-Ahead Ireland is going to have their own recruitment stand in the RDS as well. Are Go-Ahead experiencing a similar challenge in recruiting mechanics as well as Dublin Bus or Bus Eireann?

GAI blamed their shoddy service levels on the S6 & S8 on not having enough mechanics a few months ago so I would assume so. I've been on 2 GAI buses that have broken down in the last few months (once on the 114 and again on S8) and their buses in general don't seem as well maintained as DB's. Was on an auld ex DB SG the other day on the W2 that was rattling like a washing machine spin cycle whenever it pulled up at stops or lights.

I was on a GAI streetlite the other day for the first time and it actually wasn't as bad I'd heard about them. The emergency door was rattling like two skeletons riding but the rest of it was was solid enough.

It is a bit frustrating for Finglas area that the F1 and F2 are the 24 hour routes. They overlap a fair bit along Finglas Road and then again up to towards Charlestown. The F3 is the more unique route and goes through Finglas Village and up McKee avenue. It also goes along Mellows Road, so would still have served a decent number of people living near there too.

Even along the south side, the F1 and F2 cover areas nearby and the F3 is further out

To be honest I’m surprised they didn’t go for an overnight F4 on the northside which would have covered the F2 and F3 in Finglas north, west and south.

As far as the southern half of the F3 is concerned, remember that the D-Spine will provide 24 hour coverage to the Walkinstown area from some time in 2026.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,290 ✭✭✭Daith

That's good for the southside users. The F3 northside does remain a bit of a mystery. I get the anti-social behaviour, and to be honest I think Dublin Bus should be explicit about that if it was a feature, but I feel there's a missed opportunity here to provide a better service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,149 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

I doubt that you would ever get an explicit admission such as that - organisations don’t issue negative statements like that.

In any case, routings are the purview of the NTA, not Dublin Bus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭DaBluBoi

Looks like the 80 is confirmed to be a 24 hour route. I wonder if there'll be any modifications to the C5 and C6 which currently serve Chapelizod. Perhaps they'll get rid of C6 and make the C4 route 24 hours?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,149 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

No mention of it on that page, so I’d think not.

From what I’ve heard the 80 is needed to add supplementary capacity to the existing services either side of the city centre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,631 ✭✭✭p_haugh

Indeed, the 80 will give a bit of relief for the 15 from CC→Rathmines and for the C/G-spine from CC→Liffey Valley.

Also, I see that the F1 is getting the same treatment as the E1, with short working variations baked into the one timetable. Again, these should really get their own designation to avoid confusion.
